Look, here is the problem that I see with having a third person camera in this particular game, players would exploit the hell out of the increased visibility they get. Take for example Frozen City map, people would just be right on a corner of a building just looking at everything that goes on over on the other side. It would take away immersion, it would take away the steady thinking methodical approach that mechwarrior is known for. This isn't call of duty, or gears of war, this is a thinking mans FPS and it needs to stay that way, its the way it was designed.

Coming from a game wich had all that i have to say its not that bad in my opinion. It sounds much worse on paper than it is actually ingame. Even IF you can glance around a corner, you still have to clear weapons ultimately to fire, so you HAVE to expose yourself at one point. And then add to that all the radar gadgets.

Lights are scouting in MWO. Thats their designated role. For example it enables a Catapult to hail down LRMs from afar, for gods sake. My take is that weapons range and detection range will be a major contribution to battlefield dynamics.

Yes, external view gives an advantage to peekig around corners. But at least it gives this advantage consistently to EVERYBODY. It may help the jumpsniper behind his hill, but it also helps the brawler peeking around the corner before running in the open. And it certainly helps lights to maneuver difficult terrain (citys) at high speed whilst focusing a target (not so easy), so same difference really.

That being said it won't be implemented for a long time an most certainly nerver make it into the game.

All i want is if they implement spectator mode we will have an option for 3rd person as it would make it seem much more cinematic

You know... fluff wise clans use a system with "enhanced vision", so a digitized external view might be their cup of tea, radar detection factored in, of course. But with all the OP talk about the clans i see no chance for such a solution.

At least we got reconissance drones, if you can belive that video with the Whammy.

I agree with Ryu. That would add to the production value of the game. :P

Wouldn't hurt, especially for "dead" players, so they got something to watch whilst waiting.

As I've posted elsewhere, I agree to a certain extent that it feels claustrophic and a bit limiting... but that's kind of the point..

I love it when developers stick to a vision rather than just try to please everyone. It always makes for great games. Personally I hope move more toward simulation and away from the arcade style of World of Tanks. Prohibiting 3rd person view is a big step in that direction.

I'm new to MWO, but as far as gaming goes, and more specifically, FPS gaming, 3rd person view has never been proven succesful. I think the main issue with the 3rd person perspective is that you can peek around objects, and in other ways exploit the degree of which you can't see in a first person perspective.

Being in a first person perspective also means you won't be able to see your back, meaning you'll have to develop awareness skills, which is to me a definite in a skill-based game. I'd never even consider MWO if it had the option to use 3rd person views.

Ok, I'm writing in hopes to try and get people on the same page. I do not agree with nor disagree with third person views. However, I think that MechWarrior needs to reach out to the MW community as a whole. Yes forced cockpit view stays true to the sim, and eliminates other multiplayer playability issues. But at the same time there must be a way to bring a third person perspective for those who are more comfortable playing the game that way.Maybe creating a system that keeps track of your mechs blind spots so to speak, so we wouldnt have problems with cheap tricks such as seeing/detecting people over walls and around corners without having line of sight or a scout to spot. I'm not complaining, I just want to see the community as a whole happy and supporting MWO!

Ive had a dozen friends who used to only play mech Assault if you can use a third person cam. You seriously will get more players and money if you add it!
1. This is NOT MechAssault (YAY!)
2. I'd rather have a working game that gets more money in the long run than a broken & stale experience that runs out of money in the first four months.

this game isnt for people that play third person shooters.

this game is a mech sim for battle tech fans.

leave the game alone, it is what it is, and nobody wants a third person shooter (that matters).

WOW! Really, just because not everyone wants the same thing you do they automatically don't matter in the scheme of things? OH wait it's that founders thing again, has to be. Personally, I given the choice between 1st and 3rd person view I would take 1st, but to say I don't matter just because I want a different player view, that's wrong on many levels. Sorry to offend you oh wise and powerful one that matters!

Believe us, you do NOT want 3rd person for this game.

I played MW4 in "preparation" for MWO and I learned a LOT of bad habits! Why can't MWO be just like MW4?!?

At the risk of banging the drum some more, this matter is settled. The developers have made it clear from pretty early on, that there will not be the ability to drive your mech with some magical '3rd person' monitoring. "A mechwarrior is you" is the essence of the game, complete with limited line-of-sight and situational awareness and a cockpit that can quickly become your tomb.

From the books i recall that the cockpit actually grants a compressed or something 360 degree view with the "cockpit screen" separated in different parts. That would be awesome, but i guess the one would really need years of training to be good at that. :P

Aside from that, no third person for me please, except in spectator mode.

Gosh I wish I had the beating a dead horse gif this is another one of those. I think it comes from wishy washy parents who when they said no their kids would keep bugging them.
Mom I want ice cream
no
mom I'd really like some ice cream
no
mom I'm so hot ice cream would really be good now
no
mom cant I have just alittle bit of ice cream pleazzzzzzzzz
no
if I clean up my bedroom can I have some
I'll think about it
and so it goes tell mom just to shut her brat up lets him have some. Unfortunatly the kids takes this into adulthood to where we see these continued posts about the same thing reworded.
In old days you asked for something once if denied that was it...
Dad can I have icecream
no
Dad can I have some icecream plz
what did I say?
but ,but...
time for you to get your chores done, the lawn needs to be mowed, and theres some weeds to be pulled out in the garden, is your room cleaned up bed made"? here is some windex and paper towels I want you to clean all the windows.....

so we have the wishy washy parents who spoiled their kids to thank for multiple posts of same thing- 3d person view, in game voip so on. The "if we whine about it enough we will get our way" philosophy.

Either view has uses and has fans, let the players decide.

Or better yet, let the people creating the game decide. Which they have.

Seriously, this dead horse has been flogged so terribly it no longer resembles a horse.

The game developer has said: No. Not going to happen.

I disagree with third person views, they would made the game too arcade style and ruin fairness.
