James looked down the sight of his flechette pistol and lined up one of the mercs. He was about to say that they were too far away for him to be effective when an enormous boom, and the squeal of an aerospace fighter flying overhead made James involuntarily flinch. The sound occurred just as Raven was firing, causing him to pull his aim lower than he would have liked. The slug round tore into the laughing mercs leg just above the knee - amputating it completely. As he fell to the ground, James began running for the alley way across the street, hoping to get closer so that he could use his pistol. Halfway across the street, Raven's shotgun boomed again, catching one of the stunned mercs in the chest, throwing him backward. At this point the remaining merc threw himself back inside the building he had just come from.
James waved Raven to cross the street as well, and began firing wildly at the door and window of the building the merc was in. The flechette rounds splintered some wood, but did no further damage.
Once Raven was safely across the street, James turned to his comrade.
"Raven, I know we are running out of time, and we can't afford to draw attention to ourselves, but I need one of those assault rifles. If I'm going to be any good to you, I need a better weapon. Cover me while I go snag one."
James slowly crept back out into the street, using some garbage cans as cover. The merc who lost his leg had already passed out from blood loss, and nothing could be seen of the merc inside. James grabbed the dead merc and pulled him to the side of the building and began looting his body for supplies. He took the man's slung assault rifle, along with an ammo mag pouch on the mans tactical vest. He checked for grenades but the man did not have any. Lastly, he picked up the dead merc's tactical radio and stashed it in his BDU pocket.
Once James had returned to Raven, he removed the radio and activated it. Harsh and panicked yelling could be heard on the radio, directing someone to a street. Both James and Raven looked up to see the street name on the Radio was the same one they had just crossed. The merc that escaped was vectoring mech reinforcements to his postion.
James turned to Raven, his expression grave.
"We need to get the hell out of here."
In the distance they could hear the rhythmic thump of an approaching mech.
"Agreed."
Having reloaded with ammo from his bag while he was waiting, Damon took the lead again and tore through the alley. It was only one more street to cross and another alley before they would arrive at the depot, and Damon REALLY wanted his Jenner. Granted, without a dancing partner his Jenner was only good for a one-shot-run-like-hell, it still felt better than running around without even so much as a kevlar vest.
The sound of heavy footsteps forced them to stop several times in the alley, but fortunately there were enough dumpsters and trash bags to hide behind that they avoided another fight. Damon knew though a couple of patrols where the least of his concern now though. Another loud crack and a burst of light followed by a screech filled the alleyway, making Damon rub his ears in irritation.
As they came to the alleyway entrance, they stumbled across a rare sight. As patrols were busy clearing the area, running away in all directions, a Grand Dragon was backing up down the street, towards their current position. It stopped just as it rounded the corner, pausing for a reason Damon Did not know. Damon took a look at the markings...judging by how the patrols were running away from the mech, it wasn't friendly...to them at least. However, at this distance and given it was still night, he couldn't discern its markings.
Then, a couple things happened. The patrols stopped running and started getting organized. There were at least 3 or 4 nearby, all holed up in buildings beside and across from them. A tank, too far away to make out opposite to the Dragon, started making its way down the street. And the Dragon itself moved forward, turning the corner almost at a run.
A few seconds pause and several loud booms were heard, followed by a horrific crunch.
Without bothering for a signal Damon took off across the street, grabbing James' vest to make sure he got the jist as well. About halfway across one of the patrols noticed and started firing, but Damon kept on running.
If this area was going to become a full-fledged battlefield, Damon wanted to be on the side with his mech.
[[Will we make it, will we be screwed? Thanks Orc for distracting them for us! ]]

"Phiro, Vulcan on our 12 o'clock, hit him NOW!!!!"
"On him already,"
Draco watched the Centurion fly screaming overhead, and it drew the Vulcan's attention as it fired it's AC 2 at the fighter. Draco watched the fighter dodge easily, and then it maneuvered in for a strike. The Vulcan moved to try and track, but it was just a little too slow. It fired it's flamer to try and spoof the pilot, but to no avail, the medium lasers streaked through the air, and caught Vulcan in the knee actuator. The Vulcan stumbled, but caught itself with its arm, now having it rest on the side of a building. The 'mech never saw what was coming, as Phiro had made another sweep, fired again, severing the arm, and the Vulcan toppled over. Draco then climbed up the fire escape once everyone else was up, and then did a quick salute as Phiro flew past again.

