i can understand the want for a 3rd person view...... but one has to be patient for sutch things...... dont you see the beautiful cockpit for you to look at? you also neaver got to see your arms and legs on the cockpit either....
back in the day.I dont know im just sayin thats all. Im just gona be happy when i can finaly be straped into the mech i was ment to pilot the vulture! now thats what i call an omni mech!

Ofcourse no one would ever use a 3rd person view to ..oh say maybe look over
a hill or maybe look around a corner. You are a mech pilot not the mech itself,
3rd person in mw is cheesy at best and should be left to consoles.

good point i never thought of it that way hears a cookie for you ;D they might do it any way its just gona be a long time befor it happens

If you want 3rd person view, go buy mechassault and stop wasting time with stupid and pointless suggestions. This is meant to be a battlemech simulator not a sniper noscope fest.

Personally I hope they make this game much more hardcore so the people that keep suggesting 3rd person will leave and go play something else. I've found that the more hardcore PC the game is, the better the battles, strategy and intelligence involved in tactics. Overall this would improve the game considerably. Plus it would cut down on all the whining that seems prevelent in the game.

Moan and ***** about this stuff and its obviously a BETA. You are PAYING the DEVELOPER to TEST their game. Nothing else. 3rd person view is not an option so enough asking for it.

still seems a little strange to me that in a world with with drop ships and satellite imaging, being able to see around a corner is considered unfair advantage. just my opinion, it will not change. if you can't see what is over a building with all this technology then ok even though it is obsurd il agree no 3rd person, but il reiterate the fact that it is mighty strange that in the year 3049 with a space faring human race, they have not figured out how to see over the top of a building or around a corner o.o
i can understand its a simulator and the hardcore FOV fans will not use 3rd person even if it were there but there must be way to cater for both, il give you an example..
say your standing there and trying to peek around the corner, why not have it so that you can not see if there is a person or not! like a blind spot, not just black screen of course, but you think it looks clear but only because your sensors are being fooled, as soon as you come around that corner the mech appears on radar, that will stop any unfair advantage. the sensors would work as though your in FOV even though your in 3rd person.
i think there has to be a compromise instead of people just saying NO STUFF YOU! after all the more people that are happy with the game, the more people play and therefore the more varied and colourful the game.
you cant just say to people your in the minority therefore your wrong, you must comply, or the world would be like a borg cube. diversity is what creates games like mechwarrior in the first place so try to keep an open mind and compromise if possible! :D

you dont get it in mw4 they had that where you were in 3rd person view and couldent see mechs around corners. the fact is this if you can see your mech and a wider view of whats around you. that alone is a tactical advantige when i played mw1 and mw2 they dident have 3rd person view it was a very dificult game to play at the time the point some plp are trying to make here is that 3rd person is not needed and is not a priority with this game you should be more concerned with how smoothley this game runs instead of what view you can see. its not like its gona improve how your mech moves or anything like that or make it easyer for you? dont get me wrong like i said before your probubaly gona get your wish only cause so many plp want it. i just dont think you should be concerned with it now and i think this topic should die out like all freeborn scum, just an opinion ;D let the flamming begin!!!

That's because of 2 reasons:

1st: They also suffered a technological amnestia, like people of Warhammer40k, or even real people (ancient ages with steam power [only as a toy] and advanced understanding of human body to an age of splitting one's skull apart to help him with his sneezing).

2nd: They are constantly at war, so "time is money" applies even more. Why develop an expensive and a lot of time taking thing like camera, if I can easily smash through the damn building? :D

yeah i agree with you on the point you make about prioritising, i only join the discussion because its a hot topic, and if nobody says anything until the games comes out it will be too late. also i have posted on a number of other topics, this is not the only topic im commenting on just caught my eye as i am a fan of 3rd person as you might have guessed! :D

ok not to be an arse but it would hardly be high tech, expensive or a waste of time if they simply use the trick all armies use today...
get a stick and tape a mirror to the end.... or use a combat knife like they do in the films. check mate!!
i would love to see an atlas crouching behind a building peeking round the corner with some ones dressing table mirror welded to the end of a piece of railing or something! :D

To be clear: it is not an "Unfair" advantage. It would only be an unfair advantage if one player could do it while another could not. However, I still agree that it shouldn't be available during play, because of immersion. Battlerecorder, otoh...

When one of the main tactics within the BT universe for destroying an LRM boat is having a light mech either sneak around and spot it for you or sneak right in behind it and attack its rear end, yes, a 3rd person view creates balance issues. In addition to that, the OP mentioned it as being more immersive even tho its unrealistic to have an invisible magic camera flying around behind you that lets you watch your own rear end.
As for just being able to check out what a mech looks like from all the angles and such, that would be nice in the mechlab, even tho right now all youd have to look at is default models and paint jobs.

No, no, no, no

Why do people keep asking for this? Did they really thing games like Mech Assault were good (I remain committed to burning every copy of that game I come across, and its sequel too).

