Well, I hate console players of my generation. Nothing against older people playing on consoles, because I never saw one start a flame war, or something like that.

Ok I respect that.

Wait, what? Not to be rude or spitfull or what ever. But are you sugesting that this topic be locked becuase you are unable to keep yourself out of the thread, or conducting yourself as an adult? So why do you hate console players again?

Suggestion comes from the fact that from what I read, a lot of people have the same "problem". You can't make a topic like this and think everyone will accept it, that is the reason for this. :)

One little note if I may. Most of you is, as i noticed, from the US. I am from Europe and here it isn't a big deal since the consoles are less spread, less numerous within the player base. Of course both fanatic camps have their noisy fundamentalists, but frankly, you either have a passion for PC and time for hardcore player experience - not in terms of calling console players a mindless drones playing junk games, but in having huge possibilities of game modding and larger genre spread of games on PC, which takes time and devotion - or you don't, and then you start with consoles. No harm done either way, but maybe it is more of an issue overseas.
Personally, if I didn't start playing PC games some 15 years ago i would be playing on xbox now. But as I said, it's not a big deal.

Strange to read...this weird tendency on the internet for most to be vehemently pro-pc almost to or even crossing the point of insulting those who use consoles.

You have to always consider where on the internet you are. That will dictate a great deal more than you might think.

But the console has it's benefits too, especially for people who lack the understanding for pc's.

If I understand you here, you are implying that folks choose consoles because they don't understand PC's? Is that what I should take from what you said here?

Don't be too disappointed. While many PC gamers like to talk a big show, the ONLY reason to prefer a game on the PC is for the graphics. A great game is a great game, regardless of the platform it is released on.

Current consoles are 6 years old... buying a new computer today will outperform computers from 6 years ago too.

in 2005, did a 600 computer outperform a console?

Not to mention games and periphery are also things you have to purchase ontop of a computer as well. I have yet to see a out of the box pc to come with a joystick, so why should an xbox?

Don't let the red-headed step children of gaming get you down.

I got an idea for the 720.. at least as far as online PC gaming goes, Microsoft could put Win8 on it in the background. Then you can download and install games for the PC on the 720. The Xbox uses PC hardware anyway, so why not have some kind of dual boot system, so you can enjoy games like WoT, ST:O, WoW, and of course MW:O as well.. not to mention all the other features they could port for both a PC and a Console for the living room.. it actually makes sense if you think about it.

As far as game play and controlling.. I currently play MW:LL with a XBox 360 controller for the PC right now works well..

No way, Chuckie. You would have the console more expensive, about 175€ (because of Win, which is expensive as...) and they would need new hardware. The fact that we have Win in background and they have nothing makes their 6 years old hardware able to start today's games. :)

This doesn't mean you won't find a handful of console gamers out there who really do enjoy MechWarrior

I would venture to say that there is more than a simple handful out there, but, in general, you are correct.

more console gamers like MechAssault's style of play; and this game WILL NOT be MechAssault.

Correct again. As a matter of fact...dig this:

http://stickskills.c...nt-summer-2012/

There are several mech action games being put together as we speak that are very nice looking. I don't think anyone here was under any kind of misconception about this game being another MA though. Hmmm...

Because of a console's popularity with the masses, and its set hardware, the world enters a long dark age each time a new console is released where little to no progress is made. In PC gaming's hayday, the progress in technology with gaming hardware was amazing.

That is all true, if you believe that the purpose of gaming is to push the envelope of hardware. I don't think of gaming in that light at all, and I don't think that gaming goes dark just because hardware "stagnates". Most PC gamers that see things through this filter are usually only satisfied with a game if it is at the top of the pile graphically. I have noticed that the only true complaint out of PC gamers is that consoles don't have the same horse power. I have played v-games since the dawn of consoles and I can say in all honesty, that the games that I have loved the most, PC or console, are great because they were fun to play, not because of the graphics.

I doubt your predication will be correct.

That same prediction was made when the xbox and ps2 came out. And again come 360 and ps3. and it hasn't held true yet.

PC's have nothing to fear, ESPECIALLY in the simulation market.

I remember when the PS2 was launched, the media went bananas. News shows were trying to say that it was more powerful than the missile targeting computers that the US has. Saddam Hussein reputedly bought fifty PS2's and had his "techies", (If that's what they call them over there) tear them apart and try to unlock their secrets.

Once again, undeniably...

God bless the Scottish.

With the recent announcement that the 'Xbox 720's chipset is now in production (and has been since december last year) It is likely that it will launch late 2012.
While Mechwarrior online will be released mid 2012 ( we hope).
With every new console generation, masses of players flock to the consoles because the first few years of their lives they are superior to PC's. This current generation of consoles nearly killed PC gaming back in 2005-2009. And only now is PC making a comeback.
This game is dependant on players to continue playing, so if my prediction is correct and PC gaming is killed in 2013, will Mechwarrior Online have enough time to be successful before the new consoles are released?

No and not even close. I laugh every time someone brings up th 'death of pc gaming because of consoles.' This never happened and did not come close in 2005-2009. Game companies come and go as they always have, but gaming on the PC never was threatened. It is a media fallacy brought on by writers with too much time and too little readers trying to make a big splash.
Gaming will ebb and flow just like any other industry, but I do not foresee consoles killing pc gaming anytime in the foreseeable future. It will take a paradigm shift in how we use computers and consoles, and likely a true merging of the two to kill pc gaming. But when that happens, the PC as we know it now will not exist anyway.

Now, the other thing to consider is that there are certain typesof games that do not work on the console. Typically these are Sims, Complex RPGs and MMORPGs, deep strategy games. Basically any game that requires a lot of controls to play. Where as shooters, actions sims, etc. work very well on consoles. Both have their place.

PC Gaming will never die, at least not until the gap between PC rigs and Consoles tightens, Eventually they will be the same thing. PC gaming will not die out due to the fact people can mod the games, that there is one key aspect. Until companies start charging you to use a custom made map for a game that some random dude made, PC gaming will keep it's good share of the gaming crowd.

Consoles are just easier to design for, as you only have a couple specs to worry about, PC world you have thousands.

Whatever.... I bought a few months ago a copy of Crysis Wars... not to play the game... not at all. Just so I can play the amazing Multiplayer Mechwarrior: Living Legends Mod. Made and given freely to all Battletech lovers everwhere. Its amazing. Made BY people who love Battletech. :)

I have to say... its pretty impressive... the only Battltech Game IVE ever played where you can play Mechs/Tanks/Infantry/Aerospace fighters and Vtols alike. http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/

I just want to know when this game is going to be ready to roll...

An Old School Battletech Fan since the begining and a IWM Demonstrator

Pc Gaming Vs Console? Apples and Oranges... I have and use both. But then again I dont just use my PS3 for gaming. I handle most of my A/V stuff through it as well. I have like 10 seasons of Dr Who/Torchwood etc on the HD. Easiest way to play HD quality files on your Big sceen.

Might? if your PC is more outdated than a console theres no might to that.

As for me I dislike consoles... well any that came out after the psx/n64.. oh Also like the Wii but thats more for VC aspect, harvest moon (and so I can play PSO)... Anyway I'm getting off topic here. My problem with the masses of console users is that they feel they should be able to play every game with their very limited controller and gaming companies want to accomidate them so they endup taking games and simplifying the control scheme and the UI while at the same time not taking the time to put those features BACK in the PC version. I think the next gen of consoles should just come with a keyboard and mouse honestly.

EDIT: Mad companies actually lose money on their console sales and make it up with service subs (XBL etc etc) and game sales. However my guess would be the next gen of consoles will run 600-750 USD
