hello, i am a massive fan of battle tech fan, ever seance playing mech warrior 2, as well as possible a battle tech game on the snes. thou that was a long time ago, and while i am still a fan of this series, as i own almost every mech warrior besides mech warrior the original. i am sadden by the way you are taking it, i am not a pvp gamer and i am just sadden to see this series become in essence world of tanks. i do not think farming for credits to get a good mech is fun, nore do i think getting killed over and over is fun either. and while i do support a game that have both great single player, and as well multiplier options, this just seems like a cop out. when i saw the trailer back a long long time ago, i was so thrilled. it spooked to me about a war that somehow went bad, i heard cry of allies being demolished, and was facing a new foe in a new war. there was such a glimmer of hope to that. but now all story elements are gone, and left is just a pvp mech simulator. no charters i get to fight, no boss battles and no story to keep me going on. just mindless pvp without any point to it. besides to go hey i got the best mech and look i am high on the score Bord. but to be blunt is just sickens me that you would throw away any and all story elements, which i loved from the past games even thou they that great, i still enjoyed it. i just have to ask why did you turn mech warrior franchise into the new world of tanks.

Because they can. Quite simple.

And it promises to make the most profit.

If this makes a lot of money you never know - they might make a single player game as well.

I think the original video was about making a single player game but they could nto find the backing for it? I could be wrong.

This is a sustainable model as a business venture where one off big budget titles might be way more risky with the BT universe not being that well known compared to many others even if the fans are really fanatical.

The heart of Battletech is PVP and 'Mech customization. You test your designs, tactics, and skill against other people. This game is really a return to the roots of the franchise in many ways.

i agree with Asmudius here. While, we, the rabid fan base, will hate to and most likely rarely admit it, it is a little known game universe, and they gotta minimize the risk to the company, and going F2P is a good way to do. Saves on production costs, of making discs, printing out even minimal manuals, boxes, shipping costs and so on.

accept this for what it is, and be glad the devs aren't trying to sell you a load of bull in the process; highly customizable stompy robots in an endless mission to blow the snot out of each other. which is damn near geek heaven if you ask me. if they could somehow make this into a persistent online world with a strong narrative, oh god i might never see the sun again.

and there are going to be some story elements in play, factions will be fighting to take or defend key points for their houses, and planetary control will yield bonuses and rewards that will probably go beyond simpley "we gotz uz a planetz, we'z gonna rol in the d'oh naow!"

Are you really complaining to PGI for giving us an all new revamped Crysis Engine 3 FREE mech game. If you hate the model you are clearly entitled not to play it. As someone who both loves and hates World of Tanks I'm very much looking forward to MWO.

Sorry for sounding a bit hard as we are all huge fanboys here, but really.

I'll refrain from just saying something like "go cry more". And put some meat to a reply. First of all, I would like to argue 'Mindless PVP' has more of a point to it than 'Mindless Singleplayer' (side stepping the fact that you can argue all computer games are pointless, or certainly objectionable). Singleplayer campaigns are a liner experience which will only greet you with end credits on completion, sound kind pointless don't you think? Sure you might of enjoyed it, but it is pointless non the less. Now think of it like this. A PVP multiplayer experience in a persistent Inner Sphere, where your action resonate in the game world and effect other people. You can't do that in a single player game. Also, fighting AI computer opponents are bland at best, stupid and immersion braking at worst. Human players are unpredictable and present a challenge.

PVP is exciting because you know it's going to be, in most cases more difficult that fighting AI or scripted situation in a single player game. There are more consequences to your actions. I'd like to add that when I used to play MW4 in NBT League my adrenaline would be pumping around my body like a crack addict. It's super awesome experience, I've never had that from single player games.

Like all games and sports, playing with other people is, if not required, a lot more fun. Playing tennis on your own, or soccer by hitting a ball against the wall is not very challenging. But add another person, and it changes the dynamic. Singe player games can certainly be fun, but they are really expensive to make for very little bang for your buck. $60 gets you maybe 20-40 hours of gameplay if your lucky. But MWO being a F2P game can probably give you endless amounts of hours of enjoyment for very little investment.

i second most of this, though (like most people) i'm strongly hoping for an intelligent, considerate player base. one of the most hurtful things i ever came across in a game is when i was trying out a new shaman build in WoW for the first time with a PUG and someone made the comment "he's doing about 14% of the damage in this dungeon, he does know he's supposed to be in the DPS role, right?"

You speak like we have been playing this game for a long time. The game is not yet out of closed beta yet. People on forums speculate and relate things to what they know. So far everything I read makes it read out to seem like Multiplayer Battletech 3025 to me. Perhaps you have played WoT and got burned out on it I cannot blame you for thinking this may end up just like that game with mechs. Many games like to take a working model and emulate that. I say give it a chance it might surprise you. It is free to play and shouldn't kill you financially to try it. Best of luck to you sir I hope that WoT did not ruin this game for you.

I'm afraid being a total WOW n00bie, I don't actually know if that is good or bad, I'm assuming bad? :) But, yeah people are people, and the idea that the 'internet is a shield' makes people act in ways they maybe would not in real life. Even in competitive sports, some people are arsehats, it's just a fact of life. I'm not trying to quantify that it's any less hurtful and totally unnecessary. Making people feel horrible in game, regardless of level of play is not nice, and pretty pointless.

DPS roles in wow should be doing at minimum 50% or better of the damage in a dungeon, so yes, 14% was extremly bad, but the comment was made without taking into consideration that *i* might have been a noob to dungeon raids and the like. i'm a little slow paced when it comes to gaming, and if a PUG i'm with is a *rush and slay all that moves' type group, i tend to fall behind and then it looks bad on me for being a noob or worse, an *****, while for me, i find it sad that raiders would assume that anyone they pick up will automatically be just as leet as they are.

what the heck? i di ot is censored? but...but why??

I always told my DPS's when I was a tank: You bloody pull off me, its YOUR problem. My ONLY concern is the safety of our healer. You are on your own. I always laughed when they did not take me seriously and wouldnt stay below MY aggro threshold. As a DPS, I always made bloody well certain I stayed below the aggro threshold of my tanks, which usually meant a down tweak to my gear sometimes. What can I say, demon lock at your service. or, used to be lol
