I'd like to get MC for this game but I'm reluctant to because it appears everything you can buy is disposable. Like it has been said I'd much rather pay to permanently unlock a colour/colour set then pay real money to make a single change that I might reverse and lose my money on. Same with mechs even, with the experience system the game forces you to buy and sell loads of mechs so I don't see any reason to pay $30 for a mech I'm going to sell for C-Bills anyway. I honestly think PGI would attract more MC buyers if people knew their money was a permanent investment in their account.

Yup I would use my excess MC for paints once in a while if I could keep them permanently. As of now I just save my leftover MC to use when a new Hero mech I want comes out, hopefully a Highlander

+1, I would spend MCs on some color schemes, made by me with combine of standart colors and schemes (somewhat vinyls), which I can stock permanently and then apply and switch to my mechs with CBill cost (like upgrades), since there's no way to spend CB on. Kiddie thing, I know, but want ;). For example.
Some nice visual cockpit items. I become jealous when I see that nice NVidia butterfly girl from time to time. :)

Something worth buying/paying for with MC's. Possibly even pay to Maintain with MC's...

I am not sure if "Company" support in coming in under social button or not, but if/when it does. Please consider Company barracks. A house of sorts that would load on our home page, or have a tab for, in the main window, that we could outfit and such. Decor would be like mechs some can be purchased with cbills and others with MC. There could be an armory where it would "show" all the weapons we have but are not on mechs, shoot you could attach the MechLab in a virtual sense ( no changes made there but allow us to see our mechs standing with whatever changes have been made in a station/bay being refuled and worked on). Not all of the indvidual mechs just the last one that person piloted.

As a fighting company we would want to upgrade our barracks inside and out, a bar, a gym, shoot expandfrom a barracks to a compound. This should also have the functionality of being a place we could comunicate with "whiteboard" of sorts, leave notes for other company members... Upgrade over all square footage to sizes like Company, Regiment, Brigade. So many options here... as a loose reference I would mention guild houses from DAOC back in day.

My 2 cents +

P.S. Not something I would pay for, but it sure would be nice. Being able to arrange my mech bays on my screen, so I could group my varriants together.

Sasuga echoes my sentiments exactly.

I started playing 3-4 weeks ago, ground out the extra money on top of the newbie c-bills for a dc atlas... aaaaand it looks like I won't be getting any more chassis any time soon. The current C-Bill accrual rate is painfully slow, even when using the TS servers to drop 4-man groups. $20 for one mech when I can get an older but good entire game for that much or a brand spanking new top-shelf game for $50-$60 just isn't feasible. I would like to spend some money on this game, maybe get a couple of other Atlas chassis so I can use the 90k xp I've racked up on my one DC so far, and maybe get a medium or heavy something for when I'm tired of being so slow. $5-10 is something almost anyone should be able to come up with every 2-3 weeks to spend on a mech.

Basically, right now for any new player there's this huge gulf of time from where he gets his first mech, caps all the tier one pilot abilities, and when he can get a second mech. This is especially painful if the new player ends up buying one of the more poorly configured mechs or discovers that medium mechs don't have enough armor for him to learn how to use his weapons effectively. The options become

1: grind out a crapton of C-Bills,

2: go buy a new chassis outright with real world money. Do you have $20 you're willing to basically lose if it turns out you don't like the chassis you bought? I bet a lot more people will take that risk for $5 than for $20. At $5 even if you hate it it's still worth it since you can find a configuration you can put up with and master the chassis so you can see if you like a different version of that mech.

