LOL. It will not be pop for me though. Usually anything hardcore from rap to industrial is my preferred battle soundtrack.

A mix of classic and... whatever else is in there, although the singing past 0:40 is just an unfortunate snip of what they have done to C&C...
(I had to put my other favorite sci-fi universe in here!)

I think you pretty much got the perfect option there. TSFH, or others with similar experience making lots of shorter (and some longer) tracks for every imaginable cinematic score, would be an excellent choice, especially if the devs choose to throw in any sort of adaptive in-game music.

Instead, I'd like to see more thematic music. Bear McCreary(sp?) did it well with the Battlestar soundtrack, and the same was accomplished well in Mechcommander 1's soundtrack as well. Ace Combat soundtracks are another good example. In the context of mechwarrior, the 'western' FedCom would go well with bagpipes and wardrums, whereas the Draconis Combine or Capellan would go with more ethnic woodwind instruments and maybe the odd tribal flavour in order to make seem more 'alien'. On top of those 'specific' flavours, conventional instruments can be used to drown out the 'faction-specific musical motifs' given the context. For example, a menu/briefing screen would be more somber and the specific motif would be more pronounced, but in more intense gameplay, the motif would instead be supplanted by conventional instruments (brass, drums, and then MAYBE guitar/metal) in order to not be overstated/obnoxious. Also, drum and bass.
maybe I'm looking too much into this. I'm no music expert, but I'm a huge composition nerd.

Don't really care that much about the tracks, if I dont' like them I'll just shut off the music and play my own instead (that's an option that I certainly hope is available)
I would like to hear Tombo drums as the Draconis Combine marches to war...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a good soundtrack, but it is not worth the effort with all of the chances players have to play what music they like over the particular music offered in-game.
