I think it is possible that what organization you belong to will affect how you are 'paid'.

For example a Merc would get higher payout per battle, higher win bonus, and lower salary but would have to cover his own costs in regards to repair. A House warrior on the other hand would get higher salary, lower pay out per battle, and lower win bonus and would have basic repair costs covered by the house. The net difference would be close to zero but it would play out differently for different style players.

I like this from a canon standpoint. In the game if you are a Liao unit, you don't get salvage, the Liao military gets it all. But as a merc you might get a percentage of salvage. Typically a higher payout of straight money means less salvage. So I would suspect it could easily be balanced that mercs get cash + salvage and pay repairs. House get cash but no salvage and don't pay repairs.

It wouldn't make sense for a warrior of a house to have to pay repairs. If you make it so that roughly the merc and house routes wind up cash neutral it allows people to choose their preferred play style.

Then if my play is such that I loose more often than I win I have to give up playing the game because I can't earn enough C-bills in game to actually repair my mech?
PGI have said that everything such as mechs etc can be purchased with in-game currency.

I doubt penalties from losing matches will be that severe. If I continuously lose, I won't be able to upgrade, but I'll still be able to reload and patch up the armor enough for the next battle. Don't forget that we still get XP, as well.
I would be very surprised if they forced us casual/bad/unlucky players to pump cash into the game just to stay afloat.

Like I said I figure that repairs will never cost more than the "contract pay," that's one reason to have "bonus pay" for winning/completing objectives. If your team wins, but you got destroyed part way through the battle you'll be able to repair your 'Mech with the contract fee and see your balance go up thanks to the victory bonus.

If you lose you'll be able to repair your 'Mech with the contract money, but you won't make a whole lot of profit unless you managed to stay alive by the time the other team completed their objectives (if that's even possible).

Also if you don't mind dropping some R-bills, I expect that you will be able to buy certain 'Mechs from the in game store. Rare 'Mechs that weren't seen a whole lot in the IS or were specific to certain houses/units. No in game advantage, but it mixes up the options.
