I'm completely floored and impressed at what you have produced in only a few months time. The dedication, the quality of your work..... absolutely amazing. Nice mechpod! It must be pretty awesome to play MechWarrior in there. I'm looking forward to seeing what the final product looks like!

I mean, I once built a bird house but unfortunately it wasnt up to code and the bird family that moved in was tragically killed when the roof caved in as a passing butterfly farted..... there were lawsuits...

Oh god, I haven't laughed that hard in some time, thank you!

Thanks for your kind comments, I look forward myself to seeing what this thing will turn out to be.

Hey, I know that platform, that's Roland van Roy's!

...my sailplane cockpit.

I posted Roland's fine work only to showcase the Sarrus hing lifts. My setup will only be similar in that the positions of the lifts and the hinge types are similar. The second setup, by Inmotionsimulations.com is closer to what my final product should look like.

Rolands Webpage showing his various builds:

Sailplane cockpit? Did you make the one with the vacuum cleaner motors and 6DOF? That thing is amazing....

As for electronics, thank you for your kind offer. I am not sure what I will go with as yet. That part of the build is another hobby all in it's own. I have a great deal to learn there. For now I have been following many build threads on x-simulator.de.

My mechpit does double duty for Mechs and Airplanes so I have access to code for Rise of Flight and IL-2 though x-sim.

Thanks Akatrio, I have been flying IL-2 HsFX and Mechwarrior Online in the pit already. All systems are, so far, green. ;)

Thanks Foust.

I have a question for you, I have found that once in a while when I press one button all of them will send a signal. This means that I will Alpha Strike when I only mean to fire one weapon. Have you come across this issue with the Teensy?

No I cant say I have, but I'm also not using it daily. (still on the protoboard, its shameful really)

If memory serves, you are running all push buttons on common ground correct? Are you binding the buttons to the joystick or are you running something like SVmapper?

That is a weird issue though. Do you notice if it is the same button you press when this happens?

The question that pops into my head is, "Do you have all of your diodes in the right way?" If you had one or more of them in backwards, it might allow a single button push to be detected as all of the buttons on that row or column of the matrix...

Foust, yes it is the joystick trigger. Not sure why it would also fire off the other three buttons (weapon bindings) but the others do not fire off an alpha strike.

CyBerkut, I am not using a matrix. But that is a good answer if I did.

Have you tried reassigning the trigger switch to a different pin on the teensy to see if the problem follows?

By the way, Prop, if you're adding motion to the pit, are you leaving the "core" in it? Just thought about this as I was reading last night but forgot to ask since not all parts of computers are shake-proof. I assume you're making it external once the motion set-up is in place, but thought I'd check.

Then again, I think - but am not certain - that a computer with only solid state drives, that doesn't use dvd / cd / blu ray, and no water cooling might not care if it moves around a bit.

Good question, I will probably set the PC remote from the mechpit. Some of the more violent maneuvers might cause problems with the electronics.

Who know though, I might just put this pit aside and build a completely new one for the motion platform. Not sure yet.

I would not go back to speakers only in gaming, transducers add sooo much to the immersion.

To be fair dude... good project. But do you have a girlfriend?

I mean you could turn that upside down and make a pretty good boat and take her out for a row on a lake.

Imagine this:

Jane "Hey Dave what shall we do today?"

Dave "Go in my Hunchback Cockpit... it's got three monitors"

OR

Jane "Hey Dave what shall we do today?"

Dave "Go in my boat on the boating lake... some wine, a picnic, the stars in the sky"

I'm okay, my GF loves Mechwarrior and I have a boat. (TRUE)

Actually I want that cockpit...

But then he cant play MWO epic wise!
Your arguments are invalid! ;)

Picture update:

Not really good pictures I am afraid, I need to work on taking pictures in the dark....maybe should have reconsidered the color for the inside of the Mechpit for this reason, lol.

Added several switch bays and plates. The plates are temporary until I decide what will be located in those places. The real reason I am going to completely replace these switch plates is that I turned the CNC table up to a high speed setting and then walked away...didnt notice how badly it was cutting at that speed until I popped them out of the waste frames. I like the white edges (hopefully they will glow along the edges with the backlighting that I have planned).

The whole set (I wasnt paying attention to the focus brackets when I took this, sorry).

I note you're running Windows 8 there Propnut. Sorry if you've mentioned this already, but MWO runs without an issue?

Hi repete,

No problems at all, IL-2, MWO and all my steam games work perfectly. It loads faster and I get better FPS over windows 7 (I had it loaded before going to Win8).

I did a test run to see if my CNC would do fine text at 1/4" of an inch. I painted several 24x24 panels using black Krylon (ok, actually really cheap Walmart spray paint that took a week to dry).

I used a 1/32 (1/8" shank) up-cut spiral bit set at 1/32 cut depth running at 10 inches per minute.

I was very disappointed in that it seemed that light did not shine through very well...then I remembered to peel the protective paper off the back...DoH!! ;)

Not perfect but unless you take close-up pictures you cannot tell.
