I'm interested to know how a mech with a max weight limit, and jump jets designed to support that weight, can be overloaded.

The Catapult is a 65 ton mech; its jump jets are designed to lift and move a 65 ton machine. Overloading on ammo? That sounds like the weight limit was increased beyond what the original thrust to weight ratio was designed to handle. Clarify?

View PostHighlandWolf, on 23 March 2012 - 05:27 PM, said:

was wondering about this myself..how can you overload on ammo when its designed to take a certain amount of ammo and not more..and the jets are designed for that weigt limit

View PostProsperity Park, on 23 March 2012 - 05:40 PM, said:

I see two possibilities: 1) The effect of JumpJets scales with weight such that a fully loaded Mech can't accelerate upward off the ground anymore, or 2) You can overload Mechs (to a limited extent) at the expense of maneuverability and speed.

Either one makes sense for a videogame. In one case a Catapult can pump out 65 tons of thrust which is enough to hover a 65 ton Mech, but not enough to lift off; that would reward the player who goes into battle lean and mean. The other case is an example of how going slightly over a chassis's weight limit causes severe deleterious effects; while going from lightly loaded to fully loaded should slow you down somewhat, going just a hair over that weight limit should impose artificially-steep performance cuts designed for game balancing purposes.

I would like to see an overload option available, along with bright red warnings about how you're over your weight limit and your Mech's performance will be very compromised... slower top speed, rotational movement, weapons convergence, reduced heat sink efficiency, jump jets inoperative, the lot.

View Postverybad, on 23 March 2012 - 06:15 PM, said:

I'm guessing you can simply overload your mech, but there are maneuverability concequences. This makes sense to me, you can overload a cargo truck and it will still work, just has problems.

You can also underload a truck, it's more maneuverable then... So long as there are sensible concequences to any benefits, and the benefits are limited, it seems like a good thing.

Ducks shouldn't jump over hunters with AC-20s...

Let me put this to rest...

The Catapult is a freshly added Mech that hasn't been tuned yet. Customization wasn't really limited on this test Mech so people were able to overload it with ammo. This will not be the case in the future.

And thus ended Paul's desire to ever post in this thread again .

Thanks for the clarification Paul !

Sadly, I guess it's only natural that the community will spasmodically blow phrases out of proportion and take everything they see/hear to an extreme. There won't be any quelling that until the beta comes out; and even then, people are going to assume everything's final and be aggravated at how things are with no realization that the game can be balanced down the line with community feedback.

These people....are drama queens.

I probably say this every week but this week was the best play test yet, now with 100% more smack talk thanks to working chat. I think Paul spent more time smack talking than piloting B)

And a minor issue was finally resolved where playing in the test lab meant everyone showed up as test-lab1, test-lab2 etc. now names are attached so really brings home exactly who you're fighting. Makes it so much easier to go and gloat like a **** congratulate the other player for his efforts.

Really Kyle we censor j.e.r.k. that doesn't even offend my delicate British sensibilities ;)

As much as there are in your country! B)
The inhabitants of the US and Canada are descendents of emigrants from all over the world: britisch, french, dutch, german, irish, italian, chinese, japanese...
The only real americans are the native ones which are spuriously sometimes called indians. But even their ancestors emigrated from East Asia a loooong time ago! ;)
Looking at the fact that the cradle of mankind stood in West Africa makes us all west africans. The reason why there are today different nations is an invention of our honourable leaders to have them an excuse for making us going up against each other!

Curious if that means weight limits or general limits... Suppose we'll find out though Battletech did have overloaded rules, always a pity they didn't carry into designs and loadouts...just the stuff you picks up on the battlefield. Would certainly be interesting if you could do that.

Carry MOAR MISSILEZ!!! (all while running 10 kph!)

status card? you mean tribal ID or tribe card? some of us have BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) numbers. Which might be why some of us still refer to ourselves as Indians. There isn't a Bureau of Native American Affairs, not yet, sure the Political Correct Police and the thought police will get around to it eventually.

It is a double edged sword following this topic. We get to hear about game play (+) then we don't get to experience game play (-).

Its very nice for us to hear the enthusiasm and passion for the game from the people making it for us. Gives me hope.

Keep up the good work and keep sharing please.
