Likely way of balancing the Clans

- Clan tech will be exactly as advertised. More dmg, further range, lighter materials. Better.
- Despite being Omnis, their 'Mechs will not have the level of customization available to the IS, meaning no C3
(obviously), but also no remote drones, ability to lay sensors, call in artillery/LRM strikes (The Vipers wiped
out the Falcons on this mere point alone they find it so dishonorable)...
In short, while the invading Clans will have better guns, they won't have the ability to utilize teamwork as a weapon (which does fall in line with their mono e mono style of dueling & obsession for personal glory). On paper that doesn't sound like too big a balancing act, in reality, its a massive equalizer.

I recon you probably won't generate any "honor points" when you team up to kill enemy mechs.
My best guess would be that all damage a enemy mech received should have been done by you.
Too bad they won't be including dezgra points in this.

Because for a clanner, why would you need honor points?

I'd like to see balance come from Battlevalue or --in the absence of a BV system-- tonnage. Nothing more, nothing less. Clans get better goodies, IS gets superior numbers. No hanky-panky.
Can I get a hells yeah?

How about the Clans get a Binary against the IS getting 3 lances. Ten 'Mechs versus Twelve.

That's the idea. To be honest, I was thinking more along the lines of 2 to 1. It would give great appeal to either side.

- No c3, tag, narc or area effect weapons.
- Moving out of weapon range is Prohibited
- Intentionally moving out of line of sight is prohibited.
- Failure to fire a weapon when possible is prohibited.
You can't not fire a weapon... that sounds like potentially major heat issues. Can't move out out of line of sight, any confined quarters or city fighting would be terrible, terrible to deal with like that. And not being able to move out of weapon range, is that your or their weapons? If it's theirs you just lost the advantage of ER range after the first shot or two. Even if it's yours, is it only your longest range weapon, your shortest?

I'm inclined to think the balance will come from numbers. Something like 12 IS mechs to 10 clanners, or possibly even more dramatic than that. This would encourage teamwork from all parties if one on one the clanners have a definite advantage, but the clanners know they won't fight single mechs and so they will in the very least travel in groups.

Placing objectives at such a distance that the only way an assault can get there is by ignoring everything, leaving them exposed to enemy fire
And,
Assigning bonus honor for using a lighter 'Mech. Assigning bonus honor for engaging and/or defeating a heavier 'Mech than you own, either by absolute tonnage, weight class, tonnage by tens, or some combination, with a negative honor modifier for engaging a lighter 'Mech.
For instance, Clanner A chooses a FireMoth while Clanner B chooses a Dire Wolf. Clanner A gets bonus honor, right out of the gate for 'bidding below cut-down'. When A engages a Locust and defeats it, they gain some honor for defeating an enemy 'Mech, but because the weights are so close, they do not get a bonus. When A engages an enemy Centurion, they gain bonus honor for engaging the heavier machine and even more honor if they are able to defeat it. Similarly, when Clanner B engages and defeats an enemy Atlas, they gain the same amount of honor as A did for defeating the Locust. But when B engages a Catapult, B loses honor. B does not lose any more honor if they defeat the Catapult, as the defeat was a forgone conclusion of the gross misuse of resources, but B loses even more honor if defeated by the Catapult.
Thus, Clan players are encouraged to balance engagements by selecting lighter machines and engaging heavier enemy machines.