If this area was going to become a full-fledged battlefield, Damon wanted to be on the side with his mech.
The shells impacted around their feet as they made the mad dash across the street, loud booms and the crackle of PPCs coming from the street where the grand dragon had disappeared. Time seemed to slow down for James as the entire world around him exploded for the second time that day. One of the mercs had fired a man portable missile at them, missing widely but exploding amongst the building next to them. An aerospace fighter screamed over head, and more and more mercs stopped to fire at the pair crossing the road.
"Just a few more feet."
Their feet pounding on the hard road surface, the head of a mech appeared above the buildings they had just fled from. The mech that was hunting them had reached the alley they fled from, but was too wide to cross over. Apparently nonjump capable - it began using its arms to bash through the buildings blocking their way.
"Almost there"
James could see the depot fence at the other end of the alley he was running towards. Fixed on the sight, james barely heard Raven scream "DOWN!"
The alley in front of james exploded as the autocannon on the tank shredded the brick and stone in front of James. Hunks of brick slammed into James and knocked him off his feet. Disoriented, James felt himself dragged next to cover and heard the thumping of Raven's shotgun.
"I am not cut out to be an infantryman." James said aloud to no one in particular. Recovering his senses slowly, he unslung his assault rifle and looked for a target. Seeing a lone merc running across the street much as they had, he let off a quick burst that nicked the merc's leg, causing him to stumble out of sight. There was another whump whump whump sound as the tank let off another burst of the autocannon, shattering a wall and raining brick and glass on the two men. Raven ducked down to reload his shotgun and James rose to fire his assault rifle.
His first burst caught a merc across the chest, the rounds walking up from his right hip across his left shoulder dropping him. The sounds of the mechs battling the next street over were getting more intense, and the mech chasing them had almost made it into the street here. James couldn't see the tank from his vantage, but he heard the thrum of it's engine maneuvering. Oblivious to them, a merc with a man portable missile ran past the two crouching men towards the mech battle one street over. Raven's shotgun cut him down only a few feet away.
"We need that missile!" James screamed as the thrumming of the tank's engine grew closer. James looked left through the rubble of the alley towards the mech depot, then back at the missile launcher lying in the street.
"Cover me!" James called out as he sprinted out of cover towards the missile. Pausing momentarily, he saw the tank rumbling down the street, turret pointed towards the mech battle. As james grabbed the rocket launcher's strap, the turret began to traverse towards him. James tossed the launcher towards Raven just as the whump whump whump of the autocannon sounded once more.
The rounds impacted in a line towards James, but he was able to roll out of the way to avoid being obliterated. Scrambling to his feet he dove back into the cover he shared with Raven, obscured from the tank once again. Covered in small cuts, james tried to regain his breath. Seated with his back to the wall, he stared at the mech mired in the ruins of a building not 30 feet away.

The battle cry echoed throughout the cockpit as the Grand Dragon crashed into the Hunchback, sending the smaller ‘mech reeling backwards. Startled by the oncoming adversary, the Hunchback had snap-fired its AC/20. The massive slug ploughed through the edge of the armor plating jutting from the Grand Dragon’s shoulder, but otherwise caused no damage to the left arm, still raised in the air with its hatchet.
Faster! Faster!
The two ‘mechs brought their lasers into the fray. Two medium lasers and a small laser were trading blows with paired medium pulse lasers as the Hunchback continued to be pushed backwards.
Now!
The Grand Dragon stopped suddenly. The Hunchback took another step backwards under its own momentum. With the gap widened slightly, the hatchet came down.
The heavy blade missed the AC/20, instead digging deep into the Hunchback’s shoulder. The right arm stopped firing its laser and began to droop.
Swing around…!
The Grand Dragon’s torso began to turn to its left. As it did so, it pulled the hatchet along. Still stuck in the shoulder, the hatchet in turn began to pull at the Hunchback until it finally pulled free. In the time that the Hunchback had been pulled aside, the AC/20 fired again, blasting the ground next to the Grand Dragon’s foot.
…wow. This guy doesn’t seem to be very good at this…
He raised the PPC arm, which had been swung closer due to the torso turn. The medium pulse lasers continued to pepper the Hunchback’s torso and head.
Right hook!
The ER PPC was pointing directly at the AC/20 as it fired point-blank into the Hunchback. The blast ripped into the ‘mech and came out the other side, punching straight through the enormous gun.
Well, now that that’s out of the way…
The hatchet arm was raised again as the Grand Dragon swung its torso back to the right and began to advance again…

"This is Stoner 4 broadcasting to all frequencys Heavy lance lead by an assault located at grid 173652 need imediate assistance" A loud bang rang out and around 7 blocks away a Urbanmech jumped over a building, a hail of laser LRM and AC rounds plowed into the building seconds after "Stoner 4 has disengaged" The mech disappeared again as it landed in the street. Good to know Logans safe Nathan smiled to himself as he changed frequency on the radio to the Vulkaneers standard frequency "Stoner 4 this is Stoner 2, I am on a rooftop 7 blocks south of your position, Hows your mech holding up? over"
This is Stoner 4, I am criticly low on ammo and my left torso has taken a critical hit, I am enroute back to drop ship to rearm, good to see your safe Nathan, over"
"you too Lugz, I will meet you at drop ship, Stoner 2 out"
"Stoner 2 to Stoner support over"
"This is Stoner support over"
"Mount LB 10-X Autocannon on my Marauder I'll be there shortly over"
"Ok Stoner 2, Be advised Dropship is under attack, advise approach from the west to avoid hostiles"
"Thanks for that. Stoner 2 out."
Nathan turned to the group "ok lets get going"

