[[Hell yes! There are probably a few mechwarriors running about in the same situation we've found ourselves in. Just introduce yourself and start with where your character's gotten to at this point, I'm sure we'll come across a good point for your character to run into us!]]

What the **** did you do this time, Damon!?

Granted, there was a good chance that Damon had absolutely nothing to do with the oncoming 'mechs that had announced their intentions to occupy the depot they were stationed in. But one never knows.

Regardless, he wasn’t in the best mood at the moment. On first news that unidentified ‘mechs were approaching the depot, he had made his way to the mechbays as quickly as he could. When the techs asked why he wanted his ‘mech combat-ready “immediately if not sooner,” they were answered with a glare and a short reply. “Just get my ‘mech ready, please.”

Less than ten minutes later…
Reactor: Online.
Sensors: Online.
Weapons: Online.
All Systems: Nominal.
…the Grand Dragon was moving out from the mechbay, passing by a Jenner on its way out.

“Time to see what all the fuss is about…” He grumbled to himself.

You got sufficiently drunk as to forget that I made planetfall the same time alongside you.

While you were hanging out in exploding bars (the explosion I do not know about, btw), I had opted to buy some extra equipment instead (hence i now have two guns and two knives :) )

Having gotten my stuff done quickly, I went back to base with the intention of picking up your drunk *** in about an hour. Hardly 20 minutes went by until some punks show up saying they want my stuff. I just got my mech, so I'll be darned if i'm gonna just fork it over to a bunch of... mercs!

Besides, it's not like the Överste would send a korpal to check things out alone, even if it is a little light recon mission.

[[PS welcome Orc. I don't know if you have followed the whole thread or not - but all of us are still on foot, and a goodly number of mercs are in mechs and heading your way. Play it how you want but it's likely you have at least a lance heading your way, with you by your lonesome. Idk how long it will be before we get there, but timeline wise I think your last post was a little earlier than the most recent action. Since the bar blew up, I'd guess it's been about 20 minutes in the story, and we are about 20 mins away from getting to the depot. Therefore, from you walking yourmech out of the depot to face the mercs, you have about 30 mins before any of us can help. Just factor that in if you decide to stand and fight with them. No word though on mech weightclasses, but some of them are packing autocannons. Can't wait to see how you do :) ]]

Damon nodded. The mechbays would be the first place they locked down, which would mean a two-man infiltration team would go downhill in a big hurry.

Peeking out into another street, which seemed quiet for the moment, Damon surveyed the area before ducking back into the alley behind a dumpster with his partner. The adreniline was starting to wear off after 20 minutes of running through alleys, and despite maintaining calm until this point, the stress of his first ground battle outside of his cockpit was starting to mess with him. Taking a few deep breaths, Damon began to outline what he knew of the space between them and the depot where his and where he thought James' mechs were located.

"Okay, the depots from what I remember are lightly guarded...no real obstacles in our way other than a barbwire fence, which probably doesn't exist anymore in a few places." Damon outlined the facility, which consisted of 5 main buildings. The largest two sat on opposite East/West ends of the compound, On the North side where a pair of smaller buildings, with the final building in the Southwest corner of the depot. Damon circled this building.

"We head for this building. It's the main office for the depot, but they have some barracks on the 2nd and 3rd floors for the techs to sleep, which is where I've been staying. The first floor is all office space, mostly computers and stuff, which is probably all raided too. The fourth floor is mainly storage space, though its pretty empty."

Pointing to the two largest buildings, he said, "These are the mechbays. Mine is in the one closest to the office, but it's on the opposite end of the building. Getting to it will be difficult, but there are several back doors we might be able to access. The last two buildings are mainly equipment and spare parts storage. That'll likely be crawling with people."

Pointing back to the office, he said, "There's an emergency escape out back, but it'll immediately sound the fire alarm. We'll have to go in the front door, and my stuff is on the third floor. I doubt they have time to pick through people's belongings, so as long as the first floor is clear, we should have no trouble. From there we can decide a gameplan. Is that alright?"