3: stop playing since it's going to take way more time or money than you're willing to invest in exploring the different aspects of a game that involves you dying quite a lot and being on the bottom half of leaderboards most matches, since you're still learning how to move, fire, and coordinate with a bunch of other people using controls you're still getting the hang of. (This last bit was much more difficult before the netcode fix though)

Basically, with over 60 chassis already on the table and more on the way, and a skill system that requires people to unlock each tier of skills on three different chassis before moving on to the next, you should be pushing to increase the quantity of purchases. If I can buy one chassis a month for twelve months averaging $7 you've made over $80, which is more than I'd pay for a single software purchase and way more than the zero you'll make off me at $15-20 a chassis (Well.... if you introduce a Hero Executioner/Gladiator I might, MIGHT buy one at $20ish. But that's also dependent on how omnis, jump jets, clan heat sinks/ER weapon generation, community warfare, and the long-term support and balancing of the game work out)

And yes, if they stayed unlocked and I could switch back and forth, I'd be willing to spend $.50-$1.00 to get a particular color or camo pattern on my mech if I really liked it, or maybe $5-$10 there was a particularly awesome camo pattern and I could apply it to everything on my account. I would like to have a gigantic mechbay, and I actually think the price per mechbay is pretty reasonable.

I've played every Mechwarrior title since 2. I would like to support you guys. I plan on spending, over an extended period of time, a significant chunk of money on the game - more significant if my budget loosens up, but I still don't think that a non-hero assault chassis is worth more than $8.

Since the only benefit of a hero chassis can, and indeed should be in: cosmetics, a subtly different hardpoint selection, and a modest economic advantage that does not translate into a direct mech vs mech gameplay benefit i.e. "pay to win" I don't feel the hero status is worth more than a few extra bucks. That's not to say that you shouldn't put out a $70.00 sweet looking Atlas where the faceplate weeps blood, it has a bunch of four-foot crackling lightning rods on its shoulders and the individually rendered heads of Commandos hanging from its waist - you totally should. There should be some bona fide luxury "holycrap someone bought that" rides. And maybe that particular atlas can have the D-DC loadout plus one energy hardpoint in the CT. And maybe if you actually put that out or something similarly awesome I would find a way, such as a birthday, early christmas, unexpected bonus, hold neighbor's dog for ransom sort of thing, to buy it.

But for an "everyday" standard mech configuration? Half the fun of mechwarrior titles was trying out all the speed/weapon combos the various chassis had to offer- especially with the hardpoint limitations in MW4. If I'm going to invest at least as much or more than the retail price of a top-tier game (over time), I expect to have access to at least a large chunk of the standard mech roster (eventually).

Also I'm sure females, roleplayers, guys who really like boobs, and wow's "plate bikini transmog crowd" will all be willing to pay for a female pilot and customizable outfits.

Between the four (some of which are not mutually exclusive) you cover a large swath of the human population.

I'll tell you what I wont pay for.

Not anymore.

Premium time.

Why does premium time run out when you're not even playing the game?

Is the only way to get every minute of the premium time I paid for, to attempt to play mechwarrior online for 24 hours straight?

As fun as that sounds I have a life. 24h continuous gaming isnt possible.

So why then are hours of premium time that I paid for, being wasted simply because I could not dedicate a 24 hour block to take full advantage of them?

Why does Premium Time degrade on an hourly basis as opposed to an hourly basis WHILE LOGGED INTO THE GAME?!
I'm already paying you for MC, why not let me get my money's worth.

instead I'm basicly getting barely half of the time I pay for.
maybe three quarters but I do have to sleep sometime.

I have no problem buying MC credits, and putting money into the game, I love it and you deserve to be paid for it.

but make it fair. Otherwise I will not be spending another dime.

I will not spend money only for half of it to be wasted.

Please address this issue with premium time. I'd love to buy it as often as possible, but I'm only getting half of what I pay for, as its only possible to play so many hours in a 24 hour period.
if you're concerned with people actually playing it all the time, impose limits on how many times a month you can purchase premium time, don't just have the premium time clock ticking away while I'm not even online.

I consider that to be a kind of legal stealing.
strong words yes, but I take issue with wasted money and I didn't build a business by letting money slip through the cracks

you'll get more people buying MC if you make it fair, give them they're full money's worth. change the clock to only run while a person is logged in. Its just not worth it otherwise.

