Buahahaha. I'll call my Black Knight, 'Monty Python'.

"'Tis but a flesh wound!"

Straight from the Black Knight entry in the 3039 TRO:
"In a one-on-one battle with another heavy BattleMech - assuming equally skilled Mechwarriors - conventional wisdom is that the Black Knight will always triumph."

I'd name my Atlas 'Fister' :)

Gonna jump a few years into the future, and name my Penetrator 'Sigmund.' (As in Sigmund Freud.)
Read that how you like.

This should be an option, even if it's a paid content option.

I would love to name my mechs!!!

That said... I'm going to feel sick if one of them goes critical and thus gets removed from the game in the blink of an eye.

I'll try not the call my Locust Fluffy .... but I have to call my Jenner The Saucy Jane; it's a (weird) tradition.

You might have missed it because it was up in General Discussion, but fusion engines do not go critical unless you make them. I Piranha puts that in the game I will be very disappointed.

That said, typically a 'Mech is unsalvageable if it's Center Torso location is destroyed.

That also said, I highly doubt that you'll lose your 'Mech in a random match. That doesn't speak to retaining any sort of userbase if their progress is wiped every time they lose.

Who wouldn't want to stomp around in an assault mech called Chairman of the Waterboard? I certainly would.

I certainly would enjoy this. Naming your Catapult "F5" and seeing someone erased from the battlefield by this mech seems like it would be Excellent =). I also reccomend a Full Filter (I absolutely dislike innapropriate names, utilizing curse words, and such, its unnecessary and vulgar).

Love the idea of naming a mech and giving more people attachment to their mechs.

I was talking with some friends, and we were thinking that, if 'Mechs that a player pilots are persistent and don't get replaced every game, then being able to name the machine would be an incredibly fun convention.

Naming my Awesome something like An Appeal to Reason would be ******* awesome.

EDIT: Specifically, naming it so anyone can see the name of that 'Mech. I realize there is some ambiguity on what 'naming' means.

In the event When I get my Timber Wolf, even though people will see "Timber Wolf Prime" as the chassis and variant, it would be nothing but beneficial to be able to give an internal name to your loadout. I really hope PGI supports such an ability. Having to memorize what variant HBK-4S is just isn't conducive to man such as myself with all my memory issues. :)

More than likely my 'Mech will bear the name 'Prominence', especially if it's an assault chassis.

IC: This 'Mech is my grandfather's. He named it Headache. With all the headaches I've had just trying to get it running again, I can see why.

I definitely approve of this idea.

Since I always end up in hopelessly unfair battles in these games, whether I try or not, I might as well name my mech Thunderchild :)

I'd just like to say if I run into any Black Knights with the variant name "Monty Python" I'm afraid I'll have to go straight for your arms and legs. It's just too obvious to pass up.

If we get Valkyries then mine shall be named "Pinkie Pie" :)

If the Ponies thread is any indication, I might have to name my Awesome the "Glue Maker."

Having personal names for mechs would be a great mechanic that might promote sentimentalism and incentivize pilots to appreciate and stick with what mechs they spend the most time piloting, instead of racing to get the best mech in the game. Definitely support this.

It would be really neat if the variant mod name would transmit under the base variant. i.e. once you can them enough to get the information on the model it'd list what the modification is called. Pure fluff, of course, but it'd be cool.

In all seriousness though, of course it'd be funny to screw with people and name your 'mech "ENERGY BOAT" and then bring autocannons.
