I would actually like to hear some cool ambient / Atmospheric soundtracks as I stomp around. Things that can stay classic and not just be a fad. It is a good point about this being online, so I to wonder about the music choices even being an offering... a custom music library would be welcome as it would solve everyone different tastes for music.

One of my personal favorites would be alot of the Homeworld 2 music. Great neutral background music that does set you in the universe it occurs in. Used alot of great instruments and vocals.

Or it would be awesome if they can mix up what people are usually expecting in sci fi music... Maybe mixing up genre a bit?

Given the popularity and importance of this subject I think it would be great if a poll could be added to this thread. Though there does seem to a general lean toward the musical styles of the MW2 games.

Agreed with Morquedeas with the poll thing, not as a decider of what music should be incorporated but just to see what people think and maybe take into consideration. But bottom-line which has been said in some of the past posts (including me B))... MW2 and MW2: Mercs' music was spot on, as close to perfect as can be. If they could somehow manage to recreate such sounds setting the mood for each scene/situation, while still maintaining originality and quality just like the 2 latter predecessors achieved, all the better.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they copy/pasted the soundtracks from MW2 and MW2: Mercs. Who could blame them ;)

Jeehun Hwang. Even my mother borrows my MW2 CD to listen to his music.

I don't know if it was said so far, but I'd offer Stuttershark or Shutterspark or whatever the hell it was from Vengeance

It's exciting to see other people remember the MW2, GBL and MW2/M OSTs so fondly. I remember coming home from school and putting the CD-ROM into the stereo, skipping the data track before the player had a chance to give an error message and making myself snacks to eat. Of course I played the game through countless times too. Those memories are why I'm looking forward to this game almost 20 years later.

I'd love to hear homage paid to the old tracks in this title. Judging by the music in the hot drop trailer I think it's likely. I never played any games past MW2 Mercs. Am I missing out, musically or otherwise?

That, or maybe get some Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts going... :)

Fixed for spelling!

Origa singing some of Yoko Kanno's work, you all might know this:

Music doesn't matter at all, no matter what game I play I always turn the music off. If I want to hear music I can stream my pandora radio station, that I way I only hear the music I want to hear.

Jeehun Hwang did music for the Naruto animated series I'm pretty sure, my buddy was watching an episode and a Mechwarrior 2 track was playing in the show. I immediately recognized it. It would be kind of cool if they could get some of the old composers to do a couple new tracks each.

I'll probably turn the music off so I can hear my lance/company mates more clearly. Plus there's no music following you around during your life, changing when you get into a fight or something crazy happens. For me music ruins the realism there for immersion of games. I usually turn it off, skyrim's been the only exception recently.

Music is not a good investment for a modern multi-player title. Sorry guys! The game will undoubtedly have music, but I can say with almost 100% certainty that PGI will not be tossing in any extra members to do specifically music. The guy who does their sound design will ultimately be the one who does their music, if not that, then someone else on the team with creative intrigue.

Most players will just turn it off so they can listen to other music or hear the game better.

Whoever suggested FreeSpace-style music and Bear McCreary-theme based motifs, I agree with both. I'd want something that sounds very FreeSpacey but using MechCommander themes. And having a contemporary re-scoring of Umber Wall from MechWarrior 2 that fits with whatever-style-the-composers-choose. Here's an example of FreeSpace 2's soundtrack:

As you can tell, it's war-like, and it also has a sense of wonder and mystery. Kinda like preparing for war. I don't expect the developers to use the most professional composers in the industry, but as long as they can get someone that can make MWO's music feel more "BattleTech" (preferably by incorporating motifs of existing BattleTech games), I'll accept it. As a listener of in-game music, it'd be something to appreciate.

EDIT: By the way, FreeSpace 2 also has music that changes depending on the environment. Here's an example of a battle soundtrack in the game.

I'm going to give a boring opinion here but as long as the music can be muted I'll be fine. I don't want it to interfere with Comms.

Yeah, MW2's music had a relaxing effect on my as well. Doubt we'll ever get that feeling back in this game.

Regardless of what music they have at release, I would love to have an updated game soundtrack once the Clans arrive.

I'll be honest, the trailer music wasn't the greatest.
What we really need is Mechassault 2 Metal. THAT is some bad *** music right there.
http://youtu.be/oA43PO1Td3U?t=5s

But we're really looking for menu music here, so MA2 once again has the solution- it's menu music is perfect.
I would also accept Menu music like Freelancer.

First thing I do in a new game is to turn of the music. So I don't really care about the soundtrack for MWO.
