OSIS: Thank you, it helps.

Update:

These arrived today, they will be the devices that, when mated to the Teensy++2.0, will provide control of my battlemech. :)

you really think youre gonna use the rudder pedals? or is that for other sim games like IL2 and the like?

Rudder pedals are supported for MWOnline but I use TrackIR. I am going to add the rudder pedals in case full trackIR support comes out and I can then use it to look around the cockpit without disturbing my aim or movement. The rudder pedals were excellent to control torso movement in the older Mechwarrior games, I expect that they will be just as useful in MWO. :P

Yes, I will also be using the pit for Rise of Flight, and the other flight sims that I play (IL-2, DCS P51, etc).

I always used the torso twist on my joystick. I wanna do some other sims and will get pedals eventually I just dont see them working for me in this game. alas I see myself playing this game with a throttle and mouse unfortunately. immersion be damned i prefer to win.

really impressed with this build, cnc cut makes things look alot nicer, wish I had a cnc machine, got tons of ideas

also can your cnc machine do instrument panels?

only thing negative for me is it looks like you wont be able to have a very big/triple screen

If i was using Rudder pedals i would use them for turning the mech left or right NOT the torso twist

By the way keep it up. It looks great so far.

OSIS, it all depends on how much you practice I guess. Back in the MW (2-4) days the best pilots that I had come up against used the joystick rather than mouse. I got pretty good with it at one time as well (never top tier though...nor maybe mid, lol).

Urban: Yes, depending on what you want to use for the panel. I can cut wood (ply, solid, etc) aluminum, plexi, etc. I cannot cut steel.
I thought about designing it so the pit would accept three 24" monitors (eyefinity or Nvidia Surround) but to be honest after having eyefinity since it came out (before there were affordable adapters for the display port), I decided to go with one large monitor instead as I get great veiwing angle and I use trackIR whenever possible. TrackIR removes the need for a super-wide viewing angle.

My desktop has three monitors but they are not in surround, I use a Dell 30" IPS 2560x1600 in the center and two 22" 1050x1680 (portrait mode) on the sides. I had three 22" monitors in Eyefinity for a long time.

I didnt play multiplayer mw until 4. everyone hates on 4 but it was the easiest to access for multiplayer. plus when I started with mw2 mercs I was only 8 and dumb. I used my joystick in 4 I tried it in the beta didnt care for it. the mouse was way more precise. not telling you what to do just relaying my experience so far :P

I have built a dozen or more Freetrack systems for people over the years. Including my first and second headtracking systems. It works great if you like to tinker.

cant to see what this is going to turn out like it seems great so far!

If i was in your place tough i would use those pedals to control the turning of the mech (legs) and keep the torso rotation and all that on the joystick and the trottle on my left hand (thats just me its your build you do it your way)

Glad you plan on rewiring the HOTAS, great sticks at the time but they had some issues with the Pots and chip (there was a 3rd party rework to clean up all the spiking from the pots at the time).
I'll be watching the thread for status.

I am impressed and amused at the same time. "Honey I'm just ducking out the shed to build a Mechwarrior, don't expect me back ever."

If I were to try to build a Mechwarrior my wife is exactly the person that I would turn to for help; she has a PhD in genetics. But, since I am building a Battlemech cockpit, I do not need her help, lol. :)

I removed the electronic board from the throttle and wired everything direct. I did test the pots last night and they seemed to be functioning perfectly. I have a suspicion that the issues that these controllers had (stock) was, as you alluded to, were the fault of the electonic hardware rather than the pots themselves.
