Here is what i am thinking. Since the game is probably being mainly geared towards muitiplayer, I doubt there will be any campaign in this game. Who agrees, who disagrees? Post your comments below! :)

There is no singleplayer and they may not even end up putting in PvE.

I think SinglePlayer is a waste of their resources. They need AI, scripting, voice acting, etc, etc, etc. Most people play a single player campaign and then go on MP to fight real people. Most MechWarriors are more online focused then offline, even MW2. I remember after I beat the game I would use instant action to test out a mech vs AI and then go online if it worked fine.

Yeah some people like the novelty of a SP, but the DEVs resources will be going to 100% MP functionality. It is better this way. Maybe in a few months or a year they will add in some PvE for those guys who are to shy to play a game online. But this is MechWarrior Online, I for one am glad they went this way. Your best bet is that MWO takes off and makes a hell of a lot of money. It would then prove to big name publishers they screwed up and that they should have accepted PGI's offer for a SP/MP game. If the game does really well and Mechs stay in the spot light then there is a good chance you will see a MW5, but as it stands most companies think MW a dead franchise and have no interest in trying to have a SP.

I'd rather them devote their resources and talent towards multiplayer.

I wouldn't be adverse to some kind of singleplayer aspect at some point, but if it's never developed it won't be a big deal to me.

As is usually the case - I agree 100% with CoffiNail.

MP only was the best decision made for this game. Maybe (we would be VERY lucky to get this) later down the line there could be some kind of modding scene introduced to allow players to build PvE experiences for each other to play... but that's not something I'd expect.

I think we all will be wearing ear-to-ear grins when screens/video start pouring out of GDC this week.

I'm not really sure you could do a free to play single player game/campaign, how would they make money off you? For MWO multiplayer is the only thing that makes sense.

You allow the players to do it, that's how it gets done.

Yes it won't be as good as the multi player aspects, but it creates a sense of investment and pride in the community (which = player retention).

If it were DLC, or capable of being hosted on individual servers (i.e. our own) then you can charge for it (although thats reaching into sketchy territory, unless it's clearly defined due to legal reasons or there's actual dev work needed, then I think it would be fine).

You're starting to step on MW:LL's toes a bit there however, which they may not want to do (unless you can restrict it to single player).

I know I've got CryEngine3 (freebie version) on a server ready and waiting, so hopefully we get some tools to muck around a bit and see what we can come up with.

Personally I would like to see PvE at some point. Just for a bit of a change, it would be good to do a few "Quests" with your unit. Hunt down some pirates or raid a Clan outpost for some tech... I guess I just like the RPG aspects of the Mechwarrior.

Hopefully one day once they have things up and running we will see this.

I hope sometime AFTER launch there will either be a PvE option or an instant action option to test variants before fighting real people. An AI can be a challenge if made right but i agree in making a good quality launch first and then add the bells and whisles later on.

Instant action would be good to at least get used to the controls, instead of jumping right into it and wasting a lot of time getting killed while you're trying to adjust your settings.

There could be some co-op options post launch. Kinda like combat arms where you drop in with 8 guys to settle some objective.

Then if you finished the mission, you get some sort of exclusive item with a short usage duration. But the main thing is, we need a proper tutorial !

Please don't. PvE would require rewards earned trough it, which subsequently would propably just create another -kill that mob for 5 hours over and over and over and over again for *insert useless object here*- grindfest like in other MMO´s.

In my opinion the devs time would be much better spend sticking to improving an engaging multiplayer experience.

In a similar thread I saw (think it was Garth) one of the DEVs say they would like to see a single player , but it wasnt on their plate right now.

I was thinking it would be a good way to segway into big changes , like skipping some empty time line in order to introduce new tech that dosnt come out till the future, or maybe the clan invasion???

You know what would be the best way to try and get single player in? Make MWO a cash cow so they could throw money at extra features. So get out there and spread the game by word of mouth. Most importantly, SPEND MONEY ON THIS GAME when it comes out and encourage others to do the same.

I would welcome single player. (Or even Lance, Company) PVE. It would be a good way to train. Can't say going against a remote beats going against the living gives you a fair assessment of your abilities or your Mech's sticky points. But "Ratting" would be a great addition to storyline mechanics. I don't see how they will make money off of it.
But for now, I'm pretty happy with team vs team. And can live without the RP aspects of the game.

I'd like to see a single player game, first it helps get people used to the controls and the difficulty level can be changed to get them used to the idea of what they might be facing online. Second, a single player game can be played without having to deal with nitwits and griefers (And there will be griefers, it is online after all). A single player game is not a bad thing, in fact, it might even be something they could take advantage of in the cash shop, selling chapters of single player like DLC.

That said, I am looking forwards to multiplayer, I /would/ like a Merc Company to have their own hangar/planet/facilities/dropship what have you so they can socialize, even if it's just a private lobby though avatar creation would be fun too. I know it wasn't all around popular in EVE but I think that's because they did this excellent avatar creation program, and then made it so we couldn't interract with others with that avatar. It was pointless in the end.

Just my thoughts.

And I /definitely/ think there should be some PvE scenario's so people can get used to working together like training sims.

They can always sell it as a content pack? It is F2P you know :) Other F2P mmos sell quest/content packs too.

But yeah, I'm not expecting a single player content. Not anytime soon at least, I don't think they ahve the manpower or resources for that.

Not necessary for a game with "online" in its name.

No single player. That's why we have retail PC games for.
