BT: the Steiner version of a Awesome doesn't have PPCs? Curious...thought that could be a better FWL version, because they build the Awesome but lack the ppcs to fit it.

The League has 1 PPC factory for most of the Succession Wars, producing enough PPCs to keep up with the needs of their Awesomes & Warhammers. There aren't enough left over for anyone else.

In practice it's because we only make a small number of PPCs and virtually all of them go on building more Awesomes.
EDIT - Scooped! That'll teach me not to read the whole thread...

for instance, a long range atlas (no need for ppcs) would have a large laser on each arm, guass gun mount, lrm 20 and max armor/heat sinks to cool the large lasers and missile down. (as opposed to the brawler atlas with med lasers ac20 lrm 20 and srm 6)

That may remove some individualization... But I guess raining Atlas' and Zeus' on everyone's parades would be a bit unfair.

EDIT: Ok scratch that if we start with a medium mech I'm voting for the Chimera.

I mentioned it before i will mention it again...the major part of Steiner Mechs in the SW era are heavys...not assaults.
There are several mechworks that produce the Atlas - heck even the Snakes have there own mech works because Davions was so stupid to make quentin to a present.

I also would like to be able to totally customize mechs by being able to remove actuators and what not..

That's good, the family can dig the coins out of the corpse to buy some rice
My dear...i forgot that killing a soldier of the ConCap would leave his family starving...under this circumstances i have ordered my tech to use 2 Kroner coins... so that poor mans family had more to eat.