This is a mech simulation game, not metal gear solid or other tripe console shooter type games. Not only would it break game balance with certain mechs, it would also break the fundamental 'simulation' design style.

I never remember people anyone asking for 3rd person modes in other competitive FPS games, why does the inclusion of giant mechs somehow make 3rd person mode 'ok'

Stop asking for it

We are all tired of this. I remember the days when only adults with well-earning jobs had cell phones... Now every rotten brat feels entitled to instant gratification. Why don't parents hit their kids anymore? Sad times we live in...

People dont hit their kids because its wrong, and nothing good even comes from it.
Only sick people hit their kids.

Really? Who defines what's wrong and what's right? You, society, ethics? Is there a difference if you hit your kid on butt or in the face? Are people who yell at kids any better? I think it's up to each one individually how to raise their kids. Keep your educational advises for yourself.

@Mod: Close that topic already! :D

Given all of the discussion of corporal punishment...

Posted Image
Aqua represents "countries that have explicitly abolished all forms of corporal punishment of children".

Posted Image
Fuchsia represents "countries with judicial corporal punishment".

Posted Image
Green represents "corporal punishment prohibited in schools and the home".
Blue represents "corporal punishment prohibited in schools only".
Red(?) represents "corporal punishment not prohibited".

Posted Image
Blue represents "corporal punishment prohibited in schools only".
Red represents "corporal punishment not prohibited in schools or in the home".

"Corporal punishment of minors within domestic settings is lawful in all 50 of the United States and, according to a 2000 survey, is widely approved by parents. It has been officially outlawed in 32 countries.

Corporal punishment in school has been outlawed in Canada, Kenya, Korea, South Africa, New Zealand and nearly all of Europe except France. It remains legal in some parts of the world, including 19 states of the USA.

Judicial corporal punishment has virtually disappeared from the western world but remains in force in many parts of Africa and Asia."

According to the aforementioned survey:
"The report, which was issued by Zero to Three, a nonprofit child development organization, in conjunction with the nonprofit Civitas, and Brio, the toy maker, is based on interviews with 3,000 adults, including 1,066 parents of children under the age of six. Sixty-one percent of all respondents felt regular spanking was an acceptable form of punishment. Even more surprising, thirty-seven percent of parents of young children believe it's acceptable to spank children younger than two. And as a corollary befitting the old adage 'spare the rod, spoil the child,' fifty-six percent believe a 6-month old baby can be spoiled by too much attention."

Your thoughts?

Keeping the thread on topic, I've found playing the beta that distance really isn't much of a factor for me in this game when implementing 1st person view. Every match I go into ends up being a brawl. In MW4 you could get good distance battles going in 1st person. I contribute this to all the detail on the battlefield. Maybe I'm worng? Any thoughts?

That's because MW4 uses magnified values of range for weapons. Our weapons are a lot less long-ranged.

I like 3rd person view and understand why some of us will like or dislike it. But it can be done in such a way that it does not grant any player a tactical advantage.
1.Enable 3rdPV in as filter option for people who want it so they can search for a server with that game option and/or different game modes.
2.With 3rdPV on all weapons and radar are disabled and your enemies become invisible.
3.Enable 3rdPV in Team Training Room or Single Player testing area.
Simple as 1-2-3.

Now to the people calling this a simulator...are you kidding...this game is not a simulator.... IL2 Sturmovick is close to a simulator...Falcon 4 and Falcon BMS are simulators & all have 3rdPV  . The simplest way to put it is ..if you do not have clickable cockpit buttons then it`s not a simulator cause you aint simulating squat ;) ummm you are only simulating driving a mech and firing it`s weapons.
Basic simulator functions from cockpit....
Start Up and Shut Down Mech from cockpit buttons.
Change Radar ranges and modes from cockpit buttons.
Assign weapons and groups from cockpit buttons.
Load Data Cartrige from cockpit..Data cartrige stores your Comm,Weapon and Navigation Info etc.just like all fighter jets have.

BTW... MechWarrior takes place way into the future... you telling me there is no technology to view behind your mech?

Well, in all honesty, the discussion effectively ended with the first posting of Paul's statement on the third-person POV and how (and why) it would not be implemented in MWO in the immediate future or the near-term (if ever).
Said quotation was made in the fourth post.

As such, the thread arguably no longer serves a purpose beyond 1.) people still begging for a third-person POV that thry're not likely to get anytime soon (if ever) and 2.) a couple of side-discussions (the seemingly-most-prominent one involving corporal punishment).

As for the rest... note that "corporal punishment", when determined to be necessary by the appropriate authorities and executed appropriately, not be the same thing as "criminal battery" or "criminal assault"? :D

I enjoyed 3rd person view from previous titles mainly because it was easier to see everything that was going on around me.
Removing 3rd person adds another layer of skill, awareness, which is key to victory.
The cockpit now looks interesting 'n more realistic than it could in the past.

Picture Flight Simulator w/ lasers, ballistics & missiles.. What's not to love? ;)

Kudos Strum Wealh.
