Well I'd love to have a Longinus or Fenris for messing around in...

Battle Armour is only really useful when you have a point or more of them. On their own, they just get trampled.
And feth, I have bad memories of trying to beat mechs on my own while using the Inner Sphere Standard.
And the Elemental.
I gave up after those two.
Sure, it was fun in the MechAssault games, where you could easily take down several mechs in a row on Grinder mode, but in the MechWarrior games... not so easy or useful on your own.

BA might be fun if the perspective is well implemented

If the Commando gets in-game then at least us Lyrans will have a light battlearmor. ;D

One shipment of Zeus 'Mechs coming right up...

And as for BA, not yet. That'd be a tactical balance issue more delicate than having Clan tech.

I don't mind a bunch of elementals ruining someone's day.

They'd be fun as PvE units. Give the Komodos and Novas something to shoot at.

No hacking though. And I don't want to see an implementation of Battle Armor that makes them into smaller versions of 'Mechs like in MW2 and MW3. They should play entirely different, if they're player-enabled. Also if they can be player units, you should get a squad/Point of AI teammates to work alongside you.

As one who got into Battletech because of MechAssault, I would like to see BA to add another element, but hacking? That would just cause mass rushes of BA to hack the opponents.

BA? Sure, but when it canonicly appears. Hacking? Yeah-No.

Including battle armors could be an interesting way to represent respawns, once your mech is destroyed, you can respawn as a battle armor to assist your team mates. They are going to be weak without teamwork, and would give dead players a role.

I love Elementals, but I've yet to see a video game do them justice. I really like the point idea, but I wouldn't want to see them in as playable units unless they put in a lot of effort into making them properly (like being able to do swarm/leg attacks, no hacking, etc).

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! To hell with hacking, the fear of being swarmed by a Point of Elementals is that they're going to shred your leg actuators and then one of them is going to bodily rip you from your cockpit and disembowel you with that hydraulic claw!

MW2 merc had instant battle games where you could be an elemental or battlesuit (not the mechassault version) These I wouldnt mind at all they were weak but fast and armed with inferno srm2s really fun

In MW2 Mercs you could modify your Battlearmor in the Mechlab. It had no restrictions what so ever. So I created one with a 400 reactor, with 16 engine integrated double heatsinks and added as much clan-PPC as I could fit into it (25 + an ER-Large Laser in the Head). The BattleArmor now had a super sonic movement and enough punch to kill any enemy mech in one volley. After such a blast it would shut down for a minute. The small size and incredible speed made it impossible to kill in a duell. In later versions I readded the jumpjets and exchanged half the PPC for additional heatsinks.
Since those days I'm against BA in Mechwarrior games unless they are stock and there is no way to mod them.

Honestly, I'd love to see a system similar to Battletech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception, in which you could move around outside of your 'mech and buy weapons and several types of armored suits, and occasionally get involved in battles on foot, I just think that would be awesome...

Completely agree.
They are a big part of the Clans so should be included.
Personnally I love the little guys. Anyone with enough kahunas to jump onto a battlemech and have a go gets a round of applause from me.
The implementation needs to be quite different to the mech simulation though. Have been playing with them in MW4 but controlling them like an itty bitty mech doesn't really work and there are different rules that apply to them in regards to the terrain and targetting that were simulated in MW4 but didn't quite hit the mark.

The controls should feel like an FPS instead of a simulator.
Needs to feel like your playing as a human.
Much more dynamic and agile with movement and jumping augumented by the power armour.
Need to be able to latch onto and ride a mech.

Inner Sphere versions may feel a little clunkier.

The point system suggested will depend a lot on how the implementation of each battle is done. Perhaps as a player goes up in rank having certain command points that you can allocate to different things at the start of a battle? Artillery, some support vehicles (ammo truck), ground troops.... elementals.... different topic that but food for thought.

I'm sure the game engine can handle it all, and all in due time.
I for one would play as a elemental even if that meant not being able to then use a mech.

No. Just see the MWLL. Two PA can make busy two mech and two tanks for a minute. And cause several damage. It's kill the game. So pls let's just drop the idea....

Yes to BA. Hell, I'd be ok with trying to hack on foot as Infantry. No chance of it happening straight off, though, as they need to get the 'mech combat nailed down and fine-tuned before they start expanding in such radically different manners.

It was done badly by one fan project so it can't ever be done right?

Think it over how can be done right. In Clan rooster 5 elemental equal one Mech. This is understandable, 5 elemental can beat even a Medium Mech. But a BA normally never had a chance against a Mech in one-to-one battle (or only very-very slight chance).Who gonna play BA's, when underpowered compared to the Mech's? The MWLL do the opposite, the small, hard hitting BA have enough firepower to harrass a Mech, and even have notable chance to win against light mech's and vehicles.

So, which way you think working? The MWLL way? I noted why that flawed.
The canon way? Then almost nobody choose the elementals / BA's...

Interesting idea's so far. When the clans show up we'll most likely see them phased in over the year. Implementation would be tricky, but not impossible, in fact it could be downright fun if they can do it in line with the rest of the game.

Consider these two idea's:

Battlesuit Only Matches. Why fight a mech when you can fight other battle-suited warriors. Machine guns, Light lasers, SRM's and Grenades. Mission styles like capture the flag, take and hold, capture the intel etc. Short 5 minute matches, fast paced fun for all.

Infantry Support. Having a Star (5 man team) of elementals supporting a Star of Clan Mechs in canon, and would fit in perfectly with the clan bidding to further make things interesting. IS mechs would take some damage, maybe even get taken down if the Elementals work properly together, but alone they are just a nuisance and scout. And anyway, we'd have a perfectly good reason to mount machine-guns and small lasers.

Thoughts?