Thank you for your time and please keep up the great work.

now to unleash the trolls of war and let the powers that prowl the forums repeatedly tell me how wrong I am.

I guess some people like wasting money

THIS.

Since you at PGI refuse to re-add realistic (or any) repair/rearm, itemized salvage, or any kind of immersion other than the awesome graphics, give us a damned fine SP experience; even if it is just Mechwarrior 1-4 stories/scenarios with this games graphics/gameplay. I would pay dearly for such a game.

Or just make the MMO portion of the game more immersive and prepare to lose the care-bear-server-wanting, no-consequence-for-sucking-at-teamwork half of the community.

Either would be fine with me.

I would pay to get rid of ECM. Not a "competitive advantage cancelling out ECM" thing. No. Just rip it out of the game code entirely. That would be worth money to me.

Since MWO works well with mouse and keyboard, it would be funny to see a conversion of the cockpit into a mouse and keyboard for the pilot.

I would pay for anything that makes the game player friendly as such:

$10-75
- accurate BT/MW mech+weapon+abilities (like in paper)
- profile configuration server side to change password and account details
- profile configuration client backup ability for input layout (keyboard/mouse/joystick client side backup)
- game file integrity checking on pre-load
- map file integrity checking on pre-load
- game/ individual file repair button (instead of reinstalling everything)
- more advanced video settings (more hardware freedom)
- console
- faster patch server / torrent / multiple server hosts
- faster full installer server / torrent / multiple server hosts
- more maps per quarter
- more mechs per month/quarter
- community scheme matches with global point system for Clans/groups rep. Houses/Clans/Mercs

Additional:
- - -
$1-5 per Custom Skin Set (non-transferrable/permanent)
$1 per / color (x) # set areas (non-transferrable)
$1 per / cockpit toy (transferrable to different / same mech units)
$1 per / misc (transferrable to different / same mech units)

Will provide detailed info if needed.

When CW is implemented, I hope they will add the ability to customize your guilds "holdings". That would be a great way to spend money and not effect the balance.

saw this and imagined a series of exhaust pipes on the mech that shot out short jets of flame when you accelerated.

The ability to get an other color to my lasers and PPC shoots.
Hillarious you think ?
Why ?
Since weapons aren't all made in the same factory by the same producer there may be different Models of the same weapon class.
So lets show the golden fire of the Diverse Optics Sunbeam Large Laser, the silver hellfire of the Magna Hellstar Particle Cannon and the ruby glow of your Martel Medium Pulse Lasers !!!

Short answer, take a look at TF2. As far as I'm concerned TF2 has the payment model down perfectly without ever feeling truly unfair.

- Non of the weapons are payment only. Practically all weapons safe for alternate cosmetic versions of weapons can be found via drops as well as payment. The starting weapons are usually the best all round weapons to begin with and never become obsolete.
- Plenty of cosmetic items (hats, accessories, backpacks, you name it), I like cosmetics. I'm willing to shell out for especially fun ones.
- Strange weapons. Bog standard guns that track permanent kill tallies and assign titles based on total kill count were a stroke of genius.

Other than that, all kinds of cosmetics yes. Any kind of gameplay advantages no. That includes no faster xp or resource gain or any of the like. Yes to alternate cosmetic appearances for armor plates, guns, exhausts, cockpit glass, weapon sounds, non spammable radio taunts and so on.

The short of it is that if your game is fun, I'd be willing to invest in ways to keep varying my game presence. But a fun game can become pointless for me fast if there's all kinds of extra abilities and advantages to be bought. For one thing it quickly makes me feel like I have a crippled game and need to invest to keep playing a level playing field. Not a nice feeling.

What would get more of my money?

Solaris VII - free for all (bracket competitions)

I doubt I'll spend more until its here in fact, (sometime in the next year or more according to the Dev answers)
