{Excerpt below taken from link above]

"...
MWO: If you had to pick a role (Assault, Command, Defense, Scout) which would it be and why?

[Omid] ALL OF THEM! Would you really ask a parent to pick a favorite child? Okay, okay Garth, don't hurt me. Right now I'd take Assault and charge in guns blazing. I enjoy blasting Paul's Hunchback too much.
..."

To all you Assault Role players out there, I have three questions:

Question # 1 - Do you plan on playing the Assault Role immediately after launch or trying the Scout and/or Commander Roles first?

Question # 2 - What Mechs would you use for the Assault Role? Let me know your favorite Mechs (Inner Sphere and Clan) and their weapon/equipment loadouts for this type of role.

Question # 3 - Do you plan to be cautious when leading the charge, or, are you leaning toward the "Blow-Up-Anything-That-Moves" style-of-play?

1: I plan to try all roles, but I often gravitate toward the heavy hitters. But depending on the way the game turns out to play, I may find I like another class.

2: Fond of the Executioner, Marauder, Thanatos, Annihilator. Loadouts I can't say I have specifics off the top of my head, but generally like to rock some heavy ballistic weapons and PPCs. Not so much w/ the missiles.

3: Run and gun is generally my preference, but the way this game is being talked about, it may reward a little more discretion.

I think I'll reserve my decision until I actually see something (like screenshots, videos, etc.) that is from the supposed test runs.

Right now, it seems like its all just words and hype, and I've seen very little to back up any actuality.

Perhaps we'll get more info from the supposed GDC convention presence.

Right now, all I see is hype. I've seen that before.

And right now, I'm beginning to YAWN at the continuing hype that hasn't been backed up by anything but promises.

Color me skeptical, but that's just my 2 C-Bills while I play Netmech.

I will be going assault first
i love the mix of speed and firepower you get from heavy mechs
but sometimes i cant go past some of the more aggressive mediums

My favorite is the Timberwolf however im happy to pilot just about anything although the warhammer, centurion and Artic wolf top my selection lists
i prefer having LRMs for long range and a stack of lasers for workhorse fighting then finish it off with a few machine guns so im always shooting even during over heat

Well now that you've said that we'll get our screenshots faster for sure... :)

I'd vote for a Zeus but weapons and mechs being up in the air it depends, might not like how some of them end up, never know. Though indirect missiles sound nice. Still I think my answer to 3 would be to charge in head first blasting. If you're leading a charge, you charge, while leading. Obviously. Of course if you have a bunch of long rangers you can move up a little slower but I always found myself up close eventually.

So far I can see myself having a few skills from the scout / Assault / Command trees.

I basically will scope out all the skill trees and hang out with best perks to work with roles of contracts that will be handled.

Answer 1 = Yes with the help of any Commander Perk that can enhance the Battlegrid supports
Answer 2 = Dragon (IS) Unknown (Clan) Weapons : Anything that can make big 300M
Answer 3 = It based to the conditions though, I prefer "Blow-Up-Anything-That-Moves, Shoot Anyones Who Retreats, And Destroy The-Whole-Area-To-The-Ground Style" But i can also play with "Ghost Recon" style (Prefer return fire only, increased caution, tactical maneuver, etc) if the conditions need it.

I'll probably be primarily assault in the medium to heavy mech range, but if the other role perks have useful stuff I'll mix and match a bit most likely.

I'm an assault pilot........so i prefer the assault/defender role....i'll take an Atlas at start up with a weapons mix for both....prefer urban combat,it's what i've always been best at.

I will try scouting as soon as I have an Atlas or maybe an Zeus for ultra light recon.

I will be playing a medium Commander, but if I had to run assault I'd say we need to see more assault size mechs before I make a final desision. I'd prefer to have the Devastator under my seat than the Atlas personally. If none of the assault mechs appealed to me then I'd probably run with an Orion. It's a good threat at all ranges but is especially nice up close. Orion is also my second choice for Command mech. I'd prefer the Crab for a Command role.

Interesting posts. As for myself...

Question # 1 - Do you plan on playing the Assault Role immediately after launch or trying the Scout and/or Commander Roles first?

Yes, indeedy! Being in an attacker/assault role is definitely my cup of tea; however, I fully intend to take advantage of a few Scout perks as well.

Question # 2 - What Mechs would you use for the Assault Role? Let me know your favorite Mechs (Inner Sphere and Clan) and their weapon/equipment loadouts for this type of role.

I would love to pilot a Marauder II, Devastator or an Atlas at start. When the Clans come calling...I hope to eventually pilot the Daishi/Dire Wolf or Supernova. I also have an affinity for the (IS) Sunder. I love Assault Mechs! I can't help it! Bearing all this in mind, part of me gets the feeling that the Devs are gonna make Assault Mech's move and fight (i.e. weapon convergence) much slower than other Mechs. If I start to get my @ss handed to me by Medium Mechs because I can't bring my weapons to bear fast enough...(*sigh*)...then I may be forced to play a Heavy Mech instead. If that becomes the situation, I would pilot a Marauder or an Orion (IS) and maybe eventually a Novacat, or Thanatos or Mad Cat/Timberwolf when the Clans rear their heads. As far as weapon loadouts, I'm all about the "big punch" weapons: Large Laser, PPC, AC20, LBX20, Gauss Rifle, etc....the more the merrier.

Question # 3 - Do you plan to be cautious when leading the charge, or, are you leaning toward the "Blow-Up-Anything-That-Moves" style-of-play?

I plan to be cautious. No matter what you pilot, getting your Mech blown out from under you by coordinated attacks sucks big time. Don't get me wrong...if I can keep an enemy Mech in range of my weapons...I will bring the hurt down on their heads. What I won't do is fall into some ambush just because I wanted to tag one more Light/Medium Mech for my collection.
