That's a good rule of thumb.
Also, variants can be added later, so just choose the chassis you most like.

so take the stats I posted for the mechs with a grain of salt as I have no real knowledge of what PGI is doing, just putting up numbers so people have a base to kind of guess what they are voting for

Cool, cool....
um, since this is a voting system, we're allowed to place an X in the box that says "Other" and write in a candidate right?

Quickdraw has some good variants, but the base variants are a little under-armored and under-gunned. good speed, jump jets for agility best for targeting/tracking down lighter mechs. Some of the later variants of the Quickdraw are much much better, and I love FD's version of it.
Lancelot is a good mech, but suffers in tight/rough terrain and has problems with heat build up if i wants to use 100% of its armament.
That leaves the Champion. Under Armored, no Jump jets, poor heat regulation, weapons that force it close to close range where its armor is going to get shredded, once again, champion has some good variants, the base variants are not among them.

its a poll, it doesn't mean anything, just gives us something to talk about while PGI gets ready to knock us sideways when they finally release info at GDC
this is a show the kids something shiny to stop the whining cause they are waiting for something, typical distraction tactics
hey kids lets play the XXXXXX game in the car during the six hour drive to Disneyland is a good example

I'm just trying to determine your favourite 'Mechs so I can make sure we never add them

The possibilities of this game finally coming to life, has me all "bouncing around in the back seat yelling "Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet?"
So yeah, its a distraction, but a welcome one.

I just hope you guys can implement the actual game so we don't see 12 atlases vs 12 atlases or so that only a handful of assaults will be on a map at a time.
but hey I am an optimist

Then I'd see a potential problem with the Champion here. Because the primary (and 3049) variant includes Star League Technology! There is no real 3025-Tech variant for it.

(Also, could you do me a solid and make the MLN-1B [Merlin Porter] a playable chassis? I will forever be in your debt )

So now that he says that, the Dragon better be a Grand Dragon and 97/kmh with a ER PPC, LRM 10, and 3 Med lasers. And my Banshee better have a Gauss & 2 PPCS =), sorry off topic.

the champion I listed is from the 3039 book and is non star league, there are starleague variants so I did not list them, believing that we wouldn't get advanced tech in a beginning mech

Lancelot is likely the most useful, especially the Star League 2750 version. But Merlin, the "swiss-army knife of 'Mechs", for sheer old school props!!!
(It was the example 'Mech they created for the original 'Mech Construction Rules nearly 30 years ago. They didn't create it with usefulness in mind, but ppl over three decades have made it so.)
