Definitely a different take to the Centurion but I like it.

You can not have Battletech without this mech, The Centurion is part of the Fabric of the world of Battletech, with Yen-lo-Wang being modified Centurion passed down from Justin Allard to his son Kai, and the same mech being used by two diffrent Champions of Solaris. It can not be Battletech without the Centurion.

Also I have seen people in here mentioning that it does not look like an Anime mech, and it can not turn it's head like a gundum.... This is Battletech, not Gundum Wing. It is not supposed to look like an Anime mech, because it is not one.

I think this redesign is a bit too far from the Centurion look IMO. I love his art-work tho!
This one kinda reminded me of a Clint more. The AC 10 looks more Clint-ish as well as the armor. The original Centurion really emphasized angular armor. Also have to agree that the Centurion needs a neck.

Thanks for making this a GundamWarrior game, the vertical tank/simple/rugged purposefulness look is lost, the previous mechs were bad but now it's just a jumble of shapes just for the sake of looking complex, no real art direction, no separation in the looks of the mechs. I don't find the mechs "mech-ish" looking and to be honest it kinda ruins everything else for me.

Sorta like the redesign of the musclecars:
A good artist can redesign the mustang and not loose it's soul.
A bad artist comes up with the new Dodge Charger.

I woudn't of called it a Centurion if I didn't see the title.

And yes, I work in the industry.

I don't like it at all. It looks like evil bots from transformers. that's how centurion should look http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Centurion .

I always hated all 'robots' except 'Mechs because 'Mechs aren't 'robots' they are battle armor for a MechWarrior, just like armor for Knights in Middle Ages.

I don't like your artworks.

I bit my tongue for the last 5 mechs, so I'm sure many more did the same but I guess we have to voice our opinions now and it seems the majority agrees. We don't mind a redesign but so far the end result is far from that, to the point where you can't even tell what it is, except for the fact that it's more cheesy Gundam-esque than Mechwarrior.

lol don't you see devs are clearly making design for casual wide audience, for everyone, changing old school mech warrior designs to some visual images all people know 'robots' for. First they do that to make more money instead of pleasing real MechWarrior BattleTech fans and then they gonna switch orientation to consoles and release console port for pc after pc helped them to rebirth MechWarrior.

BS.

P.S. Of course I know that you never call 'Mech a robot (it's a different things) but all these newfags that they bring in will be doing it. think about it.

i doubt that a "majority agrees" with you. to compare the new designs with the look of gundam is not ok! if there are anime-influences (beside the fact, that the unseen mech-designs are 1 to 1 copys of anime-mechs), then this is not a bad thing. i realy dont like gundam but the mechadesigns for example of "front mission" or the anime-influenced designs of "heavy gear" are imho one of the best outhere in the moment. in the wide spectrum of anime or manga is a long tradition in creating mecha-designs.
i prefer the utilitarian and "realistic" military look of mechas. if it becomes too organic and candy-pop-like, like gundam, this is not my cup of tea .
my point is, if the new designs of the mechs in mwo, like the centution, wouldnt be influenced of the contemporary sci-fi look of cool, and deadly warmachines, you must do a kind of 80s retro. But when you want to do so, would it make any sense to work on a new mechwarrior-game in the year 2012?

I hope it will never come this far.

As I said: "It is okay to not like things..."

Personally I don't see what the big deal is? The Centurion is one of my all time favorites and I love this redesign. It has all of the parts that make a Centurion a Centurion. It has the cockpit that looks like a Roman helmet, it has the AC 10 arm, it has the left torso LRM rack. It has also fixed the lack of ankles from the original drawing. I like the broader feet design that would give the mech more stability. Its similar to his Dragon and the new Project Phoenix RIfleman. To me as long as the mech has the defining parts that makes it unique, then it can be called that mech. Different manufacturers as well as individual MechWarriors would have modified and changed many things on their mechs over the years, so there would not be one true standard for every mech out there.

Justin Xiang added a bigger AC to Yen Low Wang, as well as claws on the left arm. He would have removed the LRM rack as well which would have changed the overall shape of the torso.

In all there would be all kinds of variations of a particular Mech and I like this redesign, even if it does have some illogical things, it looks cool and that is good enough for me.

I love people being so divisive about turning heads. Mechs with turning heads have always been in btech since the very beginning, but I think what brought myself and a lot others to the table was that the heads themselves didn't look like gundam heads. I'm going avoid words like silly/goofy cause that's completely subjective. As one book about drawing mechs stated: "one key difference between east and west mecha is that eastern mecha have a humanoid face, western mechs - the metal plate is the face" that said, the original centurion head works because it's a brick on the shoulders with a window screen - very much function over form. Also the head on btech mechs adds more dynamism to the look and posing of said mechs, allowing more epic posing. Btech roots, the core of it, if you will was bringing mecha combat,
art, etc over to the west, part of that core is heads that can turn

just can't do that with the new design paradigm :/

Looking at all the design details from the old Cent that are actually present in the new Cent, I think the only thing that really bugs me is the claw-hand. That's what pushes it too far into the Cylon realm for me. The AC actually has a pretty big armor jacket around it; the barrel just sticks out past it a bit. Change the claw into a battle fist like the Hunchback or Atlas, and you'd have a much more brawler-looking mech, IMHO.

It's not that people like the original TRO more than the redesign, is that the redesign is too far off the original design.

I can't believe you read everything and you still didn't get it.

EDIT: First warning. Next warning is temp ban.

EDIT: You might want to check your eyes modman, I didn't post the picture I mentioned.

Is it just me... or do the foot units make it look like it is wearing four-legged stuffed animals for shoes?

You think we are comparing the actual TRO Artwork to this new one? Its the design we are talking about. The TRO drawing, as I stated in a previous post, is dirty and untidy. Its the DESIGN that we like. The general Aesthetic. The New PGI Drawing is is 100 times better then the original TRO Drawing, but those of us who like the old Centurion better like the actual Aesthetic Design of it better.

(Thanks CamoSpecs.com)

Again, I think this re-design is an awesome mech, just not a Centurion. Take off the fin on the head and you could probably call it a Redesigned Panther.
