If we're limited to lights at the beginning, we need a Panther.

I think you made a typo...if you are able to salvage a panther you have to strip it fore spare parts...next we don't have anything that fit into the jacket of the PPC.
Hope for the Wolfhound or go with the Commando when you really want to start with a light.
Considering costs...the Centurion is nearly as cheap as the Panther - if you lack the 1.000.000 C-Bill take a loan at you local credit institution.

The "Mini-Atlas".

Someone has to be cannon fodder and do the spotting...

I'm fond of the Zues and its got plenty of flexibility to be fitted for whatever the situation demands without being a 100ton target on the battlefield. Everyone knows the Atlas even the greenies. not everyone knows the Zues.

The Jenner will have to do for me until the Madcat/Timberwolf is released ;)

Not having the Unseen makes it kind of hard to be a Steiner heavy pilot, especially in pre-3050. I'm probably gonna have to take a Cataphract and convert it into a Caesar... which is basically what a Caesar is anyway, so that works.

My friend, you have much to learn about House Steiner. The Lyran Commonwealth excels at placing noobs within Assault Mechs.

The reasons for this are threefold:

1) Survivability. Unlike other empires, we in the Lyran Commonwealth value our soldiers. They are our collective sons and daughters, and they are far less expendable than some hunk of metal. We place our mechpilots in the mechs that we think will bring them home safely, and let them gain experience without undue risk of life and limb.

2) Non-Aggression. The Lyran Commonwealth is more concerned with keeping its borders safe than with territorial expansion. We have a defensive combat doctrine, centered around guarding our many industrialized worlds. To that end, an Assault Mech is the finest choice for area denial. Should the situation grow more dire, they are nightmares to face in urban combat. They mesh very well with our objectives.

3) Excessive wealth. The fact is, the Lyran Commonwealth is filthy rich. Everything we touch turns shiny and valuable. What's a House to do with all this wealth? Well, build exotic ice castles on frozen worlds, of course! But after we built a sufficient number of Bond villain igloo palaces, it seemed the next best thing would be to spend it on giant robo-men, so that we could have massive, real-life Rock 'Em Sock 'Em free-for-alls. And, um, defend ourselves.

Incredibly funny... only because its so bloody true... rock'em sock'em and bond villan igloo palaces, i nearly fell off my chair :P

If you get into the BETA as a founder you get to keep the mech you start there. The Atlas might be big and slow but in the right hands the other guys think it's Ragnaros the end of the world. Weapons load outs are not carved in stone. An Assualt mech with the two ppc's and a urban warfare load in the rest of its weapons slots can demolish a city and its defenders. I pity the fools that think otherwise. Lol

Guys don't forget there are heavy mechs that can deal as much punishment as the assaults, and they are a little quicker.

well the commando, spider, firestarter, or maybe an assassin, not big hitters but if your going to get some training in, a light mech is the best to go

My answer will be this gem of a quote.

"There's the wrong way and then there's the Steiner way. Which is just the wrong way with a ton of Atlases".

I won't lie, I'd be ecstatic if they brought in the Black Knight, though they were really hard to find for a while (canonically at least). But I liked their layout... almost like an Atlas Lite, as it were... or a heavy Commando, however you wanna look at it.

I truely hope there are House specific mechs in the game - it would seem so if the Dragon is in the mech lineup.

Commando for easy scouting XP and then a Centurion.

Il get to the atlas eventually but want to get better at controlling my cute little scout mechs first before i strut around like a proper Steiner :)

Since this is starting 3025...I'll take a modified Jenner...add armor...go 8/12 (like a Locust)...2x Med Lasers...2x Small Lasers...You get the best scout mech in the system. The Kell Hounds used the Locust variant (one less Med Laser) in many successful battles. Until Mech Online introduces more light mechs, I'll modify the Jenner all day. :P

Totally agreed. I would love a Commando or Javelin
