You are... yourself. You are given the option to start anew in the sci-fi universe of your choice and you take it.

Question 1: which universe would you set yourself in?
Question 2: what would your career be?
Question 3: where would you live mainly?

Important: many sci-fi universes have some kind of "end of XYZ as we know it" going on, so let's assume you didn't know about the Reapers/Flood/etc.

Spoiler

I choose Mass Effect for a couple reasons:
  • all species are interconnected to some degree, and humans are generally well-off and well-liked (Batarians and some racist Turians/Krogans aside)
  • spaceships are available to the general public, and a upper-middle class person could afford a Kowloon/Athabasca freighter or the like
  • nukes are outlawed from being used on homeworlds, and no ship-based weaponry exceeds 1 megaton, so a planet being slagged to oblivion is impossible
  • there are no "evil empires" big enough or crazy enough to be a large-scale threat and democracy rules most of the galaxy (the Geth/Rachni are pretty reclusive)
  • FTL-travel is quick and easy
  • Healthcare = Medigel, it is as simple as that
  • the lack of "super technologies" like replicators or transporters make it seem... more personal, y'know?
I would likely just live on my Kowloon-class freighter doing mostly legitimate and safe business to keep my crew happy and the food on the table.

It has yet to be proven definitively that this universe is fact and not fiction. This one will do fine for now.

Ive had similar discussions with my friends over the years. Usually comes down to STNG and SW post ROTJ. We usually snag on the problem if SW being much more interesting and organic while ST has ship comfort, hot ensigns in mini skirts, and holodecks. Seriously, if holodecks were ever to be invented and privately owned or rentable.... it would be the end of humanity because no one would ever want to leave their fantasy world they create in a holodeck.

For me.. SW post ROTJ with my own merchant ship and ports of call.

I would have done Stargate, but there wasn't the choice in the third poll that you can go and travel everything/everywhere. So, I chose BT because its awesome like that, and the clans need to be driven back by SOMEONE.

Well you know WH40K could be a place for you to live in (( No I am not insane )) if you choose Terra, and by could live in translates into you won't be killed by the aliens or heretics, not sure about the Inquistion or if you somehow was born a null and the Assassian temples noticed you or if you got drafted into the IG or if we got chosen as a space marine recruit for the Imperial Fists.......... You know just don't choose WH40K even BT mid-Jihad is safer for you.

I myself chose the Face of Mankind universe post marketing-wars, a scientist and living on a colony((Aurelia or Aquatica)). I mean I have cloning to make sure I don't die a useless death, free health care, the Vortex gates to reach any other colony or Earth in one step etc.

I refuse to answer this poll, on account that I simply cannot choose between Farscape, Mass Effect, Firefly and BattleTech.

That being said, however, I can answer the follow-up questions for each Verse.

Farscape - I'd be a Peacekeeper, no questions asked. Ridiculous military firepower, everything provided for you, and no-regret sexual freedoms? Sign me up.

Mass Effect - Definitely live on one of the smaller colonies, probably pull for some sort of Privateer crew. All the benefits of military life, without the government oversight.

Firefly - Might as well call me Mal. Get a decent ship, good crew, and take whatever jobs come our way. Screw you Alliance.

BattleTech - Sign up with the 1st Kestrel Grenadiers. Get myself assigned to an Enforcer. Introduce Capellan pilots to AC/10 pain.

I take Mass Effect. From all the others, only one which could be interesting is Wh 40k, but I would get killed instantly. ;)

Just about went with Star Wars over Stargate, Battlestar, Macross or Andromeda none of which got any votes yet oddly. Who the hell picked Warhammer 40K? That is just masochistic.

Spaceship would be preferd home assuming Firefly/Farscape/Andromeda style crew.

So it said to explain your carrier choice for "other", and I would have to say that the line between legitimate merchant and illegitimate merchant is a very, very fine line. So I would have to go with "arms dealer who doesn't discriminate". We don't care who your are, or where your from. If you have cash, or weapons, we can come to some sort of derangement.

Also I picked the Halo universe but I could do the same work in Star Wars, Battletech, Firefly, or my new favorite our solar system in Leviathan Wakes. If you haven't read it, you should its really good.

I chose BT, but I like SW and Farscape's universes also. Star Wars just because its Star Wars, dude I grew up with it. BattleTech seems more realistic than Farscape, plus the giant robots. ;)

No, Terra in 40k is a terrible place to live in. It is so incredibly polluted and crowded and 99% of its population live in beaurocratic slavery.

Star Wars was my first love, and it would be my first choice for a universe to live in.

That being said, I voted for Battlestar. Kind of like my current life, I'd easily be at home in an urban and urbane world as a civilian ;). And Caprica is a very scenic planet.

I'd be happy to take the Warhammer universe, on condition that I get to be a Space Wolf. Everyone dies--what matters is the story we leave behind ;).

STTNG seems most like the future I want the human race to have if we make it that long. I would be a civilian so I had less chance of getting embroiled in pointless miitary-political clashes.

Too depressing unless you have Mokoto, besides They all die except for Shinji and Asuka.
