Quite true! It was nice to see the lowpoly versions being used.
You guys can play with them in Adam's BattleTech Simulator Demo 14 has the 'mechs. I also did the horridly simplistic infantry model in demo 15 and some of the vehicles. 700 polys is not enough for a FPS look.
Thanks!
I like your enthusiasm.
In due time.
Before triangulation, I'm up to 320,602 polygons. The cockpit interior is 99,787. When I have some time I'll show you guys why this is.
Thank you.
I've hit a bit of an artistic block at the moment on how to do the lower half. The two designs I've been using differ wildly in the legs and blending them as I have so far seems to be a bit of a puzzle. Right now I'l looking at the details and thinking of how to "Fix" the designs and incorporate those ideas into my build. Especially since I don't want to match too closely to either the Destroid or the Battlemech.
One thing I can see right off is the spectacular amount of flat facing surfaces on the Phoenix design. This aspect is not very good at deflection and the general angle of attack has a greater chance of armor penetration. Something that doesn't seem to be an issue on the original chassis. So that at least is a good design direction to figure out.
It looks spectacular, and I definitely bow to the superior artist. Also totally agree with the leg issue. My only worry is that it may look a little too much like the original still (A greatly improved original, but at first glance it jumps up and says "Tomahawk.... oh wait...." lol.
But I am no lawyer, so I could be dead wrong too. And "usable" or not, HG approved or not, it looks amazing.

We have talents in different areas. I envy your drawing skills since I can't draw worth beans.

My computer isn't all that spectacular.
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.7ghz
4 GB DDRAM2
GeForce 8100 mainboard GPU
GeForce 9400GT graphics card (the two cards are linked via SLI)
I can move around about 2-3 million polygons on screen before I have to result to bilboards (2d and simple objects like cubes as on-screen replacements). The real processig hurdle isn't the objects, but the textures and lighting

Quite right, but I try to keep below 500,000 polygons. Every time I upgrade my machine, my models become more detailed and complex.
Speaking of high polygon counts, here's nearly 100,000 polygons I mentioned in a previous post.

Scan them in, save them as jpg, then upload them to imgur.com. It's what I've been doing for this thread. Then use this code to post an image to the forum:

I'd have posted this update Saturday but I was swamped. And then I couldn't connect to the forums this morning. So here's the latest set. Working on the waist and hips section. Still needs more detailing, and I still haven't quite figured out how to design the legs just yet.

If it were a fusion powered toilet, I'd have stuck it in the cockpit!
And now that I see it, I can't un-see it.

With pop-out speakers underneath the seat...
Seriously, HanaYuriko, it's gorgeous and I love the blend of the unseen and reseen. The way the arms come out and down into the guns is very strongly the reseen design, as well as the shoulders blending into the torso, yet the central torso is very much from the original - and you made it work so well. I can't wait to see what you do for the legs...have you seen the WHM-11CT?

I'm not stopping the build. In fact I've added a few more details to the more recent section. It's just that in the past week a lot has come up in my personal life that's taken a lot of time away from my list of projects. Plus I got hit by a bit of artist block and am stuck on the design of the upper leg. I have some ideas but few are working out from a mechanical and aesthetic point of view. I'll post again with images when I have an update to show off.
Sorry for the wait folks!
The WHM-11CT... Is that the one with the really strange dog legs and ugly design build?

I admit the satyr legs are kinda cool, though I really don't like the height of the torso...anyway, I just wanted to say - it could be worse, you could be trying to model these!

Building something from a reference is easy. Innovating on an existing design is challenging.
Good news everyone! I've taken my artist block and shaped it into something viable. I was looking at some of my other designs and models for ideas, and I remembered my Seraph Invictus. Then I realized how I could blend both designs together for my own model. Layered armor design! Of course it took staying up all night to get a bit of sleep deprivation and that rummy feeling (without the rum) while listening to Green Day.
