I think you still can. I doubt PGI will force the players to fight the Clans.

i'd rather it was 3025 that way the clans wouldn't show up for a dang long while.

I feel exactly the same. Mechwarrior games have instilled the idea in people that Inner Sphere is absolute nonsense, the Clans are the best at everything ever, and that's that. The BT universe is so rich and diverse, even before the invasion, and as soon as the Clans decide to show up, most players will leave 50% of the mechs by the wayside, which is a pity.

I think many people are, admittedly chomping at the bit to get their hands on the ever popular Clan mechs and tech, but there's just so much to be released that's simply IS without bringing the Clans into it. Plenty of IS stuff is fine without introducing new tech and Mechs- look at how many people are already in love with certain Mechs- granted many choose the Heavy/Assaults simply due to what they can pack in terms of firepower and lasting on the field- but many already love their Lights and Mediums- THAT is what Battletech/Mechwarrior is all about- not just fielding 8 Atlases, but a variety.
But, I guess if we have to talk about the Clans.....as said above- it's a sad truth that many will immediately either bin or leave their IS Mechs and tech behind in favour of the Clans- sure, they have their own appeal, but it's a sad, sad shame to see so many IS Mechs get left on the wayside simply because they aren't "cool toys" any more.
Personally I'd like to see a whole larger range of Mechs and new Tech added, then I'll be prepared for Clan stuff. I'm still of the opinion that it would be nice to see some more Tech that has yet to appear- which perhaps will feature later but we'll see- like introduction of things like the Arrow IV and such- but we'll see.
I guess if I have to pick anything Clan-Wise that would be nice to see, the Longbow would be nice- possibly the Timber Wolf as well- nevermind anything else. Don't get me wrong, the tech will be nice too, even if it is just because it's a bit lighter and such- but personally I'm quite happy as is. For now, anyway.

I am also a Clanner at heart, but I would have loved to play a part in the 3rd succession war, or even earlier ones! And since we are talking about dreams, why not have also the chance of participating in Clan history, the pentagon worlds war, operation Klondike.
A lot of those things have never been covered in a game, and I feel would hook newcomers a lot more, since they will have a load of cool things to look forward to.
The thing is, the upcoming invasion is uber cool, but then from Tukkayid onwards its a slow spiralling agony.
Operation Bulldog? Fedcom war? *****? yawnsville.

I'm also hoping for something like this, but I'd have stars of NPC omnimechs dropping into battles already in progress. Not sure how that would work out though. I can see people getting pissed if they lose and can't afford to repair their mechs.

This is definitely a Battletech players Mechwarrior game. If it stays true to the canon, Clan tech will be difficult to obtain, unless, of course, you are the Black Thorns who collect it just as easy as you please. I'm more interested to see if Star League tech makes it to the game. A Brian Cache perhaps? Comguards?

I do like the way the game feels, from a Battletech standpoint. I always wished that all Mechwarrior games would feel like this. I dont even mind the Mechlab, thought I'd hate it but I it works out really well.

As far as this game goes outside of some minor connection issues and a initial issue with my mouse I'm having a blast with my Hunchback, it's my number 3 mech in all of BattleTech but my primary two, the Axe Man and the Zeus being my favorites are not (yet??

I personally would love to see some NPC based missions, going against X house and maybe some NPC allied and enemy units like Aerospace and Armor. I'd love to have the ability to play a scout Mech, paint a target and watch some artillery and missiles rain down like the wrath of an angered god on that poor *******.

On the topic,
Personally I never thought this day would come. MW2 and MW3 were great games and good simulations for their time but, as the consoles started to proliferate, we saw more arcade versions like the MW4s and MAs. The prospect of a PC simulation seemed remote. So, as an old timer, I'm FLOORED that MWO will not only be a PC sim, the graphics are geneations beyond previous MW games, its rooted in canon, and it has a metagame following the BT timeline. We wont just be playing in open drops with the occasional league match as before. We will be playing in battles that rage all over the map according to canon factions. We will be part of the evolution of the classic BT timeline. That, my friends, is kicka** and what everyone has been wishing for for years.
As for the timeline, I too would rather have seveal months or a year or more to play through some of IS history if the metagame is rich enough to stage some important events in the IS to be part of. We still dont know how PGI is going to present the Clan Invasion. It could simply be news updates about battles with stange mechs and then clan mechs start showing up for sale in the mechlab. That would be disappointing though. Id much rather that it be a major surprise (as much as it can be) in some epic battle someplace with a few clanners showing up here and there piloted by devs to start major buzz in the fan base. Make it an event and send the community into a whirl with it.
Perhaps, have the FnF team pilot clan mechs and drop in a few pub games. I guarantee you that hazey pics of the clan mechs in battle would start showing up on the web as well as frapped vids on youtube of clan mechs. The fan base would have a cow.. collectively.
