Now, I know that the upgrade trees in DevBlog 4 are just possible examples of what we may be looking at, but was I the only one who freaked out when they saw Charging listed as a possible skill? The effects of charging 60-tons of running 'Mech into something smaller than you is something from the TT I sorely missed in the previous MW titles.

I think it would be great. It happened a lot in the novels. But I think unless the mech has hands or melee weapons then no.

ALPHA STRIKE + CHARGE = DEATH

I don't understand why Charging is something we would use a skill point on. Full Throttle and go, ta-da :o

Charging causes damage to both 'Mechs. You spend a point so that when you charge, your own 'Mech takes less damage than normal.

No I read that, I'm just very pro-canon. I'm not sure what skill you would have that would enable you to actually take less damage in the Battletech universe. Perhaps torso turning or such to take damage in a different area? But the less damage thing *shrug* I'll go with it I guess.

Skill check to avoid falling or getting tangled in the other mech to avoid damage.

Freaked? Oh yes. But we don't charge with sixty tons, we charge with EIGHTY.

this was a very happy posting for me. light mechs will pay for trying to body block heavies in tight streets.

I would think that there would be a difference between simply ramming an opponent ("full-throttle and go") and a charging attack (probably something like a body check, where there are "right" and "wrong" ways to do it - the right ways minimize damage to the attacking 'Mech, and the wrong ways don't).

Your thoughts?

60 tons? 80 tons? bah, 30 tons is all you need.

After all if you get charged by an urbanmech, you're best off just running. Either he's a psychopath or extremely good at charges in an urbanmech, and either way you don't want to be close to him.

Any light mech that tries to go toe to toe with a heavy in urban deserves what it gets.

Dear lord, that reminds me. Had a custom Charger I used to run in TT: Maxed out armor, XL engine to keep the speed at 86.4 km/h, endo steel, slapped a MASC on it, and just ran things over. I think it had something like 10 hex charge with the MASC engaged, called it the Sledgehammer.

My opinion is that Charging isn't worth a skill point in Assault tree, as Palading Brewer said, full throttle is all you need to charge, hypotetical damage reduction is f...ing RPG. I would like to see some similar skill, let's say 'Kicking skill', which would really require some pilots mastery to implement (something like warrior Joanna from Jade Falcons mastered). Such a talant is of better use, 'cause it allows to throw down your opponent in critical situation and finish him with shots.

i would prefer the Berserker with MASC and TSM! A 40dmg Hatchet to one location with shooting is way more sexy
than 80dmg clustered, no weapon fire, a good chance of not even reaching your target and taking dmg myself.

I assume you have a lot of experience with charging? You do realize that on a collision, the same amount of energy is transferred to both bodies (mechs, in this case). In such case it's up to the attacker to position their body in such a way to minimize the damage, so that it becomes a tackle, not a crash.

Also, the pilot being used to ramming may have better control over the mech's balance through the neurohelmet, so that he doesn't fall prone with the enemy.