James listened carefully as Raven outlined his plan in the dirt of the alley. The layout seemed to make sense from what little he remembered of the depot, he'd been tired as hell when he'd walked from there to the bar. Thank goodness it wasn't that far. From the diminishing sounds of battle and intermittant rifle cracks, the mercs were beginning to lock down the town. They needed to move fast.

"I've got a small go bag in the cockpit of my mech, but thats about it. The rest of my stuff is onboard the dropship. At least I still have my cooling vest with me. I like this plan though. Let's get your stuff - you have any weapons there? Then we'll assess the depot and fire up our mechs."

James thought for a moment and then continued. "Some of my techs are probably at the depot still - they were working on my mech right up until this crap went down. We need to determine their status before we head out. Since you know the way, and have the bigger gun, I'll follow you."

Peeking out around the corner of the building they were hiding behind, James noticed two mercs coming out a building, personal belongings and loot filling their arms. A third merc stood laughing along the side of the building as he watched his friends struggle with the valuables.

Thom was halfway up the alley when he first heard the fighter pass overhead. A dull boom as the fighter went super sonic followed a few seconds later the scream as the fighter tore across the sky. Then quickly followed by the sounds of explosions and screams of the dying.

Turning he could see the glow of fire against the bricks of the walls and billowing black smoke soaring skyward over the rooftops. He turned and went back the way he just came. The scene that greeted him was nightmarish, bodies lay strew about the street like a angry childs playthings. The tank at the intersection had flames shooting out of the rent torn through its frontal armor, and it's crew ran about aflame, screaming for someone to put them out of their misery.

One of the hover pickups was cut in half, the two pieces on either side of the road twisted and broken. The other one lay halfway through the large glass windows of a candyshop.

There were survivors, armed men wondering about in the smoke and debris confused like they just woke up from a bender not knowing where they were.

Thom saw his chance and took it. With Nakjama in hand, he ran out of the alley heading for the candied hover pickup. Making his way the hundred feet or so to the truck, using what cover he could find, he passed by one half of the burning wreckage and blundered into a bandit. The man seemed dazed, but not quite confused.

"Hey, a-"

A jade green bolt from the pistol cut the man off. And Thom continued on his way.

Nearing his destination he could hear the truck idling a bit rough, but idling none the less. There was a man in the cab but he was slumped over with blood oozing from what remained of his face.

Checking his suroundings he noticed more men stumbling around, but none seemed to notice him. Clambering up the side he quickly checked the feed belt on the machinegun and seeing it intact, laughed and yanked back on the bolt racking a new round.

"YO A-HOLES, KARMA'S A B***H!!!

And with that the canvas tearing sound once again filled the air. More bodies crumpled and fell broken, sometimes cut in half.

Draco watched the man cross the street, and then took cover behind a building as he watched the man mount and start to shoot the HMG. He had just watched Nathan finally get across when some more mercs discovered their position, and began to fire. Draco stayed in cover and returned fire with his pistol. Draco watched as a man tried to throw a grenade at the truck, and it landed a few feet away. Draco instinctively fired and overcharged shot at the grenade, and launched it away from the truck, to have it explode a second later. Luckily it was far enough away that all it would do, was ring his ears a little. Draco signaled over to the man to get over here while he covered him.

The scene in the street was chaos. Seeing the bodies of townsfolk scattered in the street made Graaf's blood boil. These Dalians were no honorable foe, they were vultures, preying on the weak for their own gain. They deserved no mercy.
With a shout, he drew his sword and charged. Few were still standing in the withering crossfire, and Graaf set about cutting down those who remained. The high-frequency vibrations in the blade let it cut through flesh and bone with little resistance, and soon between the chatter of the truck-mounted HMG, the cover fire from the alley and Graaf's ferocious charge the street was clear.

"More will be coming. Soon. Hopefully this has drawn away those guarding the Mechbays; if we climb the fire escape there we can reach the next street before they arrive here. Sisgurd's workshop is not far."
His head pounding with adrenaline, Graaf sheathed his sword and set about climbing the wrought-iron ladder that would lead them up and over the row of buildings.

