A what Thom? I couldn't find that.
Dai10, the Helepolis is found here: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Helepolis
It's a cool looking mech mounting the Sniper Artillery Piece, my one dropping some of the weapons load for more speed, as dictated above. Very dependent on secure resupply lines, as it only carries 20 rounds for the Sniper, and a 120 missiles for the LRM5. 2 medium lasers aren't much for backup!
If only the sniper took one less slot or I had access to light engines or clan spec XLs...
I must say I'm a bit worried about your char though. That background is very...well, you said it yourself, it's straight out over the top. I don't mean to cause any offence by commenting on this, just some friendly criticism from a fellow RPer. You're related to the Dragon and a previous Archon by blood, who was the uncle of the current Archon, and you're on speaking terms with current leading figures from the FedSuns...nevermind the elite background and the shenanigans of your escape. You're really going to have to go the extra mile with your RPing to not completely eclipse the rest of us, justify your elite background, and explain why you've left the Skye Rangers (A Lyran unit, so not sure how the Davies put you there?) to join a decidedly low tier selection of mercs and borderline pirates.
I look forward to it :)

i already got this covered though not explained. towards the end of my bio i was pointing out that the combine keeps trying to kill me. what are the odds that i leave the unit for a while to get away from a particularly deadly set of assasins? provided that i stay a warrior i would also be forced to go freelance for cash or at least join a unknown merc unit. the only reason i got to talk to the leaders was some data from combine high command computers. my character does have one massive weakness. he gets extremely paranoid and jumpy if he can not keep track of his surroundings well (aka a crowd or a heavy thunderstorm or a dark and loud room.) so the windstorms on tombstone would play hell with him. on top of that i have an easy mechanism to weaken him. one of the assassination attempts could come extremely close to working and result in a head injury. i could go a number of ways from there. as for the background he is extremely minor nobility. one of his grandmothers was related to the archon by being an illegitimate child of a former archon by a maid who ends up marrying a mid-ranking samurai. not that big of a deal. i pretty much only did that for the blood ties to the commonwealth. as for the davies assigning me to a lyran unit, both are part of fedcom... hopefully that answers some of your points.

edit plus i would point out my character was never that great with fire-arms. or had training in a lot of random stuff such as demo, stealth (he is decent in this but his size makes it difficult for him to blend) he is a good hacker though. he can't do repairs well. so pretty much he has this going for him, hand to hand and melee weapon combat, mech combat, hacking and sheer strength. weakness, lack of firearm training, bad with shaped charges, can't lockpick, can't really sneak, gets significantly worse at anything requiring concentration in loud areas. that a bit better?

In every rulebased RP I've ever played, excessive paranoia has always been a perk you could take xD Usually in the form of higher perception or better combat initiative.
As for the head injury...very hard to play that straight and true. I tried it once, but eventually gave up and swapped characters. The writing tends to end up going in fits and bursts of when the head injury is playing up and when it isn't. Especially with your high level martial background, because you'll want to be playing to that and the head injury, which are pretty much mutually exclusive goals.
The FedCom actually had a very hard time mixing their militaries, in part due to long standing grudges and the like from a history or war, and in part due to the sheer difference in combat styles. The LCAF and AFFS never integrated, choosing to remain as two seperate forces, in a similar way to the Army, Air Force and Navy in a conventional army. They work together to support each other, but they don't share the same personnel or equipment if you get me. You'd probably find it much easier to swap out the Skye Rangers for a Davion unit, unless there's some particular reason you want the Skye Rangers?
For blood ties to the Lyrans, would have been easy enough just to have family from there without the nobility tie?
Be advised, the Quartet will not respond kindly to any assassins trying to take them on for associating with you - Dirk would have no problems backing off and pointing them in your direction.
And he's the nice one of the unit :)
Some of the others might even be willing to help your assassins just for getting them involved.../plot hook.

cause i originally wrote the background for the skye rangers. i am part of that unit in mwo. i just copy and pasted the background. as for associating with me they don't care. unless you specifically make a habit of killing the assassins they would ignore you as you are not their target. at best they would just follow you to find me, at worst they might threaten for info. and i would play the head injury as memory loss. i would pretty much be sticking to basic fighting since i wouldn't remember all the more high level tricks and maybe drunken fist for fun, since that is pure reflexes. and i don't mean the constantly looking for threats, i mean the nervous and jumpy seeing assassins in every shadow kinda paranoia. aka don't sneak up on me in that mode i may try to cut your head off before i figure out who it is. at that point it is not an asset, it is a liability. also i am kinda wearing the cloak to make it harder to identify me. as for sending assassins after me as long as they are not snipers i really don't care about that. snipers would be bad...

