YAY! I am older than someone. (not that it would make a difference lol) Ohh don't mind me, just poking around the forums of the great houses to see which I would rather serve, still have NO clue what so ever on which to join :( .

Sarna.net, the BattleTech/Mechwarrior wiki, has pages that include links to the text of the old sourcebooks for each House.
It describes the history, workings, and customs of the Houses and their associated Successor States up to the year 3025, with the wiki itself providing some additional information:
House Davion/Federated Suns ^_^
House Kurita/Draconis Combine
House Liao/Capellan Confederation
House Marik/Free Worlds League
House Steiner/Lyran Commonwealth

Unfortunately, there isn't a corresponding book for the Free Rasalhague Republic, but some of the above books do make mention of the Republic (generally with regard to their relationships with the various Houses) and the FRR's Sarna page does contain a fair bit of information.

I recommend having a look at each, as well as continuing to have a look around... :)

The holy order with the big C himself confirmed that the AFFS didn't use their HPG network to relay military messages shortly before and during the 4th war.

Do you have a citation where this information can be found?

It makes no sense to do it that way, since Comstar is the "neutral" interstellar communications monopoly.
For example, sending orders from New Avalon to New Aragon, distance is 202 light years.
A priority HPG message makes 5 stops (range of 50 light years), costs a lot of c-bills, and can be there in a few hours (for more money) using a circuit.
The K-1 black boxes have a range of 200 light years but can only send a message at 25 light years a day, so it would take 9 days to get the same order out.
This is also 7 jumps away by jumpship, which take 6-9 days to recharge their K-F drive. So the fastest charging ship would take 42 days to arrive in system.

**Info taken from Sarna.net

I don't have a source to cite, but I actually think he's right. As I recall, Hanse Davion used the black boxes because he was worried that ComStar was not as neutral as they claimed. As it turns out, he was right, and because he relied on the black boxes he was able to get the drop on everyone. It took longer, but it also made it almost impossible for ComStar to interfere.

Why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends...

I bet we are all going to be closer "friends" when them damn Clanners come knocking on the front door of the Draconis Combine.

Leave it to a Davion to forget about the Jade Turkeys altogether.

Don't worry we'll handle it without you ;D

Davion and Liao in a death struggle, hum. Yeah, let's you and him fight! While you two struggle for existence, we will rearrange our borders with the CC and protect a few (or many) of their planets from your eventual "liberation". You Federats weren't too bad until you got mixed up with the Lyrans.

If you check the history, Comstar put an interdiction on house Davion for an alleged attack on a HPG station just before the 4th SW. They had to rely on the "secret" black boxes for comunication for years.

So, about that interdiction...

Quote

ComStar also took an interest in the course of the war. The supposedly neutral power desired smaller, more fragmented nation that would be easier to manipulate, but the 4th War seemed to promise a mighty Federated Commonwealth. ComStar decided to slow the AFFS' progress by imposing a communications interdiction. They faked an AFFS attack on the HPG on Sarna and used the "incident" as the excuse they needed. Unbeknownst to ComStar, Hanse Davion had changed the units he used to assault Sarna at the last minute, alerting him to ComStar's duplicity. Despite that, Hanse could not afford to openly challenge ComStar, so he made no public statement about it.

-----

ComStar showed their perfidy once more towards the end of the war. In order to set back the technological progress of the Successor States, ComStar executed a raid on the New Avalon Institute of Science. They disguised themselves as the Death Commandos, the elite commandos of the Capellan Confederation and personal bodyguards of Chancellor Liao. During the battle, Prince Hanse Davion took to the field himself in his BattleMaster. The attack did only superficial damage to the university, but did great damage to ComStar in Hanse Davion's eyes. His spies in the Capellan Confederation later reported to him that the Death Commandos were on the planet Kathil during the time of the raid, so there was no way they could have pulled it off. Coupled with the knowledge of the supposed HPG destruction on Sarna, Hanse came to the only logical conclusion.

The Fox already knows that ComStar's neutrality is a sham, and he even knew that the Capellans were not involved with regard to the attack on the NAIS. :P

As for the League "protecting" Capellan worlds... it seems like there is little faith placed in the capabilities of the League's Capellan allies?
Moreover, from what I understand, "Janos Marik was quite satisfied watching the other successor states to 'let the fools knock themselves dizzy while we sit back, rest, and enjoy'. However, his allies convinced him to attack the Lyran Commonwealth's 'weakly' defended border to the Free Worlds League."
The League leadership just couldn't (and perhaps still can't?) leave well-enough alone, could they? :P

Now how in the world will the developers bring Comstar into the equation, it would make perfect sense, that after we take so many planets, that we are shot down from taking any more, otherwise we face the wrath of interdiction, and how will that penalty really affect our attacks, as the black boxes have been hacked by Kurita anyways.

It makes all the sense in the world to go after Marik and Liao, let the clans have there way with Kurita. We will get the Jade Falcon Tech. If Kurita starts getting adventuresome, the we will counterattack them with a push that will make them cry at the loss of their district capitals.

In-game moderators?

A player is messing up the game for everyone and a bone-white Atlas appears with a flaming crown and a gold plated AC/20 to settle the matter with extreme prejudice.

Oh yeah, feel free to violate the Concord of Kapteyn. The Liaos will have a field day bringing Andurien back home. :(
