"That other game" has player houses and guild halls. One has to buy a house/hall and then pay a property tax every month or the front door is locked.

Might this be a way to balance the economy of large player groups? The larger, more complex the Drop Ship the more expensive it is to maintain?

Even worse, multiple dropships with multiple maintenance bills.

a hot dropzone is a hot dropzone. wether you own the ship or not, odds are your getting stranded till its clear of OPFOR.

Gonna get me a Union and load it up with Urban Mechs then crash it into a planet.

None will stand before the tactical might of our crash landings and trashcans with legs.

i always liked the fortress dropship. It had a more military feel and look to it. a single long tom is only a single arty piece, but if it can help me secure my beach head then i love it.

Note the part in the variant with the date:

Variants
  • Upgrade - Projected to launch in 3058, this version of the Fortress replaces the normal heat sinks with fewer double heat sinks and uses the extra tonnage to greatly improve the weapons load and strengthen the internal structure of the Dropship. First, two AC/5s, four Medium Lasers and two SRM-6s were stripped out, making room for upgrading the PPCs to ER PPCs and adding Artemis IV to all the remaining missile launchers. Further, the Large Lasers were upgraded to ER and ten of the remaining Medium Lasers were upgraded to Medium Pulse Laser. Finally, to help round out the new weapons load, two Gauss Rifles were added to give the Dropship more long-range punch. Further, the engine was slightly upgraded to a more efficient drive and the structure of the ship was also reinforced, and the cargo capacity increased to 368 tons. BV (1.0) = 5,831 BV (2.0) = 6,072
Makes ya wonder, eh?

I cant wait for the time i can buy a drop ship of my own then i can really decide where my unit will strike next and what contracts i want to take.Until then we will be at the mercy of the faction houses for our bread and butter. But after we acquire the Cbills look out we can take a contract and strike anywhere for a profit or revenge.

Man would I throw my joystick across the room if we won a match, got huge salvage rights and then they launched a counter attack on our dropship just as it came down.

Merc Round Results: Win
xp - 534 (pilot) 234 (mech)
C$ - 10,232

Salvage 50 tons
worth (est) - 33,434C$

Repair Costs
Mech - 4544C$
Dropship - 2352353C$ (ARGH! lol!)

I'm giddy at the thought of being able to purchase and manage a fleet of dropships to help transport my unit.

Now... if only we could get a jumpship too!

After I played Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries I went for the pen and pencil rpg of Battletech because simply the other mechwarrior games that came after mercenaries just didn't live up to mercenaries. Anyway the point was while playing the pen/pencil rpg Battletech there were some features that would be good to add to Mechwarrior Online, pertaining to this topic. Besides using house assets and owning your own dropship (dare I say jumpship even) the third option is you could charter one from an NPC or another player :)

On the pencil/paper version my mercenary units (yes plural) didn't own any dropships or jumpships but relied soley on charter OR employer transport IF the contract negotiations went well or the contract wasn't from House Kurita (known for leaving mercs even their own units behind if it suited them).

If your group had their own drop ship to pick they could just plop it down at your starting point.

Hot dropping anyone ?

I'm gonna land feet first (even better if on top of something) and start shooting.
And screeam get to the drop ship when everything goes pear shape.

Hmmm ... a spherical shaped dropship, like the Union. It takes a fair amount of triangles to model this. I hope the PGI guys can get this optimized for CE3 so it performs well in game.

All I can say is "Player controlled Drops"

well I can say more.

McKools Cattle Raiders now offering by popular demand a "before Drop" Coffee Espresso and Latte Bar.
Remember Finn as your designated driver, always there for you, always sober.

and dont forget Free steak Dinner for those who make the ride home.

P.S. emptie coffee cans are available to take with on those extra long missions.

McKools will not be held responsible for burns acquired from spilled coffee during missions, Finn recommends you up grade your mech with anti-spill cupholders, Any accidents from bladder overfill or sudden release is the express responsibility of mech pilot.

Remember its a cruel universe out there.
