you guys all do realize EA had no choice in closing down MPBT. Mickysoft owned the digital FASA rights and cockblocked EA from renewing their license so they where left with a project they could do nothing with.

I'd have to ask the powers that be, but I don't think that was it. If you remember, Microsoft had their branding stamped on the game and were in for a piece of the pie. See credits;

That would be correct from what I recall as well. Remember that EA didn't close down their Online Games section with 3025. A wide variety of POGO (which they wasted ~50 million on) games along with Motor City (I believe something else as well) were still active for several months. EA managerial decisions brought 3025 down. Maybe MS had a small hand in the affairs, but being the main contributing reason no, it has been stated by several former employees that was not the case in the past.

Microsoft had more then a small hand in the affair. Yes Development costs for MPBT:3025 was deeply in the red which was hurting EA's Bottom line. This in turn caused the EA suits to discontinue funding there by closing down the project. Microsoft however exasperated the issue because when the licensing renewal came up they wanted an extremely high amount of compensation for use of their IP. Which would have made recouping development costs for the game almost slim to none given the massive bill it already racked up.

Legally EA had to credit MS in its game because they did own the property while EA was working on it, however given that p2p games at the time had fairly low subscription rates (as in cost not player numbers) and EA was so far in the red on development when microsoft told them what it would cost to renew the license that was the final nail in the coffin. Combine this with the fact that the MPBT3025 beta was still very much incomplete missing very key CnC elements needed for its planetary conquest strategies and you get a dead game.

Oh jeez, I didn't even catch that was something she posted way back when. All I gotta say is we deserve another story. :)

***.. don't even!! It would have to be submitted in chapters since that was written in 1999 :-)

It is so difficult for me to fathom playing along side you way back when, when you were 14 years old!!! I have a 15 year old son who is totally enthralled in his online communities (PS3/Xbox). I get onto him for the time he spends playing the games, and for calling the community his "friends". Needless to say, there of course needs to be balance between his online habits and friends, and remembering his everyday "in the flesh" friends. It just dawned on me though, that he is his mother!! I will vow to be more sensitive when he is trying to convince me that these are REAL friends.

Hey, I was legal then! Barely. LOL.

Oh my ***. I remember reading this when you joined DRAAGUN. I was full on into my own internet gaming addiction right then. I did 12-18 hours a day in MPBT on a regular basis and completely identified with it. Totally voted for you btw. :)

I didn't remember that there was a vote! haha I guess I did ok since I did inevitably where the "DRAAGUN" and -SF- tags!! Reading this forum, and all of the threads is eliciting soooo many memories. Good to be hanging around with you all!

Had EA managed the project properly we may well had years of one outstanding online BT game. Clearly hindsight is 2020....

I also played quite a bit of Mechcommander online under the handle herbz back in the Mplayer and TheZone days. I remember good times Playing as part of a few diff leagues like Starlance and The Flaming Sword.

Anyone remember typing this? Breachnt 750k bbr NA/NM ?? lol

~S~ Wildwoman.
Oh how I know how it feels to want to be in a Mech durning the AOL or Gamestorm days and have the summer days pass by. Alot of us made really close friends and it felt like a new family. It is great to see that family come back around.

Mustaaaaang!! They are giving me skittles and fresh newspaper at the HH Headquarters. ;D

Wildwoman, I've met a lot of Son/Moms that are into the same game. Who knows you may end up feeding him a new addiction with this one... lol. But seriously we need another story so you better start working on that first chapter!

My story is: I continued to play video games through college. Got into EverQuest and it consumed my life. I quit cold turkey and started focusing on my career. I was then able to socialize for real and so I met a girl. http://www.globalagu...isc/pics/us.bmp Well I met lots of girls, lol, but I kept this one and her 2 daughters. http://www.globalagu...cs/IMG_1121.jpg We were together for about 3 years and then got married in Pacific Grove, CA 7/3/2009. She is 8 years older than me, doesn't look like it, I guess I've always had a thing for older women. :D http://www.globalagu...cs/IMG_1200.jpg Needless to say she was sick throughout our honeymoon.. My wife gave birth to our daughter Ava on 01/29/2010. She will be turning 2 in just a few months. http://www.globalagu...sc/pics/Ava.jpg Now I just work 2 businesses to keep my family happy and the wife home with the kids. :) So I could use a little MWO... I've been playing World of Tanks and to be honest it is nothing like what we had with BT. I have found good people but the conquest is really lacking. And, well, my tank doesn't get jumpjets....

Radman checking in. Played mainly as ELH but some Davion as well. Still remember playing when the towers went down. Sobering day but I loved MPBT:3025!!! Glad to see something finally coming out that might fill its shoes.

This community did allot of many of us. I remember being in Germany, a single father, and having very little social contact with others beyond the game. Things like GENCON and trips to C-ville to see the development of the game are great memories. It is also good to see folks that were old timers when I first started to play. Makes one feel young again!!! OK, younger!!!

You're welcome. Stop by sometime, first round is on me. :)

Though my "IC" persona is probably going stay neutral, let me just say that when the day comes that I get to strap in and drop on some g-d forsaken rock to fight for control, there's no other group that I'd want to drop with than House Davion. It was my first home in MPBT, and the Sun & Sword is where I'll always be drawn.

Edit: G-d is apparently filtered here. Interesting.