He saw the bearded man charge out of the corner of his eye. A big, hairy, bladewielding, berserker running down the street striking down every Dalian he saw. Weapon, uniform, flesh and bone offered no resistance to the high frequency blade. Thom seeing this and along with the two firing from the alley way offered covering fire. Soon everything became quiet and the gore splattered man returned. A fire smoldering in his eye, blade still humming and began to talk about something.

"What?!"

His ears hurt, they ringed from the explosions and from the HMG. Thom half stumbled half fell off the side of the truck. Feeling weak he sat there watching the man climb up the fire escape.

"Why's don't we's take the truck?"

He stuck his thumb over his shoulder at the truck. It was then that he noticed that he was resting against the truck, it's lift skirt was shredded by the grenade explosion and small arms fire. And an angry his came from the gagged hole next to where his head was resting.

"Oh's dat's probably why."

He sighed then hauled himself back up to his feat.

"So much for a quick get away."

He began to slowly head on over to the fire excape and he couldn't help but notice a slight tremor in the ground, a steady rythmatic tremor that seemed to be getting stronger with every passing second.

[Oh no!! I went there!! ;) ]]

With more urgancy he moved faster, almost flying up the fire excape. Reaching the rooftop he chanced a look back he saw a hullking metal form stroll into the intersection

"Vulcan!"

Damon thought over what James said. Yes, they would definitely have to check on the techs. If they were going into hell, he'd prefer to have as many people on his side as possible. And if that meant taking a detour so that his partner was satisfied, so be it.

"My go bag and equipment are in a locker on the third floor, along with my suit and helmet. That's the only reason we need to go there first. After that we'll look for the techs."

Damon registered that James seemed to be distracted, and followed his line of sight. Not 50 meters away, across the street and in the direction they were heading, were three looters, looting away. Two had their arms full, but one was simply laughing...probably the leader.

Knowing they were running out of time, Damon ejected the first three rounds in his shotgun, making sure that they were indeed slug rounds. Then he checked the ammo bag. The bag was small, but he smiled when he saw two boxes of twenty rounds each, one marked 'slug' and the other 'buckshot'. He noticed a few were missing by the sound they made when he shook them, but he estimated they were at least half full.

Reloading the slug rounds, Damon took up a line-of-sight on the leader, steadying his aim as he whispered a plan.

"I'll take the empty-handed one first. You'll be able to get a few shots off at the other two before they can draw anything, and I'll clean up if you happen to miss. Either way, as soon as they're down, we both sprint for the alleyway next to the store. I'll guard front and right, you cover back and left. We run 6 steps into the alley then pause to collect ourselves. Copy?"

Damon didn't have to wait long to hear his affirmation by seeing the man draw a line of sight as well.

Damon breathed out, then squeezed the trigger.

Cool beans.

How about this? One of your reports comes in shortly after I sign on with the unit. The Överste decides to test my mettle (and my 'mech, still wearing its fresh coat of paint after its customization) and sends me to check up on you. Since your proper pickup isn't scheduled for another week or so, I'm left with commandeering a civilian vessel that was already en route. Seeing as how we both have associations with the Dragoons, he figured you would be a good person to measure my worth. However, in lieu of actually looking for you upon landing, I decide to properly arm myself first and then head back to base upon realizing that I have no idea where you actually are.

And my initial outburst stemmed from my ignorance of your location and your previous actions planetside.

Well, either everyone is dead, or they’ve got some serious jamming going on here…

As the Grand Dragon slowly made its way between the buildings, constant attempts to reach anybody on the radio were answered with static or silence.

Seeing as the entire place isn’t up in flames yet, I would imagine it would mostly be the latter…

He heard a loud crash nearby. The Grand Dragon came to a stop, the jutting torso mere inches from poking past the corner of the building.

Taking a deep breath, he took a ‘mech a few steps back.

Alright, just a quick look.