Raven never thought his chance would come so soon. The chance to shout an incredible one-liner while acting totally bad*ss in the face of danger.
...and he couldn't think of one.
As Autocannon fire rained more shrapnel around them, James looked at him with increasing panic. Undoubtedly his heart was in his throat like Damon's was.
Then it clicked.
Shouldering the launcher and checking the systems, Damon waited a half a second for the tank to finish firing before he popped out from his cover.
"As they say at the Planned Parenthood Clinic, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!!!"
[[yep, that just happened. ]]
The missle flew out of the pod, barely igniting its propellant before it impacted with the tanks turret. The explosion knocked Damon on his *ss, the empty launcher flying out of his arms. Dazed, he reached again for his shotgun as he felt him being dragged to his feet; James returning the favor.
"Come on, that was a nice shot, now lets move!"
Damon struggled for a bit before regaining his orientation, noticing that his face felt a lot hotter than normal. Registering the pain and thinking clearly as he winced, he carefully examined himself as they ran. No blisters and a few cuts, so it was probably just a first degree burn. He could live with that.
As they ran through the alley, albeit a lot less smoothly or well-coordinated than before, all Damon could think about was the lack of pursuit sounds coming behind them. Stopping just short of the alley entrance, Damon listened to confirm. James noticed too, and they both listened. Aside from the explosions, some of which was probably from the tank, there were no footsteps, no yelling, no screaming. Nothing.
That was either really good, or really bad; for them at least.
Peering out the entrance, Damon took a long hard look at the depot across from them. The gate lay in shambles, and several rows of fencing where torn out around the facility as well. Damon could barely make out figures moving around in the mech hangers in the distance, but the office building, the closest of all the buildings, looked clear. Scanning for snipers, which he saw none, Damon was perplexed by the sudden difference in merc presence by one street. He figured the appearance of an enemy mech might have something to do with it, since tank tracks were present all over the area.
Damon now heard shouting in the distance, and he had no doubt it would be coming their way.
"Let's move."
Taking one last look out either side, Damon sprinted across to the office building, thankfully finding no enemies, since he quickly ran out of breath halfway across and only jogged the last 20 meters to the office building entrance. Struggling to lift the shotgun, which had become increasingly heavy, Damon signaled his partner to do the same. It seemed he was just as worn out, as James practically collapsed after the last 10 meters to the building.
Wanting to catch his breath but knowing they were sitting ducks in the open, Damon readied to enter the (hopefully) abandoned office building and collect his gear.
[[I'll leave the next part to you Nomad. remember, our first 'goal' is the 3rd floor. ]]
[[Further note: we're just a mess aren't we?]]

Grafvitnir grimaced as the Vulcan toppled over, crippled. He had hoped to claim the honor of First Blood for himself, but he had to respect a talented pilot when he saw one.
Looking over the building's edge to the next street, he confirmed that the Dalians who had been patrolling only moments ago had moved on, either around the long block towards the recently-ended skirmish or towards one of the other pockets of resistance breaking out around the city.
"The street is clear. We must go now."
Taking the stairs two at a time, Graaf hurried down the far side of the building, across the street, and around the next corner. This street wasn't so empty.
Sisgurd's workshop to the left seemed more or less untouched, but the KungsArme depot down the street and to the left was too valuable to be abandoned. A tall Clint battlemech stood outside beside a pair of light hovercraft, while Dalian infantry moved around it's base, loading boxes of ammunition, equipment and valuables into trucks to return to their dropship. There was some small comfort in that the mechbay's great sliding doors remained closed, it seemed they intended to clear out the building before finally taking the 'mechs inside.
Graff turned to Lina, "My 'Mech alone may not be enough. This range is too short for my LRMs to be effective, so our weaponry is similar, but while I have superior armor, he has jump jets, speed, and those hovercraft on his side. If I can distract them, you will have a chance to sneak into your own 'Mech and hit him from behind. You can get into the 'mechbay through the third story windows in back if you take the stairs up from the alley. The mechanics often take smoke breaks there, so the door will have been left unlocked.
Drac, keep your brother clear for now. Air support will force the Dalians to take cover within the depot, and we will not have the manpower to retake it.
First, let us go inside. We must speak to Sisgurd and prepare."
[[Break for conversation and planning, then I'll introduce my good friend Sisgurd, and my Dragon!]]

For future reference, can people minimize on reserving posts for their bits?
I don't get any notifications on post edits, and I can't read every post every time I get online to check.
So I may miss details from previous posts that I will need to know.
If there's a specific reason why such reservations are needed, that is still fine.

Luckily his hearing was returning to them and his was able to listen in on Graff's plan.
"Yo Graff, dis guy Sisgurd, will he's have something's I's can drive's on over to get my ride? I's think we' gonna need every mech we's can get our hands on."
"Or if your rides got a jumpseat I's can ride b***h."

[[Totally. I got up at 4am to take brother to work, then went to my job, came home and was gonna reply but kids were driving me up the wall so I went to bed. ended up putting it off till this morning. But I totally understand what you're saying. Should we put why we're reserving a spot but not writing anything? Or put a new post saying that we edited the one we had reserved?
