Beers of The Inner Sphere

Harken unto me, fellow Lyrans. What I have to say is shocking, but it must be told.

Beer, our most precious essence, is under threat.

Every child learns that beer may only be made from four ingredients: Water, Hops, Yeast, and one of the three grains (Barley, Wheat, and Oat).

I should say "every Lyran child", for in other, less enlightened regions of the Inner Sphere, beer-like beverages are made and sold which do not follow this ancient and holy law.
  • In space ruled by both Liao and Draconis, what passes for beer is made from rice. Yes, rice.
  • On Marik worlds, they make beer from corn and, I'm told, from potatoes.
  • In the non-Lyran portions of the Federated Commonwealth, I hesitate to write these words, but what they call beer, whether made from the ordained ingredients or from one of these ersatz starches, is often adulterated with strange ingredients. I have heard rumors of something called cheese beer, and worse besides, but I shall refrain from writing more lest I affright young readers.
  • Our brothers of the Free Rasalhague Republic make a beverage from fermented honey, which they have the honesty to not call beer (I believe it's called "mead"), and yet this too is a threat to the purity of our sacred essence.
For I have learned that across the Inner Sphere, beverage distributors are mobilizing to push their polluted brews into our space. And this must not stand.

We must rebuke them, and more, we are called to teach the rest of the Inner Sphere the true meaning of beer.

I wouldn't have thought this needed to be said, but please keep your discussion on-topic, civil, and devoid of memes.

Not all Davion beer is bad, Towne has a nice Ale called Frost Giant's Daughter.

Can't remember what they drink on Northwind... or rather what they don't drink.

I am a Lyran,
but as a human I cannot stand with you on this.
Beer not Borders!
Beer must never be drawn into a source of conflict.
-Unless it is the last one.

Beer. Is the golden liquid of the Star League, bottled.

Indeed, it is known that this brew is derived from a stolen Lyran recipe. Sadly, they've taken to adulterating it, and even (dare I say it) adding something called preservatives.

And if those on the other side of artificial borders seek to pollute your beer? To add substandard ingredients, to skunkify it, to serve it at the wrong temperature?

What then can a true Lyran do?

Rise up, my brothers, rise up for your beer.

In case it's not obvious, I'm making an attempt here to generate some content in this forum other than recruitment threads. There was only one Lyran team in the "Run Hot or Die" tourney, and they lost in the first round. There's rarely anyone on the hub teamspeak, and I've never seen a full group's worth of warriors there.

We're going to get facerolled if we don't generate some interest. The Mariks have a free pass from Liaio, so when they want to start something, guess where they're going to come? I expect a similar rapprochement between the FRR and the Kurita, so our FRR brothers are likely to come south while they're waiting to defect to the clans.

If you don't like the save-our-beer concept, please feel free to generate your own, which celebrates what is cool about Lyrans without devolving into either mindless herp-derp Atlas jokes, or (worse) pseudo-third-reich crapaganda.

It's beer. You get off on telling people how to live? Besides, I hear that your beer is overpriced for the taste. Seems like it is all in balance to me.
Also, aren't you the Federated Commonwealth, at the moment? And weren't the Lyrans' dumb enough to buy Katherine's lies? And before someone says, yes I know she changed her name to Katrina, but is she really worthy of her grandmother's name?

Welcome to Lyran space. No, the beer crusade (or "brewsade") is not about telling people how to live, it's about preserving the purity of the beer we drink. Those outside our borders seek to force us to drink swill.

It is true that beer made properly costs more than beer made from fermented recycled mechtreads.

Indeed we are. I will reword my original post to refer to Davion space as the non-Lyran portions of the Commonwealth. Thank you for your contribution to the crusade.

As a mechwarrior with bavarian ancestors, I approve of this.

The german purity law saves us from horrible beers from around the world since 1487.
Thats 1562 years of real beer in the Lyran Commonwealth!

It´s important to spread this rules over the inner sphere!

Oops. Perhaps I should learn to proof-read after all. Edited OP. Thank you for your contribution to the brewsade.

Remember also our cousins in Skye, who, though they lack the legacy of the Rheinheitsgebot, yet stand with us against the tyranny of inferior, imported brews.

Welcome to the brewsade.

The day someone threatens my pale ale supply... is the day I mount in my 'Mech and not head into battle... but to the local liquor store in protest! :(

Ah, the voice of the lone wolf. No thought for the countless others for whom our strength should stand as shield, only for your own beer supply. It is sad, but perhaps you will change your ways in time.

You serious?

First, of course I'm serious. Giant stompy walking tanks (of doom) are very serious business, no? Plus germanic stereotypes have no sense of humor, right? It is known. So of course I'm serious.

Second, thanks for demonstrating my point: that those outside Lyran space not only don't understand proper beer, they also seek to suppress discussion of proper beer, to erase it from human memory.

Cousins, if my weak and meager words failed to convince you, the mindless scorn of our our potatoe-beer-drinking guest should prove it: the other powers of the IS seek to destroy our beer.

Rise up, join the brewsade.

Welcome, Hayden. Indeed, an interesting question. I've left off characterizing St.Ives (and the Capellans in general) because it presents a quandary: its history suggests that it should favor real beer, but its physical location makes it very vulnerable to pressure from the outside beverage distributors.

I believe that the answer to your question is yet to be written: will St. Ives stand up for real beer, or will it go down in history as yet another consumer of "beer"?

The choice is yours.

If you don't like it don't drink it.

But what do I care, I drink Schapps.

And I'm not Lyran, what am I doing in here?

Keep trying. There is 15-20 pilots a night on there now. There have been a handful of nights here recently that 3 full teams (plus a few) where on. We need to keep adding pilots so the play times lengthen. If you come in and see a few on, stick around and watch it grow. The "HuB" wants your love!
