All of your cable ideas can be lumped together if you make one design change, which we're working on for the next one: run the cables down an actual articulated arm, ending with a USB hub, monitor cable, and audio cables. Hide those inside a fist, or dock them at a port near the end of the arm, and you're done... But not really. Any PC is going to have more cables than that, given network needs, and with a mountable router near the head or anywhere else, cable management is going to suck. When we make a bit more money on these, then we'll be able to make redesigns faster and more easily.

And because I despise cable management, I said screw it and just plugged it all in. It even works... Here's our first MekPC, playing at the Factory.



Can't leave this alone, so I'm gonna get some Highlander time in. Will show some work on the alternative laser/machinegun arm tomorrow.

When we sell this one, we'll install grommets in the hip joints for cable management, instead of simply leaving it all hanging out. I just wanted to get it up and running ASAP, because I like the shiny lights...

Ain't it a wee bit cold in the garage to play? I know, us lyrans warm ourselves on an ice chip but nonetheless....

The weather here in south Mississippi has been really nice, unseasonably warm even. It was 76°F here today, and I was out working in the garden. I even plan to go back out to the welding shop and game on that MekPC tonight, just because I can.

Been gathering steel for the RVN-3L project, need a bit more sheet metal according to the drawings right now. That one will take a couple of weeks to get built, once we get started. We're acquiring a plasma cutter for the project, so it WILL be an accurate 6-foot-tall model.

make sure all the hydraulics (liquid cooled sys.) and pneumatics (air flow) all tuned up b4 u shot up that beast (pc)

@ pezs: it will NEVER overheat. 2 fans bring in air from the side, 1 larger fan is placed in the front air intake (all that yellow plastic up front). We rigged in a liquid-cooling system for someone else to use (if I build a PC that needs a liquid-cooling system, then I have made a serious mistake...)

Wow! I'm kind of a fabrication enthusiast, could I get a close up of the welds? What do you use, MIG or TIG (or Arc)? That is so $%#$% neat, man!

(I can't weld worth a damn, I spend all my time on the mill)

Okay, I can't weld, either, but my brother is slowly teaching me. He says the majority of structural welds were stick, fine detail was MIG, and that the next one we build will be all TIG (because once this one sells, we're buying a high frequency TIG machine and plasma cutter.)

Anyway, here's a couple of close-up weld pics...

First, the ankle area:




Here's a shot of the shoulder LRM-pod from above:







My brother is outraged if I even attempt to grind some of his more artistic welds, but has decided to let me live. The ankle area is composed of quarter-inch plate steel, and I ground out his welds to a smooth rounded finish on the edges. On the upper ankle, you can still see the welds where the lower leg attaches. No point in grinding those thin welds on the sheet metal of the LRM pod.

My first job out of school was as a metal polisher on Stainless steel milk vats. I could take a neat weld and make it invisible, and take a crappy one and get it pretty close. All with a pretty satin finish.

The work you guys did on that beast is awesome. Great job guys
