I know the feeling dude. I am stuck in a 1 bedroom house-share situation. As much as I'd love to have things like a Mech Pit, it will have to wait until I can afford a house of my own (if that day ever comes).

OH, you HAVE to do this... Build a sim pod and decorate it with an Elvis-theme. You could model it as Rhonda Snord's 'mech in Snord's Irregulars. She even used to have Elvis music playing through the external speakers during battles. Name the pod "The King" and tell the wife you'll let her drive it if she's a good girl.

Put the monitor back into the pit last night to fly some IL-2 1946 (HSFX 5.1) and then some "other" game. Working like a dream. I have not yet redone the console, etc. Still working out space/needs.

Thats cool i also want to build a mech cockpit but not as detailed as that...i want a joystick to my right, a throttle to my left, pedals (which will be for torso movement) and three monitors for playing

Hopefully MWO supports those periphals

Any tips on using a relay to power a pod?
Toggle switch wired to a tinsey on my PC to produce "Reactor online". While activating the pods overall power?

One thing comes to mind OS, you can set up a micro computer such as the Raspberry Pi http://www.raspberrypi.org/ which would allow you to power it on first and then flip the main power. The main switch would act as both a button to start an event on the Raspberry Pi and power up the main computer.

Update: The Thrustmaster MFDs and the 8" LCD monitor arrived yesterday. I have to say, these MFDs are TINY. I was expecting something a bit larger, not sure I can believe that they are 1:1 to the real deal, how could someone with thick heavy gloves on push the right button?

Because they are so small I am rethinking their use.

The 8" LCD is great, it is perfect for putting TS on while in game to keep track of who is coming and going. As I mentioned above, I may not use it behind the MFD as then I would restrict myself to a 4" screen rather than an 8". I need to think about this one for a while.....

Has anyone seen the 1990's battletech pod that was part of the battletech command centers used around the world. Once your in the cockpit it seals you inside for the duration of the game. Now that was fun. 1st place was Chicago. Others were around. Last one headed about was in 2006.
Wonder if any around still.

Have you referenced the mech simulator that came out in the 90's for inspiration? There was a set in Chicago that allowed the public for $7 a piece to climb in and duke it out in a variety of mechs..(Timber Wolf as by far the fav.), you even recieved a paper battlerom when you were done. I do love what you have done though !!

To help with combat this thread drift that seems to be happening, yes, the Tesla pods, (both I and II) are well known in these parts... now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Heh, believe it or not, they're dead on reproductions. Some of those F-16 and A-10 guys spend real money on their pits, and would have had Thrustmaster's head on a plate if they were off! The screen is actually 6" diagonally, but it is a square (radii in corners make it measure 5.625"...), so it takes an 8" 4:3 screen to completely fill the space without leaving a gap, but it wastes some pixel real estate. http://tinyurl.com/8wry32s <--youtube vid

Some use a 7" 16:9, but that yields a 1/2" gap on one of the sides: http://forum.virtual...opic.php?t=3096, and still wastes some screen, but no one makes cheap square screens due to economy of scale, and they are not very user friendly if you do find them.
