considering this is running on cryengine, and the original crysis did feature a considerable amount of "pick up anything you could grab" in it's gameplay...

I can't help but think it'd be pretty damn cool to grab various bits of scenery for fun and profit assuming my mech has 1 or more hands.

If this indeed were possible, what kinda stuff would you like to see getting picked up and used.
you know, aside from the obvious dismembered limbs, i-beams, and trees.

I'm partial to grabbing fuel trucks, dumpsters, random parked civvie vehicles, and maybe punching with them or throwing them.

That would require hands... :D

there is are several threads on this, and I expect that I/you will be disappointed

but I think the hands thing has run its course in MW

People have an irrational, sometimes passionate, hatred of the idea that if a BattleMech is humanoid, it might be able at even a very basic level ... move like one; even in the hands of the most elite pilot, or by the most complex programming.

Usually gundam and anime is referenced, even though that kind of flippy-jumpy stuff is NOT what is being mentioned; so the reference isn't valid.

It makes no sense to me either.

What could get picked up? ... blast someone's arm off, pick it up and club him with it... or small trees .... pieces of buildings, etc.

well all of the above lol there are Btech TT rules for clubing using other parts of mech, trees, and even I beams. if they could get it to work ingame then i'll go for it.

It's done in the story lore too - *recalls Hanse pounding the comstar troops masquerading as death commandos with, I think a marauder's arm he had ripped off with his battlemaster*

Or was it someone else that did that?

well, the classic dismembered limbs, trees, and i-beams is kinda sorta already well trodden ground

i'm talking about expanding the ideas for the whole "grab something to bludgeon someone with it" dynamic.

so like, stray boulders, light poles, statues, swinging an excavator by its shovel arm, picking up a bunch of random stuff, piling it into a barricade and lighting it on fire to block off a street for a few minutes, stuff like that.

If I could pick up a slab of concrete of tear off the side of a building, those would make some nice makeshift shields to absorb a few shots.

I think as far as lifting capabilities, 'Mechs can lift roughly 50% of their weight; not sure about their ability to toss stuff around, though.

Cool if we could pick up a slab of rubble just in case we run of ammunition and baseball it the enemy like a pro pitcher :) and run like hell when he is down.

Be nice if a heavy could drag a light mech to cover. Maybe place a legged scout in the trees looking over a valley so he's at least still be of some use to the mission. Hide that blown off arm so you can salvage it later or get someone to bring it with since you have to abandon and area now.

It wouldn't have to be anything really dramatic and over the top. I understand keeping a fair level realism and lore to the game. Mechs do have working hands and us them in BTTT. I feel that is very real. If the devs feel they could spend a little time messing around with the idea I'm betting cool things would happen. Throwing light poles, mech parts, small vehicles shouldn't be to hard to figure out. Maybe even some melee involved.

I would just really love to see this kinda stuff happenPosted Image

Grab and throw. I'd love to see an Atlas pick up a shadow cat and toss him into the next world.

Right of Salvage was a real aspect of the original Battletech and would make a good addition to the game. This would be a great addition if their is some kind of economy.

i think it might be kinda neat even to have stuff you can pick up that is actually detrimental or totally useless for melee purposes.

like a portable toilet, or a shrub, or a bicycle

it was just funny beating enemies with hats, chickens, bananas, plastic water bottles, and such in crysis.

From Total Warfare, pg. 261:

Quote

In some situations, a MechWarrior may want his machine to lift and carry a piece of equipment.

A ’Mech may not pick up another unit. Only ’Mechs with functioning hand actuators may pick up an object.

To pick up an object, a ’Mech must end its Movement Phase in the same hex as the object, it must have an undamaged hand actuator in both arms and it may make no weapon or physical attacks that turn.

A ’Mech can pick up objects weighing up to ten percent of its tonnage (this is increased to 20 percent if the ’Mech mounts operating Triple Strength Myomer, see p. 143).

While the ’Mech is carrying the object, it cannot fire any arm or forward-firing torso-mounted weapons, make punching or pushing attacks, use a club or make physical weapon attacks, though it may charge, kick and execute death-from-above attacks. In addition, the ’Mech suffers the limitations described in Cargo Carriers, above.

Lift Hoists - specialized lifting equipment - allow a 'Mech to carry up to one-half of its total tonnage per hoist; Total Warfare (pg. 136-137) gives an example of a 30-ton IndustrialMech having two Lift Hoists which allow it to lift its own mass (30 tons -> 15 tons per Lift Hoist * two Lift Hoists) in cargo.

:)

i never quite understood why mechs were limited to only 10 percent of their weight. That's really really weak.

that would be like me being only able to lift 19lbs

One thought is to bury chunks of metal in a pattern, it would look like a mine field. It would slow a group down until a few were targeted, but then, what if you had only three mines.

Its probably unlikely for any of this to be an option, but if only one part of it is implemented, it must be the following:
Atlas Pilots should be able to pick up and dropkick urbanmechs for the lols.
