Damon looked back to see the windows in the bar blow out from a deafening explosion. "Hopefully, those guys aren't still in there."
Turning back to the alley, Damon took point. "Yes, I'm a mechwarrior, probably same as you. I'm holed up at the main militia base here in Rundvik, which is undoubtedly under attack."
Damon moved to the end of the alley, poking his head around the corner to the next street, which seemed only slightly calmer than the street the bar was on.
"The others will most likely make their way there too, as the base is close to the spaceport. I know enough of the back alleys to get us there, but we're going to have to cross a lot of streets."
Seeing the coast was mostly clear, he gave a countdown signal then rushed out into the fray, making sure to cross the street in under 5 seconds. As soon as he got across he turned around and signalled back, covering his partner with the shotgun. He hoped there was a slug round in the chamber.

After steadying himself, James ran across the street as well, managing to avoid drawing any fire. It would appear that news of the resistance from the bar had not yet made it to the merc command, and that was giving them precious time to get away from the scene.
"What are you piloting bud? I sure as hell hope its big..."

"Well, big can be kinda relative you know....it's a Jenner."
Not wanting to see James' expression, he decided instead to continue his way down the alley, were there wasn't any resistance save a couple of civilians either rushing by or cowering behind dumpsters. After muttering a few apologies, Damon kept his sights ahead, making sure they didn't make any wrong turns.
"What about you? Where's your mech, and what are you piloting these days?"

Graaf winced as the carelessly thrown grenade shredded what was left of the Windborne Raven, along with the injured left inside. He swore to himself that he would hold whoever had panicked responsible for the destruction in a duel before this was over, but for now, survival had to be the priority.
He sheathed his sword as he looked around at his fellow survivors; most of the civilians had run down the alley already, led by Alvfinnur into the woods, leaving only a few, all Mechwarriors by the look of it, most of whom had been at his table before.
"Alright. We'll have to get to our 'Mechs if we want a fighting chance. The Dalians will be looting the mechbays by now, so we should stick together, take our 'Mechs back one-by-one, then head for the hills, taking as many of the Dalians with us as possible.
From there, I don't know. Hebridan has the only real military force on this world, and by the time we get there most of Rundvik will be a crater. Lina, is your dropship armed? It seems fair to assume the Dalians will have brought something serious as their getaway plan, so a frontal assault would be foolish, but another dropship might even the odds."

Inwardly, James was frowning. "A Jenner won't last very long in a mess like this - they are meant to keep out of scraps, not resolve them." James thought but didn't say. His new friend seemed know his way around, and the last thing he wanted was to **** off his guide by insulting his mech. When they paused at the end of the alley before crossing the next street, James took out his datapad and scrolled to the last message his chief tech had sent him to find the location of his mech.
"Apparently my mech is in a servicing bay adjacent to the militia base. Let's head that way and see how bad it is before trying to sneak in and get our mechs. I'm sure the mechbays were the first places those a-holes tried to lock down." Peeking out to get a look at the street, James noticed a new message on his datapad. Opening it up, he discovered it was from his dropship commander.
"Due to ongoing hostilities, and a lack of communication from Robinson Ranger personnel off-ship, I have declared the area around the Panther a free fire area. Any persons entering a 200m ring around this vessel will be fired upon. Any Robinson personnel, please call in using today's codephrase to be designated a friendly. If no traffic is received within 48hours, we will depart into orbit. Out."
James looked at Raven, "Well bud, we've got a Leopard class dropship waiting to take us off world - let's have some mechs to load in it shall we?"

"I suspect my Dervish is with everyone else's 'Mechs, and I agree that we need to recover them post-haste. But...what other information do we have on this Dalian Guard'? I'm afraid this is my first time hearing about them. Knowing the size & composition of hte opposing force would be a big help."

