I would like to be able to be damaged beyond battlefield effectiveness, eject, and then continue the fight on the ground amidst NPC infantry, vehicles, or ETC. Heck, I would like that, but please do give me a MANPAD. No good fighting Battlemechs with a shotgun or a rifle, unless you get lucky, and it is the equivalent of a Barrett .50cal Antimaterial Rifle and you manage to get a shot off on the pilot in the cockpit of that nasty ******* that just put a hole the size of a semi right through your reactor core.
Ergo: Battles should consist of more than just Battlemechs duking it out. The commander should have vehicle, aerospace, and infantry support at his disposal to help him/her acquire the objective. After all: You can't hold a civic center or city hall with a 50 ton Bushwacker. It can't enter and clear a building. Infantry can.

The power of your gun is irrelevant when your head is separated from your body before you can pull the trigger.

You miss the point.......
Id not like to have NPC for everything infantry does, if infantry exists at all on go-live. Let us play the infantry sometime. Fine, if you dont think you can cut it in the field in the trenches you stay in the cockpit. I for one would welcome the challenge of doing multiple things in the universe. It would be cool to be an aerospace pilot too. If you want to limit yourself that's fine by me. But Id love to rock and roll in every aspect in the universe if possible. It would make it a more complete Battletech/Mechwarrior Universe. Now, do I think it will happen? No, not right away at least.
It is a game after all.....but I guess some of you miss that point.
No you missed the point. The game is being done at the scale of mechs, adding all the stuff that would also make it work for Infantry scale (that is, playing as them), as well as Aerospace Pilots. Would make it difficult in the extreme to balance the game for it to be fun for everyone playing.
Do you understand the level of slaughter a mech does with flamers or machineguns against infantry?
Why should YOU (that is any mechpilot) be able to outshine all those NPC infantry, take a hit from a mech weapon and survive, As well as theoretically take down a mech with a single infantry weapon?
The people in the mechs are also other players, should you have an advantage over other infantry. It's not Mechassault, where you're an uberwarrior, and it's not a singleplayer game.
On the ground, infantry can move about 10KPH (and that's like runnign a marathon in three hours, so realistically, they couldn't do it for long. Especially while in some armor and carrying weapons and other supplies.
Buildings would have to be designed internally so infantry could have a chance in urban areas, and they simple wouldn't have a chance in open terrain. For NPC infantry, you don't need that, they go inside a building then fire comes from the building.
Having Mechwarriors be uberinfantry that can run at decent percentages of mech speed (without stopping) carrying weapons that can damage mechs, and super armor so the first hit from anything doesn't kill them is flat out stupid. Infantry get SLAUGHTERED by mechweapons, Inferno missiles (as an example) can take out an entire platoon in one shot, artillery is even nastier.
For Aerospace Fighters, there are other problems. While maps are slated to be a few Kilometers across, even a slow Aerospace Fighter can cover that in a few seconds. So to include them as playable units you would either have to vastly enlarge the maps or slow the fighters down. The first option won't happen, because that can ruin the experience for mechs, especially in a line of sight sensor system, and the second option is lame.
When I say it's a waste of resources, I say that because the game is about piloting a mech, spending time making it possible to play as PBIs and Aerospace pilots wouldn't improve the game, they would reduce the focus on mechpiloting, and inevitably delay the game's release, and reduce the quality of play as a mechwarrior.
It's not about not wanting the challenge, or about wanting to "limit myself". It's about the game being made well as a mechwarrior game.

Failing that, the radio is; because you can call the artillery guy, or the battleship, or the dude with the 'mech...
Verybad... I think you've been reading my polemics for a bit too long. You're starting to get good at it... :]

Smart HE rounds defuse themselves because they know what's up...
And a Colt 1911? In 3049? You had a thousand and forty years to convert over to 10mm auto, and you still use a 1911? Please tell me it's at least modified for double-stack mags.

Smart AP/HE rounds are either AP or HE depending on how solid, or soft, the target it hits.
Little needs to be done to the 1911. It'll hold 14 rouds.

"[Insert Chinese I can't remember] You offering me a trade?"
"A trade? Hell, it's theft. This is the best gun made by man, it has extreme sentimental value. It's miles more worthy than what you got."
"What I got? She has a name."
"So does this. I call her Vera."
Also, Nathan K, the 1911 only holds 7 rounds standard, need modified double-stack magazines to get 14 in it. Which is what Prosperity mentioned.

Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
My mech is my only true friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
My mech, without me, is worthless. Without my mech, I am worthless . I must pilot my mech with skill. I must pilot better than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must defeat them before they defeat me. I will never falter...
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
My mech and myself know that what counts in this war is not the weapons we fire, the noise of our tread, nor the victories we gain. We know that it is the duty that counts. We will remember...
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
My mech is human, even as I, because it is my all. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its weapons, its limbs and its armor . I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and theft as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my mech loaded and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
Before the Star League, I swear this creed. My mech and myself are the defenders of our House. We are the masters of the Clans. We
are the saviors of all.
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
So be it, until victory for the Inner Sphere and there is no war, but peace!
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!
Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah!

Also... being "dispossessed" (while an unpopular thought perhaps) was a rather important part of good old Battletech/Mechwarrior as I recall.

REMOVE THE STUPID LADDERS FROM THE ATLAS' LEGS!!!!
Makes it too easy for the infantry to reach the knees with satchel charges.
