Instanced matches, it's an MMOG, not MMORPG. Also I think they're done giving out beta keys unless you buy a founder's pack.

There's no world, there's no walking to the shop then walking to the arena then walking to the barber, etc. Tool your mech in the lab, launch into a battle, kills things/don't die. rinse repeat!

Community Warfare (due after launch, not at launch) will introduce some metagame aspects, fighting over planets and stuff.

the combat is the substance itself. rpgs require story and customization because the gameplay is simple click spam.

So no real chance of "live events" like in EVE, which can be hella fun and actually make you feel apart of the storyline. The combat is satisfying, no doubt. But fighting over the same maps over and over... Battlefield 3 and other matchmaking games get old very quickly..

I wouldn't mind being able to jump into an unoccupied map or a training map just to get some piloting practice without having to worry about getting shot up.

Are you guys violating the NDA? Or, I guess this stuff has been discussed anyway by the developers.

The "this is not rpg" statements have been said many times by the devs. Most new folks just don't have either the patience or know how to dig up the information. So this is not an nda break.

I find it odd what people think the MM part of MMOG/MMORPG stands for!

Unless you have 100+ players, all in one game at one time and all are able to interact with each other then a game can not be an MMO.

Its just a Multiplayer Game.

Lobbies do not count, if they did, pretty much ever single game since Doom would be classed as an MMO.

yeah, no kidding Iron Heart.

I have to say, I like the system thus far. I can also see which avenues the came can be taken to... I hope the Devs make it a reality.

The devs Have not really said what size of battles might be introduced when its up and finished , you can assume you will have the usual formats 2v2 4v4 8v8 maybe 16v16 ... imagine if they could run battles of 32 v 32 or more lol carnage and mayhem :)

And MWO has both story and customization... Your point?

Since MWO has a a vast amount of lore, this game could go in a variety of directions. To limit it to "as is", is pure folly. The Devs need to make money as well as continuously attract new players. For that to continue to occur, new content will always be needed even if it means going beyond a few table-top rules and/or going outside of the box.

lol, I got bored with WoT in 1.5 hours. Sorry, but any game that allows one to become a wallet warrior isn't for me, i.e. the purchase of premium ammunition. Not to mention, their matchmaking was/is horrendous.

its an MMO. not an MMORPG. you pick a match and then dive in. Mechwarrior as an MMORPG would be too vast. Its a massive world spanning several planets.

I like it as is, but at the same time, something akin to WW2 Online (or RvR on other games) could be cool with this- that's not to say its not in the works at some point. I don't know how you'd make it viable enough to make people stick with it though..

Since when has 24 players been classed as Massive? I played Quake TF with 32 players in 1996 and that was just an online multiplayer game!

MWO is a OMG (Online Multiplayer Game)

The problem is Console Games have bred a generation of Gamers who now think having more than 8 v 8 in a single map is impressive.

Show me 64 v 64 mechs in a single map and I will be awe struck, even 32 v 32 would be impressive, less than 32 players in a map and the game is just showing how limited the game engine is.

16 years on and most modern games cant even match the numbers of a mod! and please dont tell me the game is designed to have low numbers, who on earth would choose to have only 24 players on a map when you could have 32, 64 or 128 players in epic large scale battles!

I will follow this game with interest as I have owned and played pretty much ever Mechwarrior and Commander Game made, but it saddens me to know that an pure online version of MW is so limited in numbers and scope.

MWO should have been a fully persistent universe, made up of many worlds with each planet or moon having many battlefield/zones where factions/clans could fight it out to control that region of space, all the while, having core worlds which could be fought on but not conquered as a safe haven.

From what I can see, MWO is no different from most modern FPS such as CoDMW or BF3 or the now popular F2P games which make money from people buying bullets and weapon upgrades in game.