Thom was pissed, the nerve of those dirty rotten ****s. As he made his way to the garage he was renting, he thought over the last few minutes.
He was busy plotting his own action when the bearded man covertly gave intructions to everyone at the table assigning them targets. Catching the movement of the milf out of the corner of his eye sprang him into action, flinging his pint backhanded with his off hand at the merc rounding up everyones cash didn't hit, but it did distract him long enough for Thom to pull his pistol get off two shots.
The soft hum of the laser pistol sounded weak compared to the Lyrans slug thrower, but prroved just as deadly. The first touched the man in the right hip, searing through uniform flesh and bone. He didn't have a chance to aim his second shot too well due to the sudden whoosh and sudden flash as the man packed flamer ignighted. His shot hit the man over his nametag on the uniforms left breast. The redclad merc spun as he collapsed letting off a long burst with his assault rifle that tore through a the topheavy barmaid and one unfortunate tech. Not taking any chances and having faith in his new found companions he strolled up to the wailing mercenary and shot him execution style in the head [[he is a Cappy after all.]]
After that things were kinda blury. He remembered people scattering in the confusion, a couple of offduty techs went out the front door and were gunned down just beyond the door by machine gun fire. He trodded on the back way with the locals he knew that but he didn't remember it all, but he did remember something about a grenade, a fire, and the muffled roar of an autocannon.
Looks at the group consisting of Lina and Graff and desides to add his two cents.
[[not sure if we splitted up or not... I'm thinking we did.]]
"Hey, I'ms thinking that a dropship is nice an all, but shouldn't we worry about getting to our ride's first? Longer we wait the more likely we join the disspossed.. You know what, I'm outta here."
Turns to leave.
"Oh yeah, my callsign is Bad Luck,, my mech's over in the warehouse side of town.I'll be monotioring the comms if you guys need me."
And with that he ran back to the garage.

"Let's go, we gotta get out of this **** NOW!!"
you didnt have to tell him twice Nathan followed Draco to the Bar firing a burst from his pistol to supress the remaining merc. Draco pointed him through a hatch the Bartender had just opened, Nathan fired a burst and exited through the hatch, he turned to cover Draco when he saw it, as if in slow motion, Draco threw a grenade
"Grenade get the f*ck down" Nathan communicated his panic,
Draco ran out the hatch and dived to the side. The hatch was filled with a rain of shrapnel and shortly after filled with fire.
There was a pause as they all stood outside taking a head count of survivors. The silence was broken by the talk of a dropship.
"Im heading for the Spaceport, My Marauder is onboard my dropship, If anyones short a mech we have a salvaged Urban Mech We got off the pirates. Its not much but every AC20 helps"

Of course it didnt came off according to plan. Someone always had to be a little impatient, a little ahead of himself. And so when the Delian Guards went all, "Hands in the air, give us all you got!", Azman cursed inwardly. It was all going so smoothly.
When Grafvitnir signalled Azman for action, Azman gave the KungsArme soldier a sheepish smile. So when the inevitable fight back occurred, (Those Delian Guards did know they were trying to rob from mechwarriors didnt they?), Azman with movement that spoke of much practice, ran and hid under a table. And when the front door was clear (did that Lyran woman just set one Delian Guard on fire?), Azman took it as a sign to get some fresh air and fled. Grafvitnir and the rest seemed like a nice bunch all but... best to always choose your battles, especially the ones that dont get you killed.
Azman did not get very far when the Windborne Raven exploded.
"Mah Seh Fa Toh Leh." Azman swore in corrupted periphery dialect, shaking his head.
They actually used freaking grenades. Fa Toh Leh.
Gunfire was now heard throughout the streets of the city. The Operation had begun.
--------------------------
Azman waited for 10 minutes or so before going back to the wrecked Windborne Raven, to survey and loot, err... salvage anything of value.
They really did a number to this place.
Heavy boots thumped on the ground and before Azman knew it, six Delian Guards with assault rifles pointed unfriendly like at him. Azman smile sheepishly, raising his hands. Then slowly, made the hand signals he was taught.
The Delian Guards did not lower their rifles.
Suspicious fellows arent they.
One of the Delian Guards, obviously the leader, stepped forward. Azman, very slowly, went for his inner pockets of his browncoat and produced a little kuritan geisha doll with a big head that wobbled. Azman pressed a hidden button to switch off the device.
"Some of your men went too ahead of themselves", Azman began, "Here, give this to your paymaster. Its all recorded. Their faces, the conversation. The nano-tag pheromones had been emitted. You will know all their whereabouts for 48 hours, 72 if fortune smiles. You should start for the spaceport and mech bays now though. They..." Azman waved to what was left of the Windborne Raven, "did all this and they were just having drinks. Imagine what they will do when they are on their mechs." Azman smiled.
The Delian Guards did not say a word, took the little geisha doll and left, heavy boots thumping. Azman shrugged and continued his looting, err salvaging.
It was then he saw motion. One of the Delian Guard from earlier, who made the mistake of pointing his weapon at people he shouldnt, was on the floor. He was burnt, badly, his right hand clawing pathetic about. Poor shmuk still alive. The man's face was melted, eyes burnt off. Azman knew this Delian Guard will die slowly. From what he can tell of the Delian Guards, they were not exactly a honourable bunch. And this man chose his comrades. Still...the dying man was a mercenary and a sort of professional courtesy needed to be observed.
Azman grasped the Delian Guard clawing hand firmly into his. Azman did not know if the Delian Guard could hear, his ears had melted too, so Azman leaned very close, almost loving like, and whispered,
"Your comrades have not come for you. They will not come for you. You will die slow. Painful..."
Azman took out a small syringe from his pocket, given for the mission he was suppose to do.
...quick and painless... the target will not suffer....
"I will inject you with something. You will sleep. And that will be that.... Ready yourself."
Azman gave the Delian Guard a moment, then jabbed the syringe into the dying man's arm.
Azman felt the man's lifebeat slowing, slowed, fading...
"Cling thee not to this world," Azman whispered softly, taking a line from a common death prayer among soliders, "as it holds for you no more."
The man died then and there.
Azman remained, quiet for a moment, etching yet another dead face to his memories. Azman then placed the dead man's hand to the man's chest and began to check the dead man's pockets. Azman found the dead mercenary's wallet and took out the c-bills as his.
Azman returned to his scavaging.
He was not surprise when he received the call in his phone.
"Mushi Mushi" Azman sang, his eyes cold. A voice from the other line spoke. "Umh... umh... umh.... Unfortunately some of your men jumped the gun sort to speak. Have lost visual on target. You do need to be more circumspect in your hiring of people. I have however handed the device to one of yours. Face, conversation all recorded. The nano-tag pheromones have been emitted. You will know their locations for 48 to 72 hours. I have to warn you though that the target has acquired... allies. Your food may prove to be... problematic."
The voice on the other line spoke.
"Umh...umh... Any change of objectives will cost, of course. Umh... agreed. May fortune smiles on you and your endeavours. Domo."
The call was over. Azman looked around the wreck that was the Windborne Raven.
"Simple contract..." he mused.
Seeing that's no more loot to be had, Azman decided it was a good time for a leisurely stroll to the spaceport. He hopes by the time he gets there, any battle would be over and he will have choice loot, err, salvage to pick clean.

