I'd be interested in a kickstarter type donation system where you get certain rewards like

Donation:
Lowest level: Beta Access
Mid-Level: Beta Access, MWO keychain
Highest Level: Beta Access, Signed Art, MWO Keychain etc.

I'm sure this would drum up some extra cash, and help secure beta spots for those who are fans and care about this game taking off. At least enough for some beer for the developers. :)

You want to buy the right to be a beta tester?

It's been done before, and yes it would separate those who just want to demo the game from those who care enough for testing and helping out Piranha, sure.

I normally would want to bash you over the head for that, but I'd be down for it because it's MechWarrior and I want to see this succeed.

I know how ya feel, and I would too if this wasn't MechWarrior. 1. I think the folks at Piranha are awesome for taking this on. 2. I want to buy them beer for this. 3. I want this to succeed 4. I'm tired of true fans being cut out of good beta stages that would really take the time to help the game.
The only drawback I can see for Piranha is not being able to target the systems they want to test, but that's what focused testing times are for imo.

Are they hurting for cash?

Honestly don't know, but if some fans can throw them some cash in advance I'm sure it couldn't hurt. If anything it can be pizza/beer money, and something can be given back to the fans.

They can have my wallet as well, long as they leave my house payment, some food & clothes money for the family, my isp bill payed, and a little cash left for some caffeine. :)

Depending on the price, I'd do it for the soul purpose of it being a Mechwarrior game.

bad idea..... take all the profiles people have made so far and throw them on a list to be beta testers. anyone who made an account this early into production must care some how about this game.

That's laughable. In other words, you aren't worth being a beta tester if you don't have the cash? Cmon, you really sound absurd here. I know you want this game, but if the devs charge for the beta, then I cannot play the game, based soley on the lack of any morality behind it. I wish you would read your post over again. Try to imagine yourself in the shoes of someone who actually has a life full of real time financial responsibilities. Your suggestion is borderline insanity.

Thank you! Some common sense. Cash is not the only way to show love, but it sure makes people feel more important.

If they need cash that bad, they should auction off some custom artwork or hold a raffle for a lunch with the devs, something that a fan with lots of cash can afford, but that players whose wallets arent so fat would not otherwise even care about. But to give players with more cash an advantage like that? No way!

I'm against paying for a beta, simply because a beta SHOULD be open play to stop irregularities in the gameplay.

However, I would have NO problem donating my money towards a MechWarrior MMO, and if Piranha were to add incentive, besides the fact that it's MechWarrior, I'm sure others would have no problem as well.

This has been done many times so far, have you heard of preordering to get beta access? It's simply a new model, just as f2p/p2w is. The name of the game for any developer is to make cash by making a great product they can be proud of. It's only an old school thought to think beta should be free. If Piranha was to toss something extra in like keychains, t-shirts, etc would that solve your 'morality' issue?

I wouldn't mind being a beta tester. I admit though that I'm one of the old Paper and Dice players of Battletech/Mechwarrior. I've been playing the game since the 80's back when it was called Battledroids. I think all of us that have played the PC games, and paper and dice versions want to see this done and done right. I miss the days of standing on the battlefield next to my Mech, checking out the salvage, and rebuilding fallen mechs. Talking to my fellow warriors, and helping them or getting help from them. The 'Tech universe is a powerful venue. If we get a test key, lets help these guys do a exceptional job, we help them, they help us, and a superior game comes out.
