I get where your coming from, there are MANY mechs I'd love to see in game. Too many to realistically list here. As for timeline, it's been pretty well established that the game is going to be following very close to the timeline of Battletech, including events, and also the tech availalble as well for combat purposes, specifically 'mechs and weapons.
Sure the Loki was created/designed prior to 3050, but there's a bit of a terminology difference here you need to bear in mind.
Just because something exists doesn't mean it's readily available.
Example:
The Hope Diamond exists, but it sure as heck isn't available to me.
Just a thought. You'll get your amazing
Later!

While I agree with all the mechs from the first mechwarrior as I understand it half of them are on the nono list and the other half are on the you might get away with using them list. But I agree everyone of my fav mechs is either from mech warrior 1 or from legend of ghost bear.

Awesome: It's the king of the light assaults, is a fan favorite and one of the best designs in CBT pre-3050 and is very iconic. A lot of people bring up the Zeus here, but really, the Zeus weapon loadout just isn't that effective in past MechWarrior games where the Awesome's simplicity makes it very much a top-tier design, so I'd strongly advocate the Awesome as the priority of the two. fills the vacant 80 ton slot.
Stalker: I would absoultely love this and take it over the Zeus anyday for the 85 ton slot. It's a highly unique design that again has been underrepresented in previous MechWarrior games, while providing something different from an Atlas/Awesome in the form of an assault missile-heavy design; currently the only revealed missile focused mech is the Catapult in the heavy class. The Stalker has some great alternate variants and is just all around a great choice.
Orion: This one has been overlooked in the majority of MechWarrior games, but has always been popular in CBT. It's a well balanced heavy with a long canon history and is a good option for filling the 75 ton slot if the Marauder is unavailable for copyright reasons.
Raven: This one has been brought up a lot, and deserves it. With all the talk about recon being important to MWO I'd be actually shocked if the most notable recon 'mech in the entire BTU didn't make the cut.
Highlander: Fills the role of jumping assault as there are not many of them at this point in time in the IS, as well as provides a solid 90 ton 'mech. This is pretty important as the majority of assaults tend to be 80-85 or 100 flat out in this time period, if weight figures into drops at all.
... 'mechs I'd like to see to give the game a unique line-up from past MechWarrior games:
The Crab: Fills the role of a medium laser boat. Right now, the mediums in the game are ballistic heavy (Centurian and Hunchback), leaving fans of lasers without anything special in the class.
Panther: A 'heavy hitter' non-recon, non-speed oriented light that's centered around damage via it's PPC, it'd be nice to see this as again an option for a different play style in an existing weightclass.
Charger: Another very possibly controversial choice to add to the lineup, would provide a 'mech designed for scouting to the assault weight class, another "turn expections on their head" option. Notably the Charger's silly light armament does have multiple dangerous, typical assault options as well.
