simple answer: There is no pay to win in Mechwarrior Online.

Free players can buy all the same mechs, weapons, equipment as a player who is paying money; Paying players can get things easier and faster, but free players will get all the same content.

If you read the stickies (why can no-one ever read the stickies or FAQ?) PGI has stated loudly and often that they are massively opposed to any kind of Pay 2 Win and they will not use this to milk money from poor kids who want to be good at an internet game generate revenue.

But here, I see a "World of Mechs" incomming, with premium ammo, premium mechs, premium accounts, premium pilots... I foresee, that you will not able to play with certain things without premium acc, because the rep. costs (trololololol) or the ammo costs are too high...

When you say you "see" this coming, can you be even remotely specific about where you see this?

The developers have said over and over and over that nothing will be available for cash money that's not also available for cbills you earn in game other than two general categories:
1) Vanity stuff (e.g., skins)
2) Convenience (shorter grinds).

That's it. No golden ammo, no special mechs.

Feel better?

...after playing some matches trying out mechs, looking at the graphics, labmech, skilltree etc. there is one thing I really, really, worry about:

PAY 2 WIN...

+1 to Redshift2k5.

Where you have found a premium ammo? Yes it has premium mechs but they are use same ammo, same equipment as other, they just bring you some more money and exp and that's all.

Я вообще не пойму откуда ты взял что в мехах будут прем патроны и прем оружие? Из всей информации, написанную девами что я нашел, они не собираются делать что-то подобное. Если я не прав то пожалуйста ссылку в студию

It's a lot easier to make c-bills if you paid 30, 60, or 120. Way easier. I have almsot 300 million without even trying.

I think you should be careful here about insulting someone just because you feel they insulted you. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Or in this case, does nothing to resolve anyone's fears about a game they would really like to see as an enjoyable experience.

I have been playing for about 1 week now as I bought a Founders Package. I have been a Battletech fan since about 1995 and simply wanted to support the devs. However, as a player of WoT I understand this man's fears and I see where he gets them. Already, right off the bat you have the Founders Package. You must pay for it if you want the Founders Mechs, which you cannot get in game without paying real money. So there are already features you must pay for or forget about.

Secondly, I thought you could only buy additional mechs by paying real money. Please correct me if I am wrong but I see no method in the interface to buy an additional mech without paying more real cash?

Lastly, this game is BEAUTIFUL! Truly it is. Once there are more environmental factors added in, such as you actually knock down trees, as well as more mechs and weapons, so long as the devs stick to truly classic battletech rules and stats this game will be legendary among Battletech fans everywhere.

The founders mechs are versions of the weight class chassis. The same chassis are avaliable via in game currency.

This is simply not true. Any mech can be purchased with C-Bills. I mis-read that at first and thought you had typed additional mech slots. If you meant mech slots however, that is not pay to win. That would be pay to have. You do not need additional mech slots to win a match.

usual boring comment, read the game rules before posting?
You buy the items with C-bits, you can't buying These, only acquire in battle.

This is true. However, what you are describing is not pay to win. It is pay to have. You do not need additional mech slots to win a match.

Wow. You guys are on the ball with responding right away. Great Job.

1. I wasn't referring to mech slots. I have 4 available now but to purchase another mech to fill a slot I thought you needed MC. I was wrong, I just tried this and I was able to purchase one with C-Bills. Since C-Bills are a dime a dozen no problems there.

I don't think TL;DR means what you think it means.

Exactly how is this comment helpful. So many people, so negative, so much of the time. What is the point of that? You think you helped someone?

It would be much more helpful if you simply did not use the first sentence at all. Try to keep it positive and helpful, rather than insulting and negative.

Thank you fellow Mechwarriors for your quick and direct answers.

@Jost: Yes, my TD;DR start was bad. I apologize for that! I was driven mad by fear.

@Runz: I wanted to ask the whole community, but if I would have been a bit more sane, I should have investend the time.

@Luxx: I saw the same basic mechanic as WoT comming, but the style of the item menus and such.

@Xattabyich: I feared for something like that.

@Phii Phy Pho Phum: I posted my reaction on TL;DR in advance and yes, I was mad.

@Hinokami: Why do you even post in this thread, if it is not interresting to you?

I was mad, because when I see such an awesome game (basic) and then it gets ruined by money mechanics... I can't stand that any longer. In contrast to my real life behavior, I'm a crusader, when it comes to games, I advertise them like mad if they are fair and good and bug free, but I even upload vids about broken games, pointing out why they are really bad.

You must know one thing, I really WANT to like this, but I fear to be fooled by something. I'm a dedi. fan of the MW universe my whole life (27 Years old).

So, to summarize it what I have understood so far:

- Every item is buyable by C-Bills.
- There won't ever be any "premium" stats changing stuff that effects ingame balance.
- You don't have any advantage in battles of any kind if you invest rl money.

Is this all true?

My comment was by no means intended to be an insult. However, it's obvious that this person A) hasn't read the comments (or failed to grasp their understanding) what developers have already made abundantly clear regarding this issue, or ;) doesn't believe them. Either way, he's going to believe what he believes. Perception is reality afterall because there has be no indication from the developers (who have been really up-front about this topic) that would lead anyone to believe any of his perceived fears are intended for the game.

What we (the community who do know) can do is stop the fear-mongering that posts like this generate. The developers have TOLD us time and time again they are totally against pay to win - it won't happen! I honestly don't know what more he needs to hear, yet posts like this pop up at least 3 times a week.

Furthermore, his comments on the game thus far (in my eyes) is a violation of the NDA which was made explictly clear not to talk about in-game actions or events outside the beta forums. So what was his intent in posting it in the public forums, other then to rile up the masses and generate strife?

Edit: forgot a word.

I have no access to BETA forum, so I could not post it there.

I apologize for doing so, and fixed my post.

I do not want to harm the devs.

I just was mad, that a great thing could be broken.

Like someone else has mentioned, read the stickies, the Dev Blogs, and most importantly, use the search function. There you'll see how much time and effort you've wasted by creating yet another P2W thread. Also, ditch, the 'tude...unless you enjoy feeding the trolls and/or inciting flame wars.
