Anyone have/know of a good tutorial for GIMP? I'm trying to use the templates but everyone seems to be using photoshop. It's kind of...a lot to take in at once and isn't obviously something that's friendly to the "hey, jump in and paint" mentality.
Not on this site... you could ask Dihm, since he was doing all of his Shieldwall repaints in it.
Ok, it's fairly simple. If you want to work with the templates made by our fellow forumers and know how to draw and change color in gimp, you'll be done in no time.
I tried it with the Cicada template and the steps were:
1st: Go to the painting layer (click on it in the bottom left bar). You'll see an orange screen and cockpit windows.
2nd: Select all of it with a square tool and hit delete on your keyboard.
3rd: Now click on the "Fuzzy select tool" [a magic stick/wand].
4th: Select the Primer layer and click anywhere on the Cicada
5th: If I didn't screw up, you should now have the whole Cicada selected .
6th: Now, above the layers, you have an opacity meter and a clickable arrow pointing down.
7th: Click it and select Burn (the other two above it also work, but let's keep it simple).
8th: Select he color you want, the opacity of the brush on the right side of the screen and do some nice repaints.
Hopefully, it works, isn't very confusing and helps you a bit.
