All right. So I'd like to see other people's recommendations for what I'll likely be looking at. Which, given my preferences will be;
Budget of $1250
AMD AM3+ motherboard
80+ bronze or better PSU
AMD Graphics card
GELID GC-Extreme Thermal paste
Decent or better cooling
Monitor, at least 1080p
Keyboard that will last, corded
Mouse with dpi switch, corded, responsive
Corsair Vengeance 1500 headset
8GB AMD RAM
Windows 7 64bit OS

Let's see people's ideas and compare them to my own :) See what the best will be for when I look to build a PC in a couple months.

well..I built my PC for $1300 mid last year..

16 gigabytes of Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz,
3.2 GHz Phenom X6 hex-core processor.
VTX3D 6950 2gb
1tb HDD
Antec Truepower Blue 700w PSU
Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H

granted, I got it all through my local computer store so it was a little bit more expensive ($120 or so more expensive) than ordering online..but that gave me the option of paying it off per week. :)

I haven't touched a thing cooling wise, as even running games such as Serious Sam 3 or FEAR 3 or other such games at max, it only ran hot when I had it in an old spare office case. Since I got my Thermaltake mk-1 Chaser case, have had no overheating issues at all.

Because I refuse to buy intel and nvidea on moral grounds and the difference in performance between intel and AMD is not great enough for me to choose intel. Also, i intend to upgrade to A piledriver 8 core either next year or the year after.

There was no irony in that statement, merely sarcasm based on my prior statements, however I meant to reaffirm my position and the reasoning behind my choice.
In any case, I would hope to see at least some alternate choices to what I would like.

After all my posts you think I support anything but AMD? Only reason I run intel is because I get the 2700k for $125 I am building a AMD system just cause I miss running one as my 1100T is now a office graphics computer. Not only do I respect your brand choices but applaud them, you have reasons for what your buying other than "its what the internetz tell me to" I was just making what I thought was clearly a joke post, my bad.

BTW I would go

Sorry they were out of stock on the Thuban, meant to mention that but really you can snag a 965 on the used market for around $60-80 since your gonna go pile driver down the road a used proc should be fine. Also with the mailed in rebates thats another $55 off

Also I usualy dont count monitors and Keyboards/mice when budgeting since they tend to be with me alot longer than PC's but that may just be me.

CPU - Phenom II X4 or X6 (X4 if you want to get a motherboard that unlocks cores and you feel lucky)

Is what i would do with the above suggestions, the X4 will save you money short term and if your upgrading later probably best and potentially work well (if lucky with a core unlock), the X6 is a more sure bet.

Would definitely plump for a mechanical keyboard, the extra cost is offset by the fact it will still work perfectly...even after you die, and upto that point your fingers will be having sex everytime you type (lucky fingers!). Ideally the Das Model S even though it's one of the most expensive.

I would have suggested that but it wasn't really in his budge. Honestly if your willing to go with some used parts you could build a way better PC for that kind of budget. mOr if your in no rush just hang out at slickdeals and grab each part when its cheap.

I'd just pick up an X4 right now if the plan is to just ditch it for an upgrade.

Also, +1 for the Sidewinder X4; it's a good keyboard

Right, I figured I'd pick up a zosma X4. Anyhow, any other build ideas from anyone else? :)

Hm. How about a Logitech G400 mouse? It's corded, you can choose dpi (not too insanly high) and adjust weight.
