I also just noticed another bad trend, this is the second time that FD has rendered a 'gun arm' (a mech limb that ends
in a barrel) into a single amorphous block - he did this with the dragon as well. Battlemechs are known throughout any faction
to have the capability of putting guns into arms that are more than just the upper arm actuator! It's like imaging Samus Aran with a full left arm, and just a cannon sticking out of her right shoulder, just too silly.

Looks to me like we've got a lower arm actuator on the Centurion. The Dragon (if we harken waaaaay back to the original TRO drawing) doesn't have one, so the shoulder cannon look is appropriate. Maybe not the prettiest, but appropriate.

If this is what he was able to turn the Centurion into I can not wait to see what the Timber Wolf will look like.

You have nothing to fear in redesigning her. She will be loved.

poor lineart is indeed poor; but the Dragon always had the Lower Arm Actuator otherwise I would have remembered to flip it around
every now and then to hit opponents in back of me...and more than 3 hexes away :)

also, point out the Lower Arm Actuator on the Centy, I don't see it - I see 4-5 armored panels that
don't form a joint, and if there is one under there it would have almost no rotation angle anyway D:

This has taken a large leap from Western Mech design, and nothing about it says battletech, and even less of it says Inner Sphere.

Not bashing FD's designs, and this would be a great not Battletech mech, but it looks like it was designed from the name, not the original mech.

... so... does this mean we'll be getting the Trebuchet, too, or has that been soldily replaced by the Catapult?

Oh, and I assume that you'll give us something to do with that left hand, correct? I mean, I forgot which keyboard bind is for "Hold Arm In Front of Body as Shield" but we'll probably want something else to do with that arm...

Yes it is if you are working on Mechwarrior.

I appreciate all the work you guys put into things and for the most part am totally on board with you and your redesigns, the catapult looks amazing, the hunchback and Jenner are spot on, the Dragon I was iffy about but this one is a mech that fits the name instead of the original artwork, I mean you could probably argue if you wanted that this hits the 30% rule for IP licensing, man it probably hits 45-50% I dunno, but it is not what I have grown up with...not by a long shot. Plus for the obviousness, there was never a sheild on the original mech, this could be custom, fine that works, but then why role it out as the showcase.

Again, love FDs work, but this is not the centurion this is something that he thought would be cool and made. If you had not called it the centurion then the only thing giving it away is the head fin.

agreed, Amarus

another thing to remember is, just as one shouldnt disparage someones work constantly; neither should every piece of work be immediately accepted as 'amazing.' Always good to maintain a bit of scrutiny, and I agree with Amarus, if this is mechwarrior, then certain things need to be conformed to, I think its this mech where the issue comes up. I love FD's work too, and he's done some epic CBT pics that conform to CBT, just this one is very far off.

I also don't understand why its asymmetrical too.

More awesome than words!

I don't agree that the only thing that gives it away is the head fin, the face 'mask' and the general skinny nature of it make it look like a centurion.

Honestly though, the Centurion is not a great looking mech to start out with and I believe this iteration does it justice without having to rely completely on the old look of the mech.

It does look like a mini black knight, but I don't feel that detracts from it nor makes it in any way less like what a Centurion should be.

Vastly superior to the old imaging of this Mech.

Great re-design!
Honestly I'm a huge fan of Flyingdebris, but that's another reason I was so disappointed in all his redesigns for MWO, I just couldn't get what happened to the guy.. Final Atlas was OK, but wasn't the brightest of the concept list, same story with Dragon, but this time the final one doesn't speak to me at all, Jenner was kind of dull, Hunchback is pretty much ok, but imo Alex did better Hunchbacks back in the day, and finally Catapult is a disaster, it looks heavy, chunky and has no grace.

But finally I have hopes in further redesigns and in MWO's look)
First time I'm really pleased with MWO redesign and I must even say I'm totally overwhelmed with awesomeness of the new Centurion, which has always been one of my favorite mechs!
This concept gives us true machine power, yes, it has real heart, it is graceful and deadly! Way to go, Flyingdebris! If even a half of all the mechs in the end will be re-done this perfectly - I'm really happy for all the Battletech universe)

Wait, wait, wait... isn't the Centurion just a slow Dragon? One has 2 medium lasers, an AC/10, and a LRM10, the other has 2 medium lasers, an AC/5, and a LRM10. I guess the Centurion's only advantage is the "upgrade" from an AC/5 to an AC/10.

(I know the Centurion came first)