He pushed the throttle forward and the Grand Dragon suddenly sprinted forward. Still propelled by its forward momentum, he pulled the throttle back and then twisted the torso to the left. The left arm had scrapped up against the building, but remained hidden.

Perfect

The Hunchback was standing only about 300 meters ahead of him. The ‘mech, and its massive AC/20, had been pointed away to its left but began to swing around just as the Grand Dragon began to reverse.

They both took a snapshot at each other. The PPC went high, grazing the AC/20 before continuing harmlessly into the sky. The AC/20 slug impacted the corner of the building, shaking the foundations and the ‘mech attempting to hide behind it.

That was close…!

Before the Hunchback could take another shot, the Grand Dragon was safely around the corner. He stopped after taking two more steps to assess his situation.

Ok. Now he knows I’m here…

He heard the Hunchback’s footsteps as it approached, cautiously but steadily.

Well, his AC/20 does outgun my PPC in a short-range brawl…
And this ‘mech is supposedly only supposed to be providing fire support…

He glanced over to his ‘mech’s left hand as it took a few more steps backwards.

The grin was still on his face as he pushed the throttle yet again.

When the Hunchback finally turned the corner, the Grand Dragon was charging towards it, still picking up speed as its arm was raised over its head, hatchet in hand.

Thom was transfixed on the enemy mech as it aquwardly strode forth down the street. He took in every detail as the rest of his companions climbed up the ladder onto the roof. He memorized every replacement patch and ruststain on its armor. But he couldn't help notice the way it struggled to walk.

Must be some actuator damage, or maybe this guy just ain't dat good. But you don't have to be Gray Noton to deadly...

As if on que, the arm witht he autocannon snapped up [left arm? I don't have any TRO's handy] vomiting fire and death the shells flew downrange and into what was going to be his getaway car. The light armor plating held up for a second against the onslaught of the autocannon before exploding in a fireball which destroyed the rest of the candy shop, tearing a good chuck of the building off and shaking the rest of the building in the area.

Thom ducked. as shrapnel flew everywhere in a lazy chaotic patern...

"Jesus!"

In the distance Thom saw an azure mandmade lightning bolt shoot up into the sky.

Particle Cannon fire.

James looked down the sight of his flechette pistol and lined up one of the mercs. He was about to say that they were too far away for him to be effective when an enormous boom, and the squeal of an aerospace fighter flying overhead made James involuntarily flinch. The sound occurred just as Raven was firing, causing him to pull his aim lower than he would have liked. The slug round tore into the laughing mercs leg just above the knee - amputating it completely. As he fell to the ground, James began running for the alley way across the street, hoping to get closer so that he could use his pistol. Halfway across the street, Raven's shotgun boomed again, catching one of the stunned mercs in the chest, throwing him backward. At this point the remaining merc threw himself back inside the building he had just come from.

James waved Raven to cross the street as well, and began firing wildly at the door and window of the building the merc was in. The flechette rounds splintered some wood, but did no further damage.

Once Raven was safely across the street, James turned to his comrade.

"Raven, I know we are running out of time, and we can't afford to draw attention to ourselves, but I need one of those assault rifles. If I'm going to be any good to you, I need a better weapon. Cover me while I go snag one."

James slowly crept back out into the street, using some garbage cans as cover. The merc who lost his leg had already passed out from blood loss, and nothing could be seen of the merc inside. James grabbed the dead merc and pulled him to the side of the building and began looting his body for supplies. He took the man's slung assault rifle, along with an ammo mag pouch on the mans tactical vest. He checked for grenades but the man did not have any. Lastly, he picked up the dead merc's tactical radio and stashed it in his BDU pocket.

Once James had returned to Raven, he removed the radio and activated it. Harsh and panicked yelling could be heard on the radio, directing someone to a street. Both James and Raven looked up to see the street name on the Radio was the same one they had just crossed. The merc that escaped was vectoring mech reinforcements to his postion.

James turned to Raven, his expression grave.

"We need to get the hell out of here."

In the distance they could hear the rhythmic thump of an approaching mech.
