Thing is L'zard... the paper is not about MWO... it's about the F2P business model.

That's what's great about gaming. Now, your being overweight and having ripe B.O. will be hidden behind the anonymity of the internet! You're gonna get picked last for a legitimate reason now! A severe lack of skill!

Isn't technology great?

Whoa there! I am not overweight. I shower every day. I use deoderant and even have a girlfriend.

I do lack skill though.

Sigh.

(Although maybe my lack of skill as a brawler will let me shine in one of the many other roles optioned by The New Mechwarrior Style. I can see my self being an excellent medium pilot or heavy fire support. even commander, for example...There really is only one way to find out...)

Awww, come on man, you know I'm just messing with ya. :D

We only get better at the game through trial and error. We're all going into this game with equal levels of inexperience.

I believe he was commenting on your recent promotion to ministry of misinformation status.

I enjoy reading papers, it allows people at work to think I'm actually doing something more than just reading this forum.

I don't support the idea of an MVP system. The problem I see is that military units don't have MVPs, that's for sports teams. A unit is only as strong as it's weakest member, so the weakest member has to be trained up and made stronger. In that sense, the Least Valuable Player is more important to the unit's overall success than the Most Valuable Player.

I'd support team rankings over individual rankings.

The problem with MVPing and scores in MOST games is it encourages people to decide for themselves that a course of action is for the best even when it actually hurts the team or goes against what the commander has outline in their battleplan or even has specificaly said "DO NOT DO THIS" all because it makes a number that they get to see after the battle bigger. They then feel they can turn around to whoever they were playing with and say something like "See I Know what I am doing nubs" as if that number somehow justified the stupid thing they did or were doing the whole time that just cost us a match.

(This happens all the time in LoL "I has high K/D/A ratio therefore I can't have been doing something wrong")

Oh, right, I'd totally accept something I haven't read the fine print on and sign over my firstborn to Paul. And if you really believe that, I got here an excellent vacuum cleaner I could also sell you... :P

What the...? You can't be a true nerd... errr... MechWarrior then, GTFO! Those live only for the adrenaline rush of the battle and to become trolled by Paul! (j/k)

And don't get me wrong people... I'm only showing you a possible calculation for determining MVP without the need to vote... and to squash Aegis' claim that you can't come up with such an equation. HA! Take THAT!

So this was just a ruse to get the input for balancing equations for matchmaking from your community? In the hope you could outsource that part of development without having to hire someone for it? Sneaky, I'll give you that, but... you seriously expect this community to be able to agree on one MVP model? Heck, you usually ask 4 members here and get 5+ different answers! :P

Of course, this could also be a clever play at reverse psychology in the expectation that people will start writing up papers to address exactly that problem (and to prove Aegis wrong, heh). And then send them in droves to PGI's mailbox.

Or we just got trolled again out of the kindness of the heart of a certain dev to keep us distracted from yet another thread about light Mechs with integrated teleporting Tech... B)

What is it to be this time, decisions, decisions...

OK,

To Clarify a few things:
1. My idea for an MVP is meant to be an arbitrary award presented by the computer to award good play.
2. I never meant it had to be a BIG reward. Even just a minor one would suffice. (Medals and Promotions?)
3. Call it whatever you want: MVP is just the term I took from the Battletech sourcebooks for a campaign style play award for best player. It was usually awarded by the enemy player(s) for ANY reason they wanted.
4. As I said, I would leave the details up to the designers if they even wanted to implement such an award. However, if I had to suggest such things, I would suggest possibly using % damage dealt, % damage taken, survival, total kills, and other certain factors such as aiding a shot (a scout would earn points for designating a target that a sniper would shoot), etc... These are just my opinions however and I have no idea how reasonable or complicated adding such a system could be, or if it is even possible.
5. Another aspect of MVPs, is that it would favor Lone Wolf (non-faction) players slight more IMHO.

:P

I would like to see a history of all the matches i was in and battles i ever took place in. also who was there and which team won. what their end game scores were. i think that would be cool. because if our stats of our games just continue to stack on us people may not want us on their team or in their clan just because of our k/d ratio. Its no fun to be the last picked or not picked at all for the basketball game if you know where i'm going with that.
