I hate to break it to you guys, but canonically, twangy country or bluegrass-type music is by far the most common music.
Bring on the banjos.

The game could benefit from an in-game custom music application. Give us the option to import whatever tunes we have on our hard drive, and let us handle selecting, pausing, or skipping tracks with a little screen built into the cockpit. This makes it more immersive, and we don't have to alt-tab each time we want to adjust something. It might be a bit late to request this, though.

I definitely wouldn't mind hearing something like the Terran music:
That is an excellent combination of country, rock, metal, and even synthetic sound. Truly a classic track.

Finally, PGI needs to be careful about the music they choose. A good soundtrack can greatly enhance a game (Ex.: Hotline Miami) while a bad one leaves a bad taste in your mouth (read: SC2 terran Theme

The first thing they need to do is to get rid of the generic soft/heavy track they use for their advertising...

Because a bunch of 2 minute electronic tribal twinkle tracks on repeat is totally awesome! Those synthesizers sure sound great! How many voices did they have back then? One? One and a half? I'm surprised there aren't helicopter or gunshot sounds featured all the way from sound bank 99! Here's a track from the Descent 2 soundtrack, listen to it and understand how to score an atmospheric game.
Here's another, observe how the track actually has, like, progression in it.
