Eh, I think I would have prefered MA3 instead. This looks a lot like a browser-based game which I'm never a fan of. Oh well, at least there's still MWO and Hawken.

Funny how pc gamers dont get a new battletech game for years and sudenly after PGI anounces its making a f2p pc battletech game...
the makers of mechassault decide to make a mech f2p pc game too. I assume f2p is for pc, i am not seeing Microsoft or Sony letting their game shops distribute f2p games and allowing free update downloads.

But i think is curious that big buck developers didnt care about the franchise for so long, and sudenly evabody wants a piece of PGI cake.
Still.. tanks with legs are not battletech, i will remain faithfull to my alien overlords. ;)

From the footage shown I'll have to say that if I want to play fast paced mech combat I would go with Hawken. It looks "meatier" and less shiny than this. Also Hawken simple looks better.
But we will see how those games compare once they are released.

Also the discussion about this makes me question why people that don't want to play a slower paced Mechsim are even here. But apparently that just how the Internet works.

You had me until you got to this part. Then you just got insulting unfortunately. From my standpoint, I have no problem whatsoever with arcady iterations of the franchise. I just don't care for the weird, weird story that they apparently told that didn't fit in with the Battletech universe. Picking up weapon upgrades and health? (Edit: Ehhh, I guess that's acceptable for an "arcade" game, but it still seems weird). Giant spidermechs and halfmechs that crawl around and have "all five cores!" activated in odd boss battles? They added some weird stuff, which is why I tend to think of it more as fanfic than anything else. They took recognizable elements from Batteltech and used them in a mashup.

I'm all for more access points. I just want them to be accessing the actual Universe, not some mutation of it.

I understand your reasoning Dihm, but you have to understand that my post wasn't directed at you and people like you. It's okay to not like something because you may not like its story, or some other aspect rubs you the wrong way. That's your right as both a human being and a gamer. What I take exception to are people who are willfully obtuse and ignorant - who hate anything that doesn't conform to their high standards. I don't mind it if you have an educated opinion on a specific matter, what I do mind are people who hate for the sole purpoes of hating.

I know it may be hard to understand, but there are many, many people out there with closed minds. Many people with a set of preconcieved notions that they cannot let go of. As Morpheus said in the Matrix: "Free your mind, and the rest follows".

It's okay to dislike something, just be aware of why you dislike it and that your opinions may not be a universal constant.

I'll give Hawken its due. The environmental and cockpit art in that game looks amazing. From the looks of things, RoT doesn't hold a candle, but I'll reserve judgement untill I can see more of it. Oh yes, 2012 is going to be a great year for 'Mech fans.

I couldn't agree more.. VERY Disappointed it wasn't a new for console MA3. I mean seriously is there a need for a F2P that looks like a console game and where they strip the BT/MW world out of it.. All it will do is make for confusion in the market due to saturation.

Absolutely laughed my head off when it said, quite seriously I might add, "From the makers of MechAssualt"

Proof they are trying to live off the BT/MW franchise without having to license it.. which to me looks like they took all the bad from Mechassualt and put it into a game and added a P2W system around it.

Eh.. Hawken looks OK.. but again with MW:O out there and if it looks half as good as the 2009 trailer, Hawken will just be another game to over saturate the market with.

There is a thing called too much of a good thing. I think too many Mech games will create an over saturation similar to all the Military style Co-Op games like BF3, CoD, etc.. out there. Sometimes its good, sometimes its kills the genre.

Crossing my fingers that the bar MW:O sits is so high that the other games become just a footnote in game history. That is probably the best thing about all these games coming to the market.. Definitely going to make sure PGI brings their A++ game.. I just hope it doesn't have the reverse affect of making them gun shy and slowing down progress due to over thinking and over worrying about the competition (Seen that happen too)

Yeah but look at it this way: How many millions of people play CoD/Battlefield? How many people buy the same yet newer iteration of the game every year so that they can play the latest and greatest? The 'Mech genre has always been fairly niche - it could do with some market saturation right about now.

At least to get new players interested in it.

How do you guys feel about this?

Yeah......naw.
It opened up ok. Then I saw Day 1 and Mechassault and thought, "Ok. This might be cool."
Then the gameplay started..........
Oh boy.
It looks like they took MA2, threw in some COD kit swapping, and just for the hell of it, the weapon effects from Blur.
I don't even know how to feel about this. It's nice that this year is getting alot of mech love, but I don't want it to be bad lovin' like that is. ;)

True.. but I wouldn't say it was completely niche.. Back in the day when the gaming engines were weak, and you couldn't do all CoD / BF / etc.. can now do the Mechwarrior games were mainstream.

I guess my real point is though is I hope MW:O is the BF or CoD of the group.. because for every BF or CoD Game there are dozens of other imitators.. Look at Fantasy RPG, there is the king in WoW, then there is DDO, LotR, Runescape, and dozens of others.. most have failed.

Funny thing mentioning that genre, is this weekend I tried DDO, didn't get through the tutorial.. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE controls.. and seemed like no more than WoW with a bad Dungeonmaster.. Although it looked alot better than WoW... that alone wasn't enough for me to stay with it.

Hoping if there is a huge saturation, that MW:O becomes the defacto standard all will be compared against. Much like WoW is to FRPG.

Unfortunately this game looks like crap. Mech design is pretty weak. I guess we will have to find out.

Read the first few pages....I love it how the MA console fanbois were dissing the BT PC "purists and elitists" and look how that turned out.
And of course, they shut up quite nicely now. lol not really a bright idea to insult the Mechsim gamers, isn't it?

Anyway, game doesn't really look too shabby but it doesn't really hold much of a candle against Hawken, which is a more closer competitor to it. Cartoonish artsyle is nothing wrong but I'm not sure if it meshes well with giant stomping robots. Battlemechs are supposed to make people believe they are THAT 50 tons of metal and destruction but cartoonish graphics do not portray that aspects. So the mechs in this game look like plastic toys.

Plus the video shows too much of AE damage cluster**** so I'm not sure what are they trying to impress on potential players. That DIDN'T look fun at all.

But well, can never have too much of mech games so this is a good trend.

By the way, since it is no longer going off of the BattleTech Universe, I will probably play this game, as it doesn't look to bad

Previous posts containing "MechAssault 3" were all merged in to one since there were like 4 or 5 of them. Everyone's posts are still here, just merged into one giant mega thread.
