Why don't parents hit their kids anymore? Sad times we live in...

People dont hit their kids because its wrong, and nothing good even comes from it.
Only sick people hit their kids.

Third person and recorded battles put a lot of extra strain on the engine and the servers. Considering the focus of this game is massively multiplayer first person battles I don't see either of these becoming options.

Really? Who defines what's wrong and what's right? You, society, ethics? Is there a difference if you hit your kid on butt or in the face? Are people who yell at kids any better? I think it's up to each one individually how to raise their kids. Keep your educational advises for yourself.

@Mod: Close that topic already! :)

Last I checked there was laws that defined these things.

It wont strain servers at all if done like many other similar system. Your client is the one that records things based on normal output coming from server and your client.

IOW recorder dont "record" things per se. It just logs things like mech position, time, XYZ, etc and just recreates simulation based on that data when you play your "recording".

I'd beat my kids...but only if I can do it in the third person view.
I still think a third person shot of a lance after action, especially with this engine, could lead to some awesome screenshots.

HLA and FFP is good, its more realistic.

MW4 Veng without FFP was not for JJ snipe.
MW4 Mercs without FFP is for JJ snipe.

wait and see about MWO in the futur ????

There's propably tons of similar topics and i udnerstand what an issue this is. First of all, I'm a big fan of the 3rd person view to view my mech from time to time, it helps the immersion dramaticaly. On the other hand, i know that playing the game in this camera would mean a lot of refinement and work from the side of the developers. However there could be a solution if the 3rd person view would be available only when there's no visible enemy mechs in your range. Another idea which i would love to see is a recording option. This would add a lot in immersion. :) View your approach after the battle, zoom the camer freely etc. What do you guys think?

The only bone I would expect them to throw you is third person view spectator vision; which would actually be nice. I'd love to get a better seat on the action if I'm already dead.

And what is to prevent you from telling the guy you are watching what is around the corner of that building or behind that hill then?
Making it so dead players cant use ingame chat is pointless, as there are plenty of 3rd party VOIP around that many will be using to communicate.

It would be nice in spectator mode, but I dont see that happening for just this reason.

If the camera direction is locked behind the Mech then you can't exactly use it for this purpose. It would also come without the ability to zoom. You worry about something incredibly minor and would have almost no impact on combat.

I said hit their kids, as in for discipline, not to sadistically beat them into a psychosis. Also, if you are going to reply to me like that, you should have incorporated the previous paragraph as well since it explains why I said what I said. Kids that aren't properly disciplined end up being spoiled brats. End of story.

Allow 3rd person view during play- but only with the HUD completely shut off. and no view of objects that couldnt be scene from 1st person view.

I'd expect a high tech unit like a mech to be able to store a 3d view of the map and allow virtual viewing of the map and itself, but no magic views of things it wouldn't see normally.

Also maybe make it a module that you have to install (Commander path)

It is absolutely core to Mechwarrior Online that you play it from the cockpit. I just got my beta invite and so glad about it. I have no idea yet, but mechs REALLY should vary from cockpit to cockpit so others can provide more visibility while others, heavier and more armored - specially in the head division - give more obstructed view.

After you are out from the game, there could be option for a locked 3rd person camera that allows some jumping between own team. Possibly even free roam camera where you could only see the targets that are spotted from someone from your team.

NDA breach. As regards 3rd Person, you're right though. We're in a cockpit and barring the use of drones and aerospace assets, we have no way to see what isn't in our line of sight.

I suspect this might not be too hard to implement. Just raytrace from the cockpit viewscreens and anywhere a camera sensor is mounted and simply do not render anything that the rays don't touch.

AKA, don't render what can't be seen by the pilot from the cockpit via the viewscreens and the sensor readouts in the cockpit.

You didn't understand my point of view. I don't want to battle in the 3rd person mode. I want to check out my mech, feel its presence and admire it in different angles. I understand that its very difficult to implement in a multiplayer mode and i fully agree that it would bring unfair game elements. I dont want an arcade shooter ! i always loved mechwarrior as a sim. Im just missing the external cam for viewing my admirable battle machine

A better idea then might be simply having a viewing mode while in the mech lab. Maybe have the mech walk forward a small ways so we can see it in motion as well as get a better view of it from behind. Add this to the future implementation of the customizable paint schemes and I'd personally be happy.

i think common sense and rational ethics is a universal thing. don't try to hide behind cultural relativism. hitting a vulnerable, defenseless child isn't what any intelligent, thinking person does. anyone who hits their kid is too ethically backward and lazy to properly raise them, and likely grew up in a household where they constantly got beaten as well. it's a vicious cycle of stupidity.

DOES NOT COMPUTE.

So getting mechs snagged repeatedly on a rock or building you can't see from the viewport does compute?