Draco shook his head, no, he had to get to his mech bay. He crouched and got everyone together.
"Guys, most of our equipment is in the Space port right? Well, thankfully, I had planned for something like this, and my brother is currently in the air right now, so, we have our mechs and equipment cached here,"
He drew a small map in the dirt, marked a point for the remains of the raven, and then marked another point that represented the spaceport. He then went into the opposite direction that went into the countryside, and drew a point that represented the cache.
"Now, we can for sure get to my mech, and some vehicles, but seeing as they have this place under attack, we need to take the safest possible action, so, Nathan, you and me, we'll take point on formation,"
Draco's sense of direction thankfully seemed to be accurate, and started to lead the group down the tunnel.

1. There's no central spaceport. The landing pads, ranging from big, high-tech gantries to mostly clearings in the forest, are scattered around the perimiter of the city, as it said in the intro.
2. Also no military or militia base. As it said in the intro, some minor KungsArme depots and technicians, but the Dalian Guard are attempting this because there are a bunch of 'Mechs for the taking and no coordinated defenses.
3. Sorry Wolf, but the bartender already left, leading the civilians to safety.
4. Damon, cool plan, but unfortunately there's no military base, and HPG generators are pretty much always at higher altitude and away from cities, I'd planned it would be in the highlands toward the center of the peninsula if anyone wanted to try to get there. As for the mercenaries' plans, if they were to overload another dropship's fusion generator as they took off, not much would be left but a crater to report them to the MRBC, and since they'd have stolen merc's mechs, it would be near impossible to figure that they were stolen.
Other than those minor points, this is going awesomely! I'm impressed!]]

As for the Dalians, I have not heard of them, but Sisgurd is old and wise, and no company passes through Rundvik without his knowledge. If anyone here can tell us about them, it will be him.
Whoever they are, they are ambitious. Today will indeed be a glorious battle."

Here's where I think everyone is at the moment:
Graaf, Lina, Nathan, and (I think) Draco: Alley behind the Windborne Raven still.
Thom: Just split off from the above group to recover his 'Mech himself.
James and Damon: Bolted out the front door, found cover in another alley near the bar.
Azman: Returned to the Raven, now heading for the starport, revealed to be working with the Dalian Guard, possibly with another objective on the side.]]