Uhhhh...traditionally, I don't like to play with people whose character flaw is 'I may kill your character' xD
It's always seemed somewhat risky :)
Also, the assassin's actions would depend on what the GM decides to throw at us. If one of us happens to be in a room and sees them going by...
Also, wouldn't a cloak make you easier to find? "Hey look, what's that freak doing with a cloak?" "Wait, isn't that our target?" "What? Oh, sh*t, yeah!"

which is more obvious blonde hair, blue japanese eyes on a 6 foot+ frame or a cloak? and it is simple to avoid my character flaw. if i don't have the cloak on don't poke me in the back unless i am expecting it. the cloak gets in the way of pulling my sword out so i will try to create distance first. plus the cloak seems appropriate for an extremely windy planet. make sense? a tap on the shoulder or saying high before you were right behind me. an assassin trying to kill me would most likely just stab or poke a gun barrel on my back then fire. so that specific action would be the most likely to get a reaction.

I think my character looks freakier but meh.

As for the "I might kill you" thing, that is a tad risky for sure. Not my call though. I'll do my thing, yall do yours.

Second to last member of the "Quartet" writing up a bio asap.

Only Sparks Murphy to go. :D

-------------

Also, please for the love of god, not another run of assassins.

Can we not start one RP without there being some completely insane **** going down right off the bat?

Realistically, there is no way in hell a small group of rag tag mercs has a chance against one of the Great Houses...

A cloak is definitely easier to spot. Since you'd still be 6 foot tall and have the same eyes poking out from underneath the hood. Also, I thought you specifically had european features?
Dirk is a bumbling ***** - that's how I've set him up. So my IC options due to my OOC knowledge are reduced to 'never be alone with this guy'. Or my character will be dead before I godmode over your reactions.
Also, where are you getting the windy planet? Xin never mentioned where we were, just that it's a small periphery world.
This is degenerating into an argument, so I'm going to bail off the topic. Just try not to Mary Sue all over us :D
And you know, don't kill me...that would sort of suck. A lot.

EDIT: Vodka, the Quartet could take them. All of them. In one go. In a straight fight. Or so Dirk happilly hallucinates to himself as he sucks down moonshine in Messer's cockpit late at night, stroking the FCS for the sniper...

Iactually he did in the other thread. The "Honor among thieves" thread states where we are. This is just the signup thread.

Somehow that does not reassure me.

Special Note: Dal10 is proficient with most handheld weapons. He is also extremely proficient in the art of kendo. He is considered a master of fourteen types of Kung-fu, and is purportedly a master of the Drunken Fist, which has never been confirmed.

No offense but with things like these as part of a character's bio leaves me no room but to call him a completely OP character.

I get that you want to play a cool character but this is on a level of ******* godlike proportions. Which sort of defeats the whole point of any RP, at this point we could just send Dal10 to defeat whatever the group encounters.

http://mwomercs.com/...-among-thieves/

says there it is a windy planet. i have generally european features with a bit of japanese particularly around the eyes (bio says european with a splash of japanese if you feel like being specific). plus the cloak also hides the Sun Zhang academy swords. sure the cloak says i may be hiding something but it does not tell you what i am hiding. i may just be a part of another gang that some other gang wants dead, i may have raped some ranchers daughter and am hiding my features, i may just have a thing for cloaks, who knows. but showing myself openly is a surefire way for the information to reach the wrong ears. this way people may comment on it but it is less likely that someone will take more than a casual interest, after all most people have some kind of secrets. and if only me and dirk were in a room it would probably be quiet enough that my paranoia would not come into play.

I told Dal10 in PM's that I don't mind if his character comes across as a bit OP, as long as he doesn't plan on upstaging the rest of the crew. We're all badasses here, after all.

PvP is off the table, though. I don't have a lot of rules, but there'll be no PK on my watch.

i can and will nerf my own character as needed. right now i got a few possibilities going. most likely i am going to go with a head injury to memory loss. it will leave me as proficient in basic fighting. however i can make my character slow due to his size if necessary. though i used them in previous points if my swords are a liability i will drop them completely from this story. on a backwater planet odds of finding a katana would be slim to none. so that takes kendo out of the equation. any other nerfs the gm feels are necessary will be implemented. easiest way to stop someone with training in martial arts though is to take away solid footing. if you strew debris around a fight zone it would severely hamper my ability to fight because i would trip.

Do you have any idea how insane it is to even suggest a single human being that has mastered 13 styles of fighting?

I know people who have spent 30 years studying just one and maybe at that point can they call themselves a master of said system.

---------

So your suggestion is that we have an amnesiac master martial artists whose only real weakness is that people might throw stuff in his way to stop him in a fight?

+1 . Ok, if drinking and eating is a fighting style, there may be masters in more than one xD
