I agree with everyone who says it determines on play style, you pick the mech that suits how you wanna play the game. The atlas is for me since I always thought it was so iconic to the battletech series with its intimidating look with the giant skull head and I like how they made it look here. ;)

I agree with some of the comments.. The Founders mechs depends on your play style.. Atlas as a heavy tank but very slow and can easily be taken out if you can constantly keep attacking it's core...

That goes the same for anything else. Jenners, Catapult, Atlas, Hunchback.. They are all good to be honest.. But I mainly prefer Hunchback and Jenners.. =D.. Catapult is fun as a missle boat =D..

Hopefully at release.. They will reveal more mech like the MadCat!!!.. I so so want the MadCat!!! and the Centurion!!..

If you're only looking at C-Bill cost, then Atlas is best. The rest you could buy for less farmtime. But this is assuming you actually want to main the Atlas as a farming Mech. If not, I can't recommend it. Logically if you want to spend your career in a certain Mech, then that Founder's Mech would be the ideal choice. If I was Elite I would have went with Catapult. Sure, I'll have to pay more later for an Atlas than I would for a Catapult, but if I enjoy the Catapult more then putting the boost on this guy instead of that guy is more logical than the saved C-Bills.

The "Mad Cat" as you call it won't come out until the Clans are released. The Timberwolf was a Clan heavy, so unless you intend to join when they come out, don't expect to be able to get it.

As for the Centurion....isn't it already here? It might not be a Founder's mech, but it's definitely among the ones that'll be out on release.

And that's assuming they even allow us to play those Mechs. I'm betting that they reserve Clan Mechs for the opposition in PvE/Co Op content, which would be clever usage of them without ruining game balance and fun to fight.

And yes the Centurion is a confirmed Mech that will be in the game without a doubt at release. For a list of confirmed Mechs with their default variant/loadouts:

They've already said repeatedly that they intend to allow us to play as the Clans. They just have to figure out how to deal with the balance issues between Clans vs IS.

"said repeatedly"? I've dug everywhere for answers on the topic but haven't seen a thing. To my knowledge they haven't said ANYTHING about Clans being playable. If you've somehow found some, then do us the favor of linking it. As far as we know so far, Clan Tech might not ever be playable. They might just put it in as PvE opposition. Would bypass the whole "Clan vs IS" balance issues entirely and give us interesting PvE/Co Op content at the same time. But I don't know what they will do. As I said, I haven't seen them speak a word on it.(And I don't pretend to know like some people)

I also spent hours pondering which pack to go for and after much deliberation decided legendary. Like someone else said, all four mechs, get to chop and change between them all. get a big beefy at las to soak up damage, scout to annoy people and run round laughing at them and then the "artillery" for giggles if you like that as well. Oh plus you have your name in the credits = instant win for me :D

None are best, each is made to be the best of its class.

No mech is really better than the other, just choose a good weapons layout and enjoy what your doing.

You can change which mech you chose after you bought the pack.

So, buy a pack, pick whichever mech looks the coolest to you, play around in the beta, and then change to the one you like best.

How do you change Founder Mechs?

A catapult loaded to bear with SRMs and lasers can work pretty fine too

Yep. Two SRM6 with 4 tons of ammo, 260 XL-engine, four Med PulseLasers and a AMS with 2 tons of ammo.

I have it on good authority that light mechs are OP :P what .... it's had to be true. I mean who would want to pilot a dark mech

haha terrible joke aside, yes go with your play style, if you like slug it out go heavier, if you like to nimble, light to medium.

Yes.

This has been done before so many times. It all depends, each is good at something, none are good at everything.

I prefer Atlas because it's pretty noob friendly (lots... and lots... and LOTS... of armor).

I think the Hunchback is the best founder mech for beginners. People seem to have trouble fighting them in combat, and that AC 20 is just nasty. swap it out for a Gauss and you have a long range sniper.
