Hello fellow Davions and any Capellans that decide to snoop as per usual.

*ps dont worry I wont have any long winded speeches this time ;)

What I was wondering though is if people would want a private section of the Davion house forum - or make each faction house's forum private once the game goes live.

I think some sort of private area should be introduced to allow for tactical planning - training sessions etc - without having other houses snoop.

I would argue for just a private section of the regular public area (a war room if you will, with the current area remaining as it is) however - as a lot of allied house members have come and commented on things - and I'd hate to lose that.

Especially for us, with Steiner being separate - we could use some sort of common area. Anyways - let me know what you think - or if you think it would be a waste of space/time.

EDIT - Sections bolded so that people actually understand what I'm talking about. Also - PLEASE stop posting "go make ur own forum!" It's not the point and is getting old.

i would like a private sector or some things. I think once game starts they will probably set up faction war rooms were we can discuss upcoming battles with no spying by our opponents.

Maybe private later. Until the game releases, public works fine.

ED: besides, if it were private, we couldn't have this exciting exchange of ideas!

Public. The RP/trash talk's too much fun to miss out on.

Besides, there are plenty of other places/mediums to communicate sensitive information.

I agree and hope they do.

I agree completely - that's why I said when the game goes live.

True - I would prefer to leave the main section open and just have some kind of war room to communicate it - but only when the actual game comes out. As for other mediums etc - those usually require being there in real time (Teamspeak, Vent etc) or wouldn't reach enough people (separate website - PM's etc).

Oh but if I had the time/money/talent/desire to make a whole new website - when a private forum section would suffice. Besides - I would have to private invite every Davion? A horrible expenditure of energy.

This site should stay public. It is healthy to have players from other groups participate in discussions.

Private forums should be handled by independent organizations on non-PGI sites. One example is how www.housedavion.org has been set up as a private site for anyone that wants to participate in House discussions.

Fair enough - but that site is likely not known to the majority of players on this board. The only way to rectify it would be to pin its URL - which then defeats the purpose of privacy. I think a simple subsection of this public forum would be perfectly acceptable - leave this main house Davion forum public, but have a subjection for Davion people. I want intrafaction communication as much as anyone. I guess it all depends how much we'll actually need to plan to begin with. If we have no say on what worlds are attacked then there isnt much point.

This entire forum should remain public. If you want a private forum, make one of your own.

Everyone keeps repeating the same argument - and I keep repeating myself. Making a separate forum would not work as it would be myself and no one else. IF a private SECTION of a forum (and this would go for all houses btw - everyone would get one) - the main part of the house forum that we are on would remain public. It would have to be on this site - otherwise few people would see it - I couldn't control faction affiliation - and that would defeat the purpose. It is becoming readily apparent, however, that misconstruing my debate about a private forum for something else. I'm not some hermit or recluse that hates other houses. I've been more active on other house boards than a lot of you I'm sure. The point I'm trying to make is once the game is launched - and we are actually warring - it might be nice to have a convenient place to discuss strategy without broadcasting it to the people we are warring against. Apparently I'm somewhat alone in that opinion.

First of... Thanks for the welcome Nomad. :-)

And then... this game is free to play. How will you prevent players from different houses to make up an account with another house to enter their war room?

I like the idea of a private place to discuss strategy. But I can't see it getting implementet in a meaningfull way, if/when the game and the forum account are connected.

Don't start threads about Cepellans being crazy, bad, crushed, trolls, ... and we won't bother you any more. ;)

You are most welcome Egomane. As to your point - there isn't a secure way no. The only protection would be people merely being lazy and not wanting to put forth the effort to snoop. Then again - each house could have an intelligence service to spy and counter spy on the other houses. That could be fun lol. I don't really care either way - I just wanted to see if people felt like I did.

Well, you know, the danger comes when everyone sees that the Capellans are superior to Davion, and all those people join the Confederation en-masse bringing with them all their knowledge of your plans.

Come now, they are Davion dogs. It is what they do. If they were benevolent, they would be......well....Liao. Plus, it gives us reason to come and carry the offensive into their worlds, where it should have been in the first place.(it is after all time we take the offensive.)

To destroy you from within? I had heard or Intelligence Secretariat was planning that - but it seems too cruel even for us. To give you the illusion of victory - only to be brought down from within. I sure hope that doesn't happen to you guys! I'd prefer we get to destroy you in a stand up fight, rather than using tactics only a capellan scoundrel could love...

Nah he's named after something you guys never were: a victor in anything. If he were named after anything capellan it would be "disappointment" or perhaps "lunatic" lol.

This. A place for communication among equals without outside interference I'd welcome with open arms, but I'd never discuss tactics or other ... delicate ... topics there. Also, placing some restrictions on the 'private' channels of each house will be necessary, e.g. access could be tied to your ingame rank.
