In the Q&A 4 They said that you cannot ever fully destroy a Mech... This disappoints me because I love core explosions (Not the crappy ones from MechWarrior4 but the cool ones from MechWarrior3, MechAssault and MechAssault 2)

They mean in terms of player ownership. I'm sure you can blow the **** out of them in the game.

Yeah, I think they were saying its not as punishing as say, EVE where you lose your ship/mech/etc permanently after the match.

I really think they're saying "We don't want people to lose their favorite Mauler, scream violently, smash in their monitors, and then vow to never play again."

Core explosion is atleast half the reward of killing mechs!

makes me wonder if you could take a scout mech drop all the armor replace it with missles and just run up next to a big mech and let him kill you, you go boom, missles go boom, he go boom! course not sure if an ammo explosion will effect anything other than your mech.

Ugh, I really really hope they don't have every mech's reactor have a catastrophic containment failure. There should be a CHANCE of it. To take tabletop as an example (omg, don't get bent out of shape for me doing this guys, I know, evil tabletop!), you have to recieve 4 engine criticals in one round for a CHANCE of containment failure. Then, you have to roll a 10 or higher on 2d6 for it to actually happen. Makes it a VERY memorable experience when it does. And quite deadly.

I don't think we go "boom" now. I think we go " fzzzchhhzzz*pop*fixxzzzckckckzzz"

(that was supposed to be the sound of electronics fizzing and popping)

This. If every mech would go critical everytime, it would become boring soon. Like a bad action movie, were you just yawn at just another explosion.

Like when a car crashes into a telephone pole and explodes for no reason? Are you saying this kind of stuff does not belong in a sim game?

I used High Explosives for this in MW4, so fun to run between enemy legs then BANG! mech is gone. So satisfying..

i do believe core explosions will happen. except in game your techs can always patch you up enough to fight on,but if you have enough credits in game then they can totally rebuild you.

Or like those big mechs in Mass Effect 2, they usually just explode [not saying mechs should always explode] but sometimes if your lucky they go tactical nuke on you and cause a very satisfying visual experience. In mechwarrior if that happens it should cause a lot of damage in the surrounding area.

I actually wouldn't mind a EVE style system where you could permanently lose a mech if it was completely destroyed. It would make each battle so much more intense. I can see how it wouldn't work so well in the game though.

The idea of a mech going critical and then being repaired by your maintenance crew... It just seems a bit off to me.

I quite like the fact that there could be occasions where you will lose your 'mech permanently on the battlefield, either because of directed fire or simply because you let your guard down and were not paying attention to what you were doing - and needing to begin the process all over again of gaining a 'mech and rejoining your place on the battlefield. It gives a sense of what it is like to be a disposessed 'mech jockey and brings a bit of realism to everything, including the humiliation every MechWarrior feels when they have to admit to being disposessed.
To have your 'mech shot out from under you but never really "lose" the 'mech (as in you would need one heck of a repair job and infinite source of C-bills for that task) is kind of boring to me. It is the same as Living Legends in that sense, where, when you die, you merely get respawned and begin again. A BIG yawn.

I hope not too, its in the devs hands and comes down to 'punishment' for loosing battles\mechs.

Yeah, I mean, going critical, due to ignorance of heat, or a lucky shot is one thing, but making yourself go critical, that should only be an option if your mech is heavily damaged, as yes we had people that we called bomber pilots. The would load up on speed, and a little armor, and I remember hating having to deal with them, which wasn't really a problem due to the fact that a lot of those pilots were idiots to begin with, and would run straight at you. But yes, it is extremely annoying, to have to deal with that.

EDIT: To quote myself again, it should be a one in a hundred, maybe thousand occasion, and it has to be spectacular. Like a RPon\\ "YEAH take that you son of a .... HOLY ****, HE'S GOING NOVA, **** **** RUN AWAY!!!!!" \\RPoff

I think mechs should have hard to access "sweet spots", where they would basically become a large pile of molten metal and char after the explosion.
